I was intimidated by this product at first, but my kids were excited. It wasn't long before I joined in their excitement. IDO3D was a lot of fun, and the ink "cured" much faster than I thought it would when we used the spotlight on it as we went instead of waiting until we finished the product. The ink had a bit of an odor to it, but it wasn't something we couldn't overlook. My daughters, ages 10 and 12, each made a flower necklace, and I made the flower pot. We made memories doing these projects that we'll remember for years to come.

This was the #1 toy my child wanted for Christmas. He wrote Santa, Grandparents and told his parent this was what he REALLY wanted. He is an artistic kid and loves to create. We bought him the largest kit. It came within a large box but it could have come in a much smaller box as half the box was empty. It only included 5 pens filled with "goo", a UV flashlight, plastic to "write on" and a book with just a few projects to trace. You basically trace the projects in the book with these pens filled with "goo". The "goo" hardens when you shine the UV flashlight on it. Ideally that is what is suppose to happen.

The book was disappointing as the box is covered in drawing that were not included in the book. After drawing with the pen the goo will start to spread out if you don't shine the UV light to harden it. But the tiny UV flashlight could not possibly work for the amount of drawing you do for a project. On our first project it took 10 mins of shining the light for it to harden. We ran through so MANY batteries! When we started the second project it was as if the light didn't work anymore? The "goo" never hardened! I left it in the sunlight all afternoon hoping that would work and it did a little. The lines my little artist had so carefully drawn had flattened into a pool because the "goo" didn't harden in time. I can't tell you how disappointed I felt as a parent knowing this product was completely not living up to it's fantastic marketing. The commercials show these amazing things you can make. My child kept trying to draw and make these projects, he spent a whole afternoon drawing the train project but we couldn't get the "goo" to harden.
I strongly feel Toys R Us should pull this toy off their shelves as it wasn't fully tested before releasing it to the public. It does not do as promised. It was a complete box of garbage! I wish I could return it but being Christmas I had recycled the box and didn't think they would take it back without it.

The goo takes forever to dry with the flashlight they give you. My fingers still hurt from trying to squeeze the little product that was in the doodle pens. Don't waste your money on this!!!

Comments about Redwood Ventures IDO3D 25 Piece 3D Printing Studio with 5 Pens:

Received this as a gift. If you have patience to complete it, it can be pretty cool. However I wouldn't suggest it for anyone that isn't able to sit for over an hour to complete one design. It doesn't come with batteries for a small UV flashlight that "dries" the gooey sticky "glue" material. Our 5 yr old and 8 yr old lost interest pretty quick, which left me and family members taking turns holding a small flashlight on to the material to dry. You dry each part separately, so it isn't like you just shine the light on the whole project, you need to shine the light right up to a small bit of the material until it hardens and then proceed to the next bit until it hardens. It will not dry without being exposed to the light. Glad this was a gift because I wouldn't spend my money on it. Maybe teens would enjoy better and have more patience to complete?

My 7-year old daughter was very excited to receive this kit, and quickly went to make her first creation. It was difficult for her to squeeze the gel out of the pens (since they don't have much in them to begin with) so whenever using a new pen I had to get it to start for her. Then, the gel is very clear and kind of spreads out, so I'm wondering if we need to apply more layers to thicken up the lines, otherwise I'm thinking her creations will be very flimsy. I think she enjoyes playing with it, but I'm not sure if I would buy this again...

My kiddos got 3 sets for Christmas gifts. The 'plastic' is actually a type of ink- Icky, sticky, ooey, gooey ink. After 'drawing' or 'tracing' the item you want, you are supposed to use a special flashlight to 'cure' the ink into a hard plastic. Nope. Even with 3 flashlights, because we had 3 sets, the stuff never cured. It was similar to a wet, sticky fruit roll up...even a week later. We returned it all and my kiddos got something else. Would not recommend!

While the commercials make this look like an easy product it isn't. My daughter (9 years old) even said that they lied on the commercial. First of all the pen paint (or whatever it is) is messy. The pens leak when you squeeze them and they go all over. If it gets onto your counter tops be prepared to scrub and horrible to get off your hands. The gel is hard to get out of the pens to even create the design, which is really tracing fro a piece of paper. Once you trace you are supposed to use this flashlight that makes it dry, which doesn't (we had to leave in the sunlight). Once this is done you then need to try and assemble it, to make it 3-D which is impossible because you are supposed to use the gel as a glue, which again doesn't harden unless you put in the sunlight and the only way to make the pieces hold together is for you to stand there and hold them while they dry. Also the design is flat, so try making flat pieces stick together just doesn't work. I'd give this a zero stars if I could. This pretty much has gone right into the trash.
