Ever since I was young, I have always wanted the Lego death star, but the old one was so outdated that I never saved enough to get it. Once this one came out, I knew I had to get it. It doesn't deserve All the hate, just because it is $100 more. It has so many minifigs and big plates that are worth more than 10 cents per piece. I just wish it could have had a little more updates such as remodeling some of the interior. They could have put some grey pieces to put on the emperor's stairs, like the Death Star final duel set had. Also the trash compactor leaks pieces a lot. That's why I fixed those things!

This set is a minor upgrade of the previous Death Star, with one of the biggest updates being in the form of updated minifigures. The set itself has incredible play value! Display value is okay, but since the original set's release many years ago, lots of new parts and building techniques have been implemented, and things like the stair-stepping could have been minimized. Being able to remove modules would have helped with play a bit, too. The major issue with this set is the price point. With fewer parts than the recently released Disney Castle, this set costs $200 CAD more. I'm aware that themes, other sets, and piece counts are not directly comparable, but this price point is still significantly higher than it seems like it should be. Over the previous iteration of this set, factoring inflation and the new updates, this price point still doesn't seem to stick. This set comes with a lot of minifigures, most of which are not exclusive to this set (or won't remain so). The parts aren't all that unique... lots of common grey and black. Nothing wrong with that, but again takes away from the justification of the price-point. It's a wonderful set. It's just seems overpriced. Side note: personally, I'd prefer if the UCS label was used for models that have more display value than visible play value. It seems like there's been a shift to brand all of the higher priced sets as UCS this year, and I wish there could be a shift back. Just one ultimate collector's opinion! If you have the money, by all means, buy this set!

An INCREDIBLE toy for any Star Wars Lego Fan!

By Djdixon

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159):

If you are a Star Wars fan who has been wanting to get the Death Star for some time, now is the time to do it! This toy is absolutely amazing and totally worth any Star Wars fan's money. Minifigures: As much as I loved the set, the minifigures are what really appealed to me about this set. The level of detail that Lego put into it is fantastic. Between the new hair pieces for Han Solo and Grand Moff Tarkin, and the flexible capes for The Emperor, Darth Vader, and the royal guards, Lego did a great job with updating the minifigures. Also including a brand new droid, (the death star droid) which is an RA-7 unit was a great addition to the set, and is great replacement from the protocol droid from the original Death Star set. Finally, my favorite update that Lego did, was give Darth Vader a two piece helmet. It looks great, feels great, and is so much fun to react Vader's last words to his son when playing with the set. The Set (building): In terms of building, it is not too difficult, but is challenging due to the very similar colors that are used which can be hard to decipher in the instructions to an untrained eye. Younger builders also may need help with the two string functions that have to be tied as it can be a bit tricky to thread the needle through. Really the main challenge is just sticking with it as it took me about 16 hr. to build so I would recommend this set for ages around 15+ in terms of building. The Set (playability): Apart from the Minifigures, what I also really like about this set is how durable it is. With the exception of Death Star green laser beams nothing has fallen apart, and that is coming from a clumsy kid who bumps into everything. It is so durable in fact, that I think that any Lego fan regardless of age would have fun with it. Even younger fans who are just starting in their building experience will have so much fun with this set. There is also so much you can do with this set as well. Every single scene in the Death Star has been recreated so can reenact scenes from the Fourth as well as the Sixth Star Wars films. My personal favorite is the Emperor's throne room as it is my favorite Star Wars Scene in the entire franchise. Lego knocked this scene out of the ball park between the collapsing platform, to the updated window, and the bridge between the throne and the exit. Also, one more thing I have to mention, there are a ton of extra rooms and gimmicks that Lego put in this set including, an elevator, a storage floor (the bottom floor), a droid repair room, and more! Lego also has utilized the spring missiles with the Death Star's Turbo lasers which hold in nicely and do not fire at annoying times. Complaints: While this set is pretty close to perfect, it does have a couple flaws. First of all the hangar that holds Darth Vaders Tie Fighter (which Darth Vader himself can fit in) does not work very well. The Mechanism that holds the tie fighter kept leaning forward too much which was really annoying. I just removed it and like it better having an open hangar for my stormtroopers. Second, I wish Lego gave us a few more Death Star troopers and gunners as there is not enough for each of the guns, turrets, and viewing platform. Luckily I had one extra one which was all we really needed. Third, I wish that Lego had used Rogue One characters such as Director Krennic to give it the set a more updated feel. The key chain of Director Krennic is available to purchase on Lego and after purchasing him, I can honestly say that he looks great with the set and would totally recommend doing it. Finally, I wish Lego had found a way to make the beams more durable as it can be annoying to keep knocking these off. Each of these are minor issues and can be rectified and should not be the cause of a person not purchasing this set. Final Thoughts: Overall this set is a masterpiece. Not only are the Minifigures great, but the set itself is really fun to build, as each room/level reveals a scene from the movies. From an experienced Lego collector who has been collecting Lego Star Wars sets for 11 years, I can honestly say that this is my favorite Lego/Lego Star Wars set of all time.

