I received the Angelcare AC517 Movement and Baby Video Monitor as part of the weespring Parent Panel. Let me start by saying that overall, this is a good monitor and would be a fine purchase for anyone looking to buy one of the more expensive monitors on the market that offers all the bells and whistles. For context, I am a second time mother. My oldest son is 5 and with him, we only ever had a cheap sound only monitor in a small apartment. Now, we live in a large house and my second is 3.5 mths old. Before receiving the Angelcare, I was using another video monitor that did not come with a movement sensor. Pros of the Angelcare AC517:
- It is very easy to set-up. There are few pieces and all of them already come "paired", so you basically have to place a few batteries and plug a few things in, and voila! This all went very smoothly and took only about 15 minutes.
- I like the quality of the camera and the sleek look of the parent unit. The picture is much clearer and nicer than my other (cheaper) video monitor.
- I like the option of the table top stand vs. mounting on the wall. Because my little guy can't move around yet, I simply placed this on the side of the crib and will worry about wall mounting later.
- I like the easily visible temperature display on the camera. The feature that allows you to set a temperature range alarm for the baby's room is pretty nifty. However, I could live without this since I'm in my baby's room enough to know if it's too hot or too cold.
- The range is great. This is probably the most important feature in any monitor to me after having a bad experience with my first (sound only) monitor. I was able to go anywhere in my 5,000 sq ft home and have it work perfectly.
- The wireless movement sensor pad seems to work fine. I know many mothers who would love this feature, but I am less interested than most and found it annoying for some of the reasons I list below. This is probably something I would have liked more when the baby was a newborn and I was more paranoid about monitoring his breathing, but at this point, it's not a feature that I really care enough about to spend the money on (and seems to drive up the cost of this particular monitor). Cons of the Angelcare AC517:
- The parent unit is a touch screen. It works, but was not as sensitive to my touch as I would have liked.
- Although this product was easy to set up, I found the instructions lacking in terms of navigating the features on the parent unit. This is pretty minor because overall, it's easy enough to figure out.
- The movement sensor pad: o When using the movement sensor pad, you have to remember to "pause" either the camera or the parent unit when you take the baby out of the crib. Otherwise, an alarm will go off after 20 seconds. Now, you may be a super alert parent in the middle of the night, but I am not, and this would drive me crazy when feeding the baby in the middle of the night. It's not exactly easy to get up in the middle of breastfeeding to turn off an alarm because you forgot to hit "pause". This by itself is enough to make me not want to use the movement sensor. o The crib mattress has to be flat to use this sensor pad (according to directions). I had the crib mattress propped up to help with acid reflux and had to adjust back down in order to use the sensor. o If you have the movement sensor on "pause" you are unable to access any of the other features on the touch screen without "unpausing" the sensor. o If you are NOT going to use the movement sensor, you need to deactivate it on the Settings menu. Otherwise, you're forced to deal with the "pause" button which is annoying for the reason I mention above. I had to look online to figure this out because it was not included in the directions with the monitor.
- The magnetic attachment between the camera and the stand/wall mount works well, but allows for minimal adjustment in angle of the camera. This was not as good as my other video monitor. Overall, as I mentioned earlier, this is a fine product for what it advertises. I will likely continue to use the monitor without the movement sensor pad. If you are not going to use the movement sensor pad, I would recommend a cheaper video monitor.

Overall, I think this is a pretty good monitor, but some of the extra features are clunky and difficult to use. I ended up just using this as a regular video monitor and disabling the sensor pad. Pros: Love that the parent unit, camera unit, and sensor pad all come pre-paired -- this part of the set-up was super easy! I also really appreciate the temperature sensor with color changing indicator; I'm always worried if the room is too cold or too hot, so this is an awesome feature. Picture is really clear, also like the fact that there's a clock, and the magnetic mount on the camera unit makes it super easy to place the camera in the right position. I really like the idea of the movement and temperature reporting too, but I haven't checked this out fully yet because of some of the cons with the sensor pad. Cons: My biggest issue with this product is the sensor alarm on the camera unit -- after 20sec of no movement, a VERY loud alarm sounds on both the parent unit AND camera unit. But the camera unit is typically in the baby's room, so if there's a false alarm or if you forget to pause the sensor pad, then you risk waking up a sleeping/calm baby and/or the whole house (because it's so loud!). I wish there was a way to turn the alarm off of the camera unit, especially because in the middle of the night, I'm in such a daze when I first get up, there's no way I can remember to pause the unit. I also had trouble with set-up because of the alarm/pause -- when you hit the pause button, you can't use the parent unit at all -- the whole screen is paused. So I had to leave the sensor pad on until I figured out how to disable it in the settings. But I couldn't even get through updating the time on the clock before the alarm would blast -- I tried holding the sensor pad against my body and under my leg to keep it moving, and even tried taking the sensor pad battery out, but it would just keep beeping at me. Lastly, the touch screen is cool in theory, but either my fingers are too fat or it was just really difficult to touch and trigger the buttons. Also, just wanted to note that if you do use the sensor pad and your crib bottom does not have a flat surface (like it has a metal grid/grate), you'll need to get a thin piece of wood or some other hard surface to place the sensor on top of. So, in summary, while I did not love the sensor pad features, I really like this monitor for its picture quality and temperature features. Thank you to the weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this monitor to try and review!

