To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen by combining the Danish words "Leg Got" that means "play well". The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children around the world, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. LEGO innovation continues to this day with product lines like DUPLO that was created in 1969 for smaller hands and still thrives. Movie tie-ins, such as LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones Adventures and LEGO SpongeBob are some of the most popular sets.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

The Death Star Lego is one of the best Lego sets ever built: having incredible details! I would recommend this for more experienced Lego builders because there is a lot of tricky building. I love how the Death Star is so functional. My son can see making lots of stop motion movies to show his friends and with his friends! I really wish it had electrical components to add to the excitement. Although his set didn't come with the correct screwdriver piece, he believes he may have lucked out and gotten a prototype that hasn't even been released yet!

Exceded Expectations!

By Soundslikeg

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

WOW! I have wanted this set for years, but was hesitant because of the pricing, but I received a few gift certificates and decided to go for it! The first thing that caught my attention is that it is packaged in 4 individual boxes inside, so its easy to split up into 4 unique builds if you have time constraints on building a nearly 4000 piece set. The second was the HUGE instruction booklet. Being such a large build, the instruction booklet's design and intricate drawings of each step make it simple for even a beginner to build, for the advanced builder you might get annoyed at the size (250 pages coil bound) of the booklet and having to flip it over after adding just a few pieces to the set at a time. For a younger or family build, it is perfect! The minifig collection that comes with the set is HUGE and even adding in the "minifig" imperial ship and docking station....it is crazy! The detailing in the set is incredible, just as you would expect from a top of the line Lego set, but I remember myself legit saying "wow" as I finished multiple areas of the DS and seeing the thought they put into it. The set is definitely worth having for anyone who is a fan of the Star Wars Lego brand, I promise you will NOT be disappointed. Your biggest problem will be where to display the DS without your significant other threatening to move out! hahaha. Enjoy the build everyone!

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I have had the Death Star II, kit 10143 for quite some time and have wanted this kit forever. I got to pick it up @ downtown disney. I took me about a ten hours to build it. I had no trouble. It is all that it seems and then some. My only complaint is that at the price, lego could have added more of the imperial troopers that it comes with and others that are not included. The kids are about to die to play with it.

SOOO COOL

By LegoStarWarsFan6212

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

This set is epic!!! It is 16' wide and 16" tall (it is one cm. wider), on the bottom floor, which I call floor 1, there are some barrels an some tanks (IDK) what for. Going up a floor there is the trash compactor, which has a mechanism above it that controls the doors. Next there is the tractor beam generator that can be deactivated by pulling the middle lever out. Next there is the bottomless pit that Luke and Leia swing across, also there are two platforms for the stormtroopers to stand and shoot on. Next there is a utility room that has a crane and one of two elevators. Going up a floor there is the tie dock where there is Darth Vader's TIE Advanced. DV can fit into the cockpit, though it is a mini model. It also has an opening door that leads to a superlaser area that has a control room towards the door. The door opens thanks to TECHNIC pieces and the brilliant mind of the designer. Next is the prison cell that holds Leia. On the side there is a door that can open and the minifig in the jail can be removed. Then across the hall, there is the opening door that leads to where else the TRASH COMPACTOR! Then above the room is a camera. OH I ALMOST FORGOT ON THE SECOND FLOOR THERE IS A MINI PROTON CANNON. Next to the prison cell is the Emperor's throne room with a collapsing platform and a place to throw the Emperor down. The Emperor has a rotating chair. Going up to the last level, you have the turbo laser turrets. The mechanism that controls the movement of the turrets is above the Emperor's throne room. The turrets also move up and down. Next is the imperial meeting room, there are seven chairs that swivel and a table that can be removed to store weapons. Next is where all the action happens, the super laser control room. It has two control computers, one in which moves with the laser firing dish. The super laser firing dish can move left and right and up and down, again thanks to the TECHNIC pieces and the brilliant mind of the designer (or designers). Last but not least, there is the droid repair room it has a operating table for a droid to go on then underneath it is the mechanism that controls the Hook that holds the TIE fighter. The droid repair room has a bunch of tools and a desk with chair. It also has the two helmets for han and luke. Which reminds me I haven't talked about the minifigs 25 to be exact. They are: HAN stormtrooper disguise, Luke stromtrooper disguise, Ben Kenobi, R2-D2, C-3po, Death Star Droid, a white assassin droid, Darth Vader, The Emperor, Grand Moff Tarkin, two death star guards, two stormtroopers, two imperial guards, Luke jedi knight, Luke in his Tatoonie outfit, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Han Solo in his regular outfit, a mouse droid, an imperial interrogator droid, and last but not least Dianoga. To end there is an elevator that runs through the entire set!! Yes the Death Star is hollow. OVERALL OUTSTANDIN SET!!!!!!! MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

This is a great product... It was a great build. There are lots of amazing contraptions and about 20 minifigures. Its huge and the laser is pretty cool but quite fragile (i recommend using superglue.) There is a mini TIE fighter to show the size. I have gotten many good comments and it was probably one of the best Christmas presents I have ever gotten. I love it so much i just got the UC Super Star Fighter.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

One of the must have Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collectors series sets. Due to the price this set isn't for everyone, but if given the opportunity this is a must buy. Set is truly incredible not only in size, but also in detail. Every room lego has hit the nail on the head with and included the appropriate Minifigs as well.