Decent Challenge

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159):

I bought this set on a whim (let's face it, I really just wanted it). Took a good 8-10 hours to build it out. Was a decent challenge. Enjoyed stopping after every bag to look at what had been done and playing with all the scenes. Brought back some good memories of the Star Wars movies while doing it. The fact there are working doors, elevators, and weapons are all bonuses. Was looking for a challenging build and was glad I got it. If only I could get the 4ft Star Destroyer to add to the collection.

Fun to build, but.....

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159):

First, I must say that the designers of this product really outdid themselves. Although the instructions were quite lengthy (as you would expect for a 4000 piece LEGO), everything went into its proper place, there were NO QC issues or missing pieces, and there was very little ambiguity regarding piece placement. However, I think there should be much more "active shooters" with a set of this magnitude. Unlike some of the other kits, this one has very little in terms of rocket launchers (it would have been awesome to give the turbo laser towers and primary weapon some sort of rocket launch capability...it would greatly improve the playability of the set). As currently sold, the playability of the set comes from the multitude of characters, the moving parts within the Death Star, and the multiple "active stages" for recreating popular movie scenes. The unit is VERY pricey for what you get. LEGO should make an effort to drop the price on this unit by 10-20%, putting it on par with some of the other complex sets. I would recommend this only to the most die-hard Star Wars fans (with an unlimited budget) that have kids (or grandkids) with very active imaginations. Otherwise, I'd look to some of the lower cost sets that have more bells and whistles, giving you a bigger bang for the buck.

Pretty good

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159):

I got this set as a gift, and wasn't disappointed, as I didn't have the previous set. The minfigs have greatly improved, and some extra features have been added, but I was disappointed by the extra 100 bucks compared to the last set due to the extra 200 pieces. It is fun to play with, and looks great on display, and is a must have for any Lego fans that don't own the previous one. Mine was missing around 10 pieces (minor pieces) that I had to replace from my collection, and I know others that have had the same problem. Overall I think it is a great set, but is very expensive, and I feel like they could have just done an update to the old set instead of calling it a re-release, and they could've used that UCS slot to release (or re-release) something fans really want *cough* UCS millenium falcon *cough* also I recommend the imperial trooper battlepack, because they contain the new storm troopers in the set, and who doesn't need more stormtroopers

A fun build

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159):

I've built several large builds so far and this one has to be one of if not my favorite builds so far. As a big Star Wars fan this set hit all the right points for me, between the build and the scenes it has to offer it was great. It is rather pricy but as a fan of both Lego and Star Wars to me it was worth it especially after it was finished. This set is massive after it's built the pictures do it no justice. The only real con for me on this set was the price point but as I said as a fan it made it worth it. For the most part the build wasn't to challenging but there were some points that did slow me down for a second. This set also came with the best instruction manual that I have seen in a lego set yet, it was very easy to understand. The manual is the largest one I have seen for a set before and is very well printed making it clear. I'm not much of one for doing reviews but this set was so good and has received some negative reviews from some focusing on the cost and not the whole picture that I felt I should write one.