Good monitor

Comments about Angelcare Video and Sound with Wireless Movement Sensor Pad Baby Monitor - AC517:

This monitor was a little difficult to set up, but once it got setup it was simple to use. I love the feature of the temperature display on the camera as well as the monitor. I also love that you could set the sensitivity sound and movement when using the pad. The size of the screen was also a plus and it was very clear and not grainy like my other monitor. The only thing I didn't like was the sensor pad gave a couple false alarms and would also alarm in the babies room waking them up. Other than that I feel like this is a great monitor. Thank you weespring parent panel for sending me this to try and review!

High Quality Video and Motion Monitor

By Annieland

from Orlando, FL, United States

Comments about Angelcare Video and Sound with Wireless Movement Sensor Pad Baby Monitor - AC517:

This monitor was simple to set up and begin using for our 8 week old daughter who just transitioned out of her newborn napper. The motion sensing technology has given me peace of mind allowing for a more restful night's sleep which has been huge as a first time parent. The magnetic mount camera and touch screen parent panel are both great to use and high quality products, I love the quality of the image received on the parent panel. The only downfalls I've found are the temperature sensor, which seems to be calibrated high on our unit and the display of that temperature on the camera is very bright which of your child is sensitive to light when sleeping will be a problem as I haven't found any way to turn that off, and the motion alarm, which pauses easily and until you want it on again from the camera itself but when pauses from the parent panel seems to turn back on if you try to navigate to a different function such as settings or activity tracking and then you have to go back and pause again 20 seconds later. Other than these two minor issues we have really enjoyed using this product and would recommend it to friends with non-light sensitive children. Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this monitor!

This mama can rest at ease!

Comments about Angelcare Video and Sound with Wireless Movement Sensor Pad Baby Monitor - AC517:

Even though my son is baby number 2, I still worry about him. Is he still breathing? Did he roll over? Etc, etc. this monitor has eased my worries because it is constantly monitoring my boy. When I opened the box, I noticed there were a lot of little parts to fit together, and was a bit wary, but once it is set up, the hard part is done. I love that the camera and monitor come paired, and there is no "searching for device" or wifi connecting. Once it is set up, you're done! The monitor has a clean color picture and the screen will turn off after a while to save battery life. This is well worth the investment. I was given this monitor by the weeSprig Parent Pane in exchange for my honest feedback.

Great quality monitor!

Comments about Angelcare Video and Sound with Wireless Movement Sensor Pad Baby Monitor - AC517:

My husband and I are welcoming our second child and have a 3 year old. Needless to say we have our heads on a swivel and needs eyes everywhere! Thankfully, this monitor has great picture and sound! We love the size of the screen as well! We haven't used the motion sensor pad yet but trying to set it up was a little difficult. I have been fiddling with pausing it because the alarm is quite, for the lack of a better word, alarming! Across the board this is a great monitor and aesthetically pleasing. Looking to add more cameras for the play room! Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this monitor!

Great monitor!

Comments about Angelcare Video and Sound with Wireless Movement Sensor Pad Baby Monitor - AC517:

I got a chance to try this monitor as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. It was a little tricky to set up at first and didn't come with very clear instructions. My husband dod a bit of googling and we did some trial and error. But once we got it going it is a real delight to use. The talk back feature is fantastic and so far it seems like the movement sensor works well. We were skeptical at first of the movement sensor. It felt like an extraneous bell and whistle but it really does seem to work.

Comments about Angelcare Video and Sound with Wireless Movement Sensor Pad Baby Monitor - AC517:

I received this monitor as a gift from the weeSpring Parental Panel and I love it! Easy to setup and easy to use. With a big screen and clear picture day and night. My favorite part is the room temperature display (I didn't realize how hot it got where my daughter was sleeping) The only negative thing I could find with this monitor was the touchscreen on the parental held device. Sometimes I have to tap a couple of extra times for it to work. I definitely recommend this monitor!

Amazing!

I got a chance to try this monitor as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. I was super excited because I hadheard nothing but good things about previous models of this monitor. When I opened the package I was even more excited. I started using the monitor right away and I just love the screen because it is so big and has a very clear picture. I like that I can talk to my baby in order to help him go back to sleep. I can rest assured that my baby is safe as well because of the weight monitor that will alert me within 20 seconds if baby stops moving or breathing! and It definitely works because I've aready forgotten to turn off the alarm when I go to feed my baby lol! Nothing but good things to say about this monitor and will and have been recommending it to all of my family and friends.

Very high tech monitor!

By MegRodgers24

from Sykesville, MD, United States

Comments about Angelcare Video and Sound with Wireless Movement Sensor Pad Baby Monitor - AC517:

I would definitely recommend this monitor to any parent. The large parent unit screen and movement pad really give you the peace of mind to know that your baby is sleeping safely while not under direct supervision. Pros:This monitor has a very wide range and doesn't lose service! I take it outside with me while playing with my 2 older children and have yet to lose a signal while playing in our almost 1 acre yard. The set up was so easy as all 3 components were already paired. The magnetic wall or table top mount is another great feature. I also really like seeing the activity tracker to determine when my baby was most active at night and during naps. Cons: The instructions were vague and tough to understand at first although it doesn't take long to figure it out. While I love the touch screen parent unit, the touch feature is delayed and takes some getting used to. The wall mount needs to allow the camera to have a wider angle of movement as we mounted the camera on the wall behind the crib and couldn't get the right angle to see the baby. I also don't think that the temperature reading is necessary on the camera since it is already displayed on the parent unit and it is very bright. I had to move the camera further from the crib so that the light wasn't shining directly into my infants face. All in all, this is a terrific monitor and I would highly recommend it. Thank you to the Weespring parent panel for sending me this monitor!
