With nowhere to turn, the Rebels hop through the secret garbage chute. Events quickly take a turn for the worse when Luke is pulled underwater by a Dianoga monster and then the trash compactor walls close in.

I have you now

Vader's TIE Advanced x1 docks in the hangar bay on the moving launch rack. Prepare to stop the Rebels on their attack run.

To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen by combining the Danish words "Leg Got" that means "play well". The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children around the world, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. LEGO innovation continues to this day with product lines like DUPLO that was created in 1969 for smaller hands and still thrives. Movie tie-ins, such as LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones Adventures and LEGO SpongeBob are some of the most popular sets.

This is the first LEGO kit I have bought in perhaps 20 years. I have huge boxes of LEGO and Technics to sort out at my parents house one day. I was really looking forward to building this model but I'm towards the end of bag set 5 out of 7 and I keep coming across missing pieces. First I thought it was me, not having used LEGO for many years, but even with careful organisation of the pieces and opening bags 1 first, 2 and then so on.... I'm still finding a lot of pieces not supplied. This is hugely disappointing as now the project is essentially on 'hold' until the pieces are supplied by LEGO. However, I now see a message saying missing pieces won't be supplied until end of January. I can understand longer times around Christmas but this seems ludicrous and I have not come across this problem with any other retailer. The model itself looks great and I'm sure will be a lot of fun when finished but I suspect that will be some time in February. Overall: would be great but at the moment poor and incomplete thanks to multiple missing pieces. For such an expensive product I would have expected better.

The set first was on ...

By BnBReviews

from Los Angeles

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

The set first was on shelves back in 2008. Ever since then, I have always wanted it. 7 years later, it managed to pull out this long along with me, and I finally had the opportunity to get it. The set is amazing with great detail on the interior but lack on the exterior. The interior makes it special because each room is accessible by either going through the one prior or by using the elevator. Unlike other sets where you have to imagine that they magically got up there. The set is HUGE and just by opening Box 1, you already have at least 800 pieces dumped in front of you, and you think to yourself that there is still 3 more boxes! The figures, although older, are great with the set (old figures rock!) and enables you to recreate iconic scenes from the film. The set is a great model to be displayed even though it is a model meant to be played with. As you begin from bottom up, the levels just keep on getting better and better and even more challenging. To add on to the challenge of building 3.8k pieces, the dark grey and black was tough at times to differentiate in the instruction book. After all the hard work the rooms are great and is amazing how the design team was able to fit all the scenes in and have them connect flawlessly. Some rooms are from different films (episode 4 or 6) yet are well incorporated. The set with the new battle packs from a year ago (Death Star Troopers) go hand-in-hand with this, and over the years I was fortunate to have collected several imperial troopers to add-on to the set.

First, set aside a real ...

By rescuec

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

First, set aside a real long time span. . Second, have a good amount of space for it. this thing is huge It also can't hurt to have a helper presort the pieces with you. With that out of the way, it wasn't a hard built, parts of it were difficult to figure out until later in the build and you see what they were for. A lot of thought went into the details of this thing I thought, things like making the instruction book into one volume that is spiral bound, adding junk pieces for the trash compactor, an elevator platform and a tie fighter are just a few of the details that make or break something. I bought this thing and it took about a few months ( of course I did it as time permitted) Hats off to the cad operators who drew the diagrams, that has to be a hard job. All in all, this is something that will take some time and some careful thought, but if you like big builds this is worth it

Fun to build, and to play with

By phillymetal

from Kirkland

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

This is definitely the best playable Star Wars lego set. With so many recreatable scenes from the movies. The final product is well built, sturdy and is easy to move around. The biggest flaw is the instructions. The colors are hard to distinguish, especially between dark grey and black. But, overall, I really enjoyed building it.

