Don't get me wrong--this is a fantastic set. The Caterham Seven is one of my favourite cars, and since I'll never build a real one, this is the next best thing. I really enjoyed the construction, and everything went together very smoothly. There were a few things I modified to improve fit and finish, but that's part of the fun. More importantly, there were so many extra parts in the box that I was able to tweak with what I had available. The engine detail is fantastic, and the hood pops on and off with ease. The removable trunk hood and roll bars are also great. The reason this gets four stars is that I don't think yellow and black are the best colour choices. You can't see any detail in the all-black interior, which swallows the light. In contrast, the seams in the yellow body panels are really obvious, particularly on the rear fenders. A darker body might have hidden the gaps better. I like the yellow, but I think I would have liked blue or red even more. I want to replace some of the flat panels in the seats to add colour to the interior, and maybe change some of the dashboard panels. And again, that's part of the fun. This is a great success for the Ideas program, and well worth the money for any Caterham/Lego fans.

Am I the only one that hated this kit, or am I one of the few that actually finished it. I have built about 10 large LEGO cars from the silver champ on. This was the only one that I wanted to glue together. The parts kept falling apart and the instruction sheet wasn't clear. Check step 207. They don't mention that the 3 round parts are not the same. One is a speedometer. I also don't feel that the parts fit together as well as in the other kits. I think that they were made in a different factory.

Have you ever wanted to build your own Caterham?

By klayman

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307):

Well, now you can, thanks to the latest addition to the LEGO Ideas line of models. I love (nearly) everything about this set, but to keep my review relatively short, I'll just list the pros and cons with a brief summary at the end. Pros: + fun build-up with some clever solutions + very detailed, good looking model + excellent value for your money + impressive parts list + displays really well + printed elements (!) Cons: - barely different shade of yellow in some of the bricks - minor, stability-related issues I already have a few large models (Blue Power Jet, Mini Cooper, Ferrari F40, VW Beetle), but this was my first ever Ideas set and I'm not disappointed at all: in fact, it just might be my favourite one yet. From the moment of opening the (equally good looking and sturdy) box through the assembly of the car I had a blast! Although I have given 5 hours for the whole process, that already includes sorting the pieces and admiring the ingenious techniques employed every now and then. The building itself isn't particularly hard, but because of the sheer number of parts used it can be a bit time-consuming. I'm not complaining though, for it was fun from beginning to end. I've listed the presence of the printed elements as last in the pros section, but actually that was the primary driving force behind the buy. I absolutely loathe applying stickers, so it just adds to the exclusive-feeling and value of the set. (I wouldn't mind if this habit was carried over to at least the Creator Expert line, if not all models.) My only problems are, as I mentioned previously, the slight difference between the shades of some of the yellow pieces (although it isn't nearly as noticeable as in the greens of the Mini Cooper) and the "rickety-ness" of the dashboard and nosecone (which were already noticed by others and can be fixed quite easily), but overall they are not too bad.

Ready to race!

By Thomasluc

Comments about LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307):

This was a first time building a car from LEGO and it was a joy throughout! As a kid building cars was my favorite LEGO occuption, besides maybe building Prince of Persia levels we played on our first PC. One would assume a car is a car and nothing will blow you away or can surprise you... this is not taking the creative team of LEGO into account. You are not expecting anything and you are just putting some bricks together and without even noticing it you have created a very detailed cockpit with moveable pedals you didn't think they would include. The buildup of the engine is so simple yet inginius. How they did the sloping of the hood... fantastic! They only downside maybe is the fixation of the cockpit, seems a bit wobbly to me, but I don't think this is a playing car so no worries there. This car has convinced me to buy the other as well I think, unfortunately they are not all to scale... A must buy!

Cool but flimsy

By Doom

Comments about LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307):

The model is nice looking and cool, but extremely flimsy. It's not quite as nice as the technic Porsche, but it does represent the car very nicely. My only major complaint is that there are parts of the set that keep constantly falling off at the easiest touch. It's great if you put it on a shelf, but definitely not meant to be played with, not even with the utmost care.

All in all, pretty good

Comments about LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307):

To put this into context, my last build was the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, so the difficulty and price are in a different league. But saying that, I did enjoy this build and the car displays quite well. My misgivings are the nose, which comes off quite easily (can't see where I've gone wrong) and the dashboard which I'm sure could be better but I'm not sure how.

Interesting model

Comments about LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307):

Considerable care went into the design of this model but it was clearly not intended for rough treatment. The wheels are functional but it isn't geared like the new Porsche, so it doesn't move very well. Aside from that, it's an entertaining model to assemble and has a few interesting features, like the capacity to put the model up on 4 jacks.
