Games and Activities
One thing I want to point out that makes this mommy super excited is that the all the games we have for the Explorer can be used in the LeapPad. This hasn't been the case in the past with other LeapFrog products so this is an awesome addition! Especially since he still grabs for his Leapster Explorer as well!

LeapPad is the first kid's tablet with built-in camera, video recorder, microphone and available Animation Studio, allowing for creative exploration that can also be shared with family and friends.

What Games Come With Your Purchase?

LeapPad camera and Video Recorder: The LeapPad's built-in camera and video recorder lets kids capture a moment and make it their own. Kids can take pictures and add fun effects-smudge, stamp, stretch, swirl and more-or use the video recorder to shoot video, complete with sound. In three mini movies, LeapFrog's LeapSchool character and avid photographer, Bug, offers tips on taking pictures and shooting video to help budding photographers hone their skills. Pictures can be stored on the LeapPad or uploaded to your computer. Being 2 GB the LeapPad can hold up to 30,000 pictures or 120 minutes of video. It has a countdown timer to take self-portraits and you can edit your photos with approximately 10 different tools.

Story Studio-All About Me: Part of the innovation of LeapPad is the way it's build to share components across apps. The artwork, photos, writing and recordings kids create all culminate int he Story Studio experience. In the Story Studio, kids create their own book about themselves that can be uploaded to view in LeapFrog Connect or shared with family and friends via Facebook or email.

Art Studio: Create masterpieces in the Art Studio using a variety of essential and fun art tools, including stamps, shapes, the pattern brush, paint brush, pencil, eraser, and zoom tool. Upload artwork to computer via LeapFrog Connect or use it in the All About me Book.

My Stuff: The included My Stuff gallery is where kids can view their various creative works including photos, videos, artworks, and stories. This is also where kids can delete files and view how much space they have to store their work on the device.

Pet Pad: Create a pet to play with and love! Learn to draw letters while teaching your customized pet tricks. Keep your pet healthy and clean with feeding and washing activities. The pet is a great companion-even following a kid into the home menu on the Leappad, where kids can continue with fun by tilting the device side to side or upside down to move their pet. New features on the LeapPad is using the microphone to blow dry your pet, shaking the device to get your pet moving in Flingo and tilting your device from side to side to see your pet slide around.

To Buy or Not To Buy?
With my personal opinion I say purchase it. My four year old got his first Leapster when he was two and has enjoyed it since. He got the Leapster Explorer at the age of three and now the LeapPad. I really feel that the educational aspect of these games have really helped him when it comes to school. We as parents know they are learning but they think they are only playing a game. Even through my four year old has a Nintendo DS, he still reaches for the LeapPad or Leapster2 over that. So that I find very impressive!

am EXTREMELY disappointed in the LeapPad Explorer. I have always been skeptical about any of these gaming devices, but now that my two boys are getting older (ages 3 and 5), I decided to at least look into the idea of buying something like this for Christmas. Well after a trip to Toys R Us right before Christmas, I guess I got caught up in an impulse buy, and I bought it. We set it up, got it all ready to go, and it was a gift from Santa. Perfect right? Not so much. Now, about a month later, I realize what a HUGE mistake it was. First of all, it takes batteries. I knew this going into it, but had NO IDEA how problematic that would be, not to mention EXPENSIVE!! We are CONSTANTLY replacing the batteries. And every time we do, we get no more than 2-3 hours of playtime and the batteries are dead again. So, we bought the ac adapter thinking that would solve the problem. Well, my kids don't do well sitting in a corner of the room close to a plug (because the cord is not very long), and every time it comes unplugged, its dead again. So we also invested in the car adapter, which is also a very short cord that comes unplugged all the time, and is very frustrating to my children. Not only that, each game is $24.99. Are you kidding me? The case was also a hefty $24 which was not included.Someone mentioned getting rechargeable batteries, and you can have a back-up set charging at all times so you never run out. But we all know rechargeable batteries last about half the time of regular batteries, so I would be changing batteries non-stop, which i feel like am already doing. And because it is dead pretty much always, my children have never really played it long enough to really get into it or enjoy it. So its usually just sitting around, with not much interest. If it were to disappear today, I don't think either of my children would even notice.A friend told me the leapster she bought for her son came with a charging station. What a genius concept they must have totally looked over when creating the LeapPad explorer. With all the money we have already spent, we could be halfway towards an iPad. So, now, only 1 month in, we are looking into de-activating our account and selling it on [@]. Then we are going to save up to buy the iPad. Games are no more than $5 each, and thats for the really good ones. And the biggest bonus of all, you can CHARGE IT!!! A much better investment than this silly explorer that is nothing more than a headache and a money pit in my opinion.SOOO disappointed!!!

