After months of research for a convertible car seat, I decided on purchasing 2 of these Elite 80. I'm extremely happy with seat in just about every aspect. I needed a seat for my husband's full size Nissan Titan truck and my Toyota Prius. We were adamant that the seat must be installed in the center and we plan to keep our son rear facing as long as we can. Even with having to use the seat belt vs LATCH due to our vehicles not having center LATCH; the install was easy. The seat is on the larger side compared to other convertible seats, but we knew this before buying (we checked them out in person and tried it in our vehicles). My son used to get very sweaty in his infant carrier car seat but not in this seat. It is obviously not as convenient to strap in a baby while leaning into the vehicle versus putting him into his old infant seat while inside and standing over top of him, but it is fine. The bottom latch between the legs has 3 adjustments (2 for rf), the cover can be removed if need be, and I love the simplicity of the no rethread harness/head adjustment (just squeeze and lift up or down). It is very sturdy, well built and very comfortable for our son (8.5 months old, 75th percentile for height & weight).

I bought this car set when my son was just about to outgrow his infant car seat. Installation was straight forward. It is heavy but that is because of how well it is made. My son is a bit large so I decided to buy a larger seat. As my son is only 10 months old (but 24 lbs), I need to install this rear facing. I have a Honda Pilot and installed in the middle of the second row seating, it protruded almost into the front seat. We raised the incline a bit, but then it was so tall, I couldn't see over it if I turned around. Those things I could deal with for a safe seat, but then there were the straps. It could have just been the one I bought, but installed rear facing, it took every ounce of strength I had to tighten the straps. I checked to make sure nothing was twisted. We took the seat out and tried tightening and loosening the straps over and over and sometimes it would work as expected, and others it would just hang up and not budge. That to me was the deal breaker. I need to be assured I can get the straps tightened when my son is in the seat. Again, it could have just be a problem with the particular one I got, but it wasn't worth it to me to get the same one again...so back on the hunt for another seat. He's back in the infant seat for now.

So far I have only used the car seat rear facing bc my daughter is still small. But she seems to love it, and seems very comfortable in it! I know that this car seat is going to last us for years which really makes it worth the price! Installation is pretty simple as well. The only downfall is that the car seat is so big, so may not be great for a smaller car.

This carseat has to be one of the best investments thus far. Not only is it rated number 1 on numerous sites, but it also hasn't had any recalls. I love the option of being able to easily rotate my daughter upright or slightly reclined when shes ready for a little nap during car rides. I always get super uncomfortable with the idea that shes sleeping with her head right over her lap, so worries be gone. 2 cup holders are a must, one for snacks and the other for the bottle. Head Side impact guard adds the perfect most important touch. Its like her own mini car within our car, I love it! It is somewhat of a heavy lift but its durability and safety security definitely outweighs any heavy weight. :-) Definitely A Must Have :-)

Comments about S1 by Safety 1st Safety 1st 3-in-1 Elite Air 80 Convertible Car Seat - Elian:

My child is 6mo old (15#) and outgrowing her carrier so I switched her to a convertible. I selected this car seat after much research and visiting various retailers to compare. I like this car seat because It is sturdy, well built, comfortable feeling (lots if padding), easy to operate, can be rear and forward facing and will fit my baby from 5-100#, I will never have to buy another car seat for her! I also like that it has built in cup holders, adjustable headrest to adjust for the height of the child.
The only "con" I have for this seat is that it is fairly heavy but in the defense of the construction...it definaty is not built chinsey. And for this seat (among all convertible seats) they are stationery, it's a pain to take in and out of each car.
My child loves this seat, she's up higher, can see out the window and can see herself in the mirror.

Comments about S1 by Safety 1st Safety 1st 3-in-1 Elite Air 80 Convertible Car Seat - Elian:

Very sturdy carseat! This seat was installed in my husbands classic car (72 Oldsmobile Cutless)with seatbelts he had installed in the car. This was not easy to set up, but I'm betting that's because this car was never meant to have a car seat in it. Once it's in though, it is very secure and sturdy. Our son is very comfortable in it as well and he sure does have room to grow! It takes up a lot of room, but our son is on the large size, so we wanted him to be comfortable and we just didn't think that was possible in a narrower profile seat. I would have put this in my vehicle as well, but I wanted something a little more stylish and ended up installing a Chicco NextFit. I think the little one likes this seat better though...

Toke me two months to find him the perfect car seat and I did. He absolutely loves car rides now and he used to hate them. It's nice and big which is fine for us, he loves being able to sit up higher and see what's all going on. Would even recommend this to newborns. I would of gotten this in the beginning!

I bought this car seat because it looked safe, had plenty of cushion and had two cup holders that weren't just a plastic attachment on the side. I wasn't sure if it would fit in out tiny Acura TSX but it fit fine in the middle and even on one side if we move the passenger seat forward. Our 7 month old seems to like it. I has a couple removable cushions and since our child is on the chunky side we removed one of them. I was worried that since its black with some leather it would get hot but so far so good.

Comments about S1 by Safety 1st Safety 1st 3-in-1 Elite Air 80 Convertible Car Seat - Elian:

When researching convertible car seats, I kept coming back to this seat. My husband picked it out in the store while browsing because it "looked" the safest, and when I watched the crash test videos I was sold. Looking online for reviews and such, it seemed like many recommended this seat as long as you have a vehicle big enough for the bulk of it. Since I don't particularly have a large vehicle (mid size sedan), I wanted to keep my options open and looked at more compact seats as well. But I just kept coming back to this one. I also loved that we won't have to rethread the harness with each big growth spurt! So that's what we went with.
The seat is big, but seems comfy enough for my 8 month old who doesn't cry when I buckle her in (I guess that means she approves). The sides, when in appropriate recline for her size, are pretty high, so I have to really lift her over them. It's not a problem at all. The cupholders will come in handy once she's more coordinated with her sippy.
The only "con" I can see with this seat is the size front to back. I can see how it wouldn't fit well in a small car. My Malibu fits it just fine though, when it's in the center and the seats aren't completely back.
The seat gives my peace of mind that my daughter is safe in the event of an accident, plus it's nice that she doesn't cry the entire car ride like she did in her infant bucket seat.
