Ok, first let me tell you we did not get this new. We bought this second handed. When we got it, we did not know how or whether this toy works other than it has sounds when it turns on.

After getting this home, we found that the steps counting function did not work like many others who bought this toy. Trying to find out more, we download the manual from the manufacture and found that once the hat unit is connect, it can not be disconnect (at least not easily and not recommanded). A bit disappointed and knowing we could not return this, I took the toy apart and determine to fix it.

What I learned is that if the connection between the hat unit to the body or the connection between the body and the feet is not good, the counting function will not work.

To make the counting function work, you need to be sure the connection is good. Especially the hat unit. You really has to force the hat down to get the hat unit to form a good connection. Since the hat unit is design to attached to the body and not to be disconnected, it gives a false sense of assembly completed when the hat unit is attached to the body but in reality the electronic connection may not there.

I suggest anyone who has this toy and found the stepping function not work to check the parts connection. I hope this helps anyone who has this toy.

I found this on toys r us website for a screaming deal. only downside was there were some bad reviews. it was such a steal so I had to try it out. I couldn't be happier! everything works the way it should. if you tighten the feet on too much they won't work but just loosen it and it's fine. my son is 18 months old and he loves it!! he was stomping away as soon as it was set up and he loves the spinning balls in the top!!

I would've used the product in my home health business to work with preschool children. The V-tech kangaroo music and lights turned off too quickly and it did not count the steps. I thought it would be neat if it would count every step made by the child...it did not..it just would count to 21..I returned to the store for a refund.

Too bad it didn't work after my son had to endure unwrapping and assembly. This is not the quality I expect coming from Vtech. I am VERY disappointed,

We have twin toddler boys and purchased 2 of these for Christmas presents. I almost didn't get them due to the mixed customer reviews...fortunately I went against my first instinct and got them any way. We DID make sure to assemble them right away just to give ample time to get new ones if needed. Initially we had the same problem as many others with the feet not working. Thankfully, instead of just returning it my husband messed with it and sure enough the head snapped down a little more and it started working perfectly. This proved true with both...maybe this was the problem with the others as well? Anyway, they are great and even better affordable!

I read mixed reviews on these. I bought 2 and work wonderfully. I only got one at first but have twins and immediately they were fighting over it. They love them! Its a great way to learn things, left and right. Its also a fun exercise.

I bought this toy for my son for Christmas 2010 when it first came out. At the time, there were limited reviews, but all said the same-It didnt work. I decided to buy it anyway b/c of the few reviews. My son got soooooo much stuff for Christmas and even more for his bday (Dec 30) that we gave him a few toys each month throughout the year. By the time we got to the kangaroo, I was outside of the return period. We put it together and guess what...it didn't count. We attempted connecting it several times, but I knew it wouldn't work b/c I recalled the reviews. I was soooo disappointed. My son would play with the kangaroo's head (off the body) b/c the top worked, it just didn't count the steps or connect to the step portion at all. It is now October 29th. I kid you not, about 2 weeks ago my son gets on the kangaroo and it begins counting. My husband n I look@ each other like "OMG" we were so elated that we kept encouraging our son to step incase it decided to stop. This is sad I know, but seriously VTECH really fell short this time. It's such a great idea and extremely cute toy (I'd use it if I could lol), but it just did not work. I'd say save your money on this one.

Item came defective. Got another, defective. Researched and many people had issues with the feet not working. Shame because it's such a cool toy that my kids really wanted, but the feet don't work.

This kangaroo keeps the baby entertained & is hilarious to watch them. I love it & so does my grandson!

So I read the reviews before buying this toy! Since there were mixed reviews I thought I would try it myself! I bought 2 at once! One was for a birthday gift and the other for my 18 month old! When they arrived, the steps on BOTH did not work! I returned it to the store immediately! Very disappointing! Especially being a v tech toy!