Comments about LeapFrog LeapPad1 Explorer Learning Tablet - Green:

The LeapPad itself is great. The problem lies in the cartridges. Besides the cost of them (which is way too high), they don't work. After using the LeapPad a hand full of times, the cartridges don't work. I called customer service twice and their idea of helping me was to email me repair instructions (that didn't work). So, if you should choose to purchase any of the LeapPads, I would strongly recommend getting downloadable versions of games, as the cartridges are really pretty useless.

Comments about LeapFrog LeapPad1 Explorer Learning Tablet - Green:

Although I do a lot of research & read reviews before making purchases this seemed like a great product so it went on the Christmas wish list last year. I can only say - purchase the warranty if you purchase this. In less than a year we have had to return this for repair 3x. Make sure you keep original receipt as most stores tell u to honor the warranty ( you pay extra for...) you have to have the original receipt. This is kept in a case & carried in a leappad case & very gently used under supervision. 3x it has just stopped working. Nothing. Than the cord to plug into the wall stopped charging. We replaced cord. The second cord actually just fell apart with wires exposed. I only replaced the cord the 3rd time because my son was so upset. After receiving 4 new games for Christmas he was excited to play his leappad again. (He stopped after complications with 1 thing or another- ) so excited he put his new game in- after playing for awhile he decided to play some of the games already in his leappad. The screen turns black than blue & shuts down no matter what he touches... For the cost of games, leappad itself, hassle of returns, waiting for repairs, accessory replacements... It would have been more cost effective to purchase a tablet such as ipad that would grow with him, learning apps are free to just very reasonable & if he doesn't like 1- we delete. Better than a $20-50 game that he doesn't play & you are now stuck with. The concept is great but this product & coordinating products are cheaply made & break constantly. My other advice would be instead of $40-50 for a battteries & a charger that says leappad get the plug in energizer recharger with batteries for $9. it does the same thing. just something to think about! :>) good luck!

Comments about LeapFrog LeapPad1 Explorer Learning Tablet - Green:

So I bought this for my 4 year old daughter as her "big gift" from Santa. She loved it! Put the batteries in and she and my 2 year old played until the batteries died, which unfortunately, was just a few hours later. Then it just kind of lost it's mind. The touch screen was no longer a touch screen, it would freeze up, it was just an all around pain in the neck really. My kids would throw a fit because they would be in the middle of a game and it would freeze, or the "touch screen" wouldn't acknowledge what they were doing. And then it started to not turn on, randomly. It was hit or miss with it. They loved the games it came with and when it worked and the batteries weren't dead, they played with it. But since it has SO MANY problems, and you go through batteries like they are going out of style, it wasn't often they got to play it. Bottom line, it's not worth the money for the amount of problems it has.

Comments about LeapFrog LeapPad1 Explorer Learning Tablet - Green:

The leappad is great fun while it lasts. Which apparently is not very long. We took great care of ours and it lasted 18 months..... died 6 months after the warranty ended, of course. It turns on for a second or two, then just shuts off (does this with both new batteries and the wall charger) Buyer beware

Got this for my 5 year old expecting it to keep her busy with something that is educational. And while it does have some fun games, the hassle of loading it onto my laptop in order to receive her "points," which by the way are NEEDED in order to play some of the games, was absolutely unwanted. It's basically useless unless you have the time of day to wait for it to load components every day, which I don't. It now sits in her toy closet, unused.

The amount of time my daughter spends on this, I will have to buy a set of 12 batteries per week!
then the price of new and awesome games, one game is over $25 dollars! I am sorry to say I regret this thing, and the most frustrating is that it is NOT RECHARGEABLE!
I bought an i**d and I have spent more time on it and all three of my kids, including my 3 yr old, and it is everything i was looking for, and I have spent HARDLY ANYTHING on games. I HAVE OVER 100 APPS AND WE PLAY THEM ALL THE TIME. I should have bought my three yr old a mini i**d. It has better warranty, battery life and FREE GAMES THAT CAN GROW WITH HER, AND HER SIBLINGS.

Great product for the little ones. I don't quite feel that a 3-5 year old is ready for a Ipad, so this was the next choice and it was a great one. It's well worth the money and provides a lot of learning tools through apps, books, and videos... my little ones can be entertained for hours especially when driving and be learning while they are doing it!