Massive model

By vibaek78

from Malmö

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

I am danish, but live in Sweden. 2 weeks ago, I planned a visit to the Lego Store in Copenhagen, Denmark. I wanted to buy the new amazing Tie Fighter (75095) model released the very same day (May 2nd 2015). This will be my 3rd addition to my new and expensive hobby - Awesome Lego Star Wars models. With the Tie Fighter under my arm, my lovely wife came to me and insisted that we also bought the Death Star (She's quite into Sci-fi too). Even though it is a quite expensive model, I am weak and it did not take long before I was convinced that it was a good idea :-D The Death Star is a rare model in the regular shops. That is why I have not tried to hold 'n' carry the box. It is quite heavy. We were going home by train and it definitely attracted attention. After I had assembled my Tie (love it by the way) I started up with the Death star. The box it self contained 4 white neutral boxes numbered 1 through 4. The instructions... Not only is the model massive. So is the instructions. A big 264 paged A3 manual with rings (quite handy when the instructions are so big).. A funny detail... On every other side, Lord Vader is supervising the construction of the Death Star. Makes you pay more attention to the instructions. No one wants to displease the Sith lord. Box 1... This box contains the mini figs and the base construction. The instructions starts with the assembly of the mini figs. The only thing that annoyed me here, was the fact that the parts for the mini figs wasn't put in one or two separate bags. The parts was spread evenly throughout all the bags. This meant that I had to open all bags at once instead of opening one at a time as the assembly progressed. Advise! You need a lot of space when you build the death star. I occupied the table where we eat, so eating was referred to the coffee table. Because most of the sunday was used on the assembly of my Tie Fighter, I stopped after Box 1 of the Death Star. Already then I realised that I would get a problem when it was done. Where to put this beauty! It is big, and it is fragile. Next weekend is up... Time to continue with box 2 through 4. Back to the occupied dinner table :-D It is quite enjoyable assembling the Death Star because of the many little details that LEGO has put into this model. This brings up a lot of memories from this awesome universe that we all grew up with. I had only one problem during the assembly. When it came to the big disc that is the eye of the Death Star ray, brick was missing (4124096). ARGH!! Did I drop it on the floor? No.. Did I leave it in one of the many bags labeled 6? No.. Luckily the important brick was part of a maintenance wagon from bag no1. This wagon is less important and I stole the part from the wagon to be able to continue. I realised that bag no6 contained a brick (4558168) that did not belong to the Death Star set at all. Luckily LEGO has a great customer service where I reported the one missing brick. I have already received a confirmation mail, that it should be on its way by snail mail soon. Several hours later I finished up the Death Star. Finishing up the masterpiece by adding the minifigs where they fit in. Then it was time for a photoshoot to show the social world what a nerdy friend they have :-D The Death Star now adorns the living room along with my Red Five X-wing Starfighter (10240), My B-Wing Starfighter (10227 - Retired) and my new Tie Fighter (75095)

Great Set

By ggtube

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

This set is pretty good because it's mostly accurate to the movie and it has a lot of playability and is really big (which is cool). But the bad things are that you need to get figures from other sets to fill up all the rooms accurately, also, if someone wants to play with it on your floor you really have to lean down for the bottom floors so you should play with it on a table :(. Other than that it's pretty good. P.S I have some troubles with the blaster cannons so that's something to look forward to:(.

Gem of any Star Wars collection

By BigLegoFamily

from Honey Brook

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (10188):

This huge (16.5 diameter) piece is the center of any Star Wars collection. Tons of minifigures (but we're adding more), great detail, plenty of play-ability and simply an awesome piece. Some other reviewers complained of missing pieces but we did not have that issue. Tons of little extra parts left over. If I had any concerns it would be that it can be hard to differentiate between dark gray and black on many of the pages of instructions. We made a few mistakes and had to backtrack a bit to swap out pieces. Also, it would have been nice if the numbered bags were broken down into smaller sets. Sometimes it says to open bag 5 which is actually 6 or 7 individual large bags. Makes it a bit more challenging to find parts, takes up a lot of room on a table, and, unless you like leaving loose parts out requires you to finish a few hundred pieces before stopping for a break. These are minor points and would not stop me from recommending this set to anyone.