Outstanding

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

Heck, I'm not even a fan of Star Wars. Not that I dislike the theme, but I can take it or leave it. But, this set transcends merely being a Star Wars set. It is the definitive a lego product. I had to have it after I picked up the box in the store and it weighed a ton. Seriously, it's challenging with a huge piece count. A lot of thought went into it and the execution is spectacular. If you have an extra $399 laying around, it's worth every penny.

I'm glad I don't have an X-Wing.

By Helios

from Cloud

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I'm sure most people will understand my joke above, if not then I'd really consider whether the Death Star is for you. If you're not that interested in Star Wars, firstly, go away. Secondly, once near a DVD shop, purchase Star Wars. Now the non-star wars fans have gone, I will begin my review... I'll start by saying a jolly good well done to the Lego company, what you have created here is that of pure genius. I say this because it is one of the best Lego sets I have been given for Christmas - thanks Nan! It took the best of a week to construct this lethiathan but it was worth it. There are so many features hidden inside which are incredibly detailed and accurate to the movies. I particularly love the minifigures included ( 24 may I add!). My personal favourite is Grand Moff Tarkin, but I also love the Emperor's lightning. Another notable feature is that Darth Vader can easily fit inside his TIE advanced. It's a shame that there is no smale scale X-wing to accompany it, but I suppose if they did that I'd have to keep rebuilding the Death Star. An issue I did see in the 'minifigure' department was the small amount of stormtroopers and Imperial officers. I would of happily sacrificed the Assassin droid or stormtrooper Luke and Han for the Imperial commanders to gather in the conference room. Then again, the set wouldn't be complete without them. Minifigures are something collector's love and in my opinion, the Death Star is a gold mine. Despite this being one of the biggest Lego star wars sets there are, building it was fairly simple. There are some fiddly parts where string is involved, but this only adds to the fun of it. My father did say "Isn't it just a load of grey bricks." To this, I only realised that 'a load of grey bricks' can form something absolutely amazing! It was pointed out to me that this set is essentially an Intergalactic doll's house... you know, with a gigantic death ray. Realising this, I turned to the 'Internets' to search for the more exterior realistic 'Death Star II'. In my opinion, not that that anyone should really make a note of it anyway, I feel that this version is more interesting in terms of features. Moving on, I noticed that the lower compartments are pretty dark as they are shadowed by the top. Now I love crushing Wookiees in a tiny trash compactor as much as the next man, but I'd like to be able see it suffer...I mean escape, without straining my eyes ( For the record, I have nothing against Wookiees). I feel that some light is required down there in order for the playability to be top standard, but still, GREAT set! To finish this review ( sorry, I've just realised how long this has turned out. If you have carried on reading, thank you. I guess I drag on a bit because I have few people to talk to, mainly because I tend to lock myself away and play with my Death Star-Oh, I'm doing it again),I'd like to mention the price. To be fair it is a bit costly and I'm glad I wasn't the one who bought it -again, thanks Nan! £275 is a bit much for the set, maybe £100 or around there would be more reasonable, but still, Awesome set! Overall, I'd say that this is for a really big Lego Star Wars fan (A.K.A. Awesome people) and if you were to come by this set cheaper than it is, buy it! For the love of the maker, buy it! I think the best part of the Death Star is the fact that I can say: "You know what? I'm just gonna fly casually over to my Death Star. Yeah. Death Star, you heard me. What do you own that's capable of blowing up a planet - in my imagination?" So, if you survived this essay of a review, I'd say, go buy that Death Star. But, "Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed." A review from Admiral Awesome. "Woo, you're amazing!"

Very enjoyable

By Steve42

from Manchester

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I found this model fairly challenging and enjoyable to build. It comes in numbered bags so you don't have to sift through too many pieces. The instruction manual is massive, very good quality and accurate to use. The pieces are varied and the build is not at all repetitive and the finished model is quite good to look at with some playability (if you're young enough to bother with that sort of thing!). On the minus side, it's a bit expensive for the amount of time needed to build - should probably be about 50 quid cheaper but I guess that's what you literally pay for with franchises. Overall I would recommend this model especially if you can get it a bit cheaper (good luck with that one!).
