I received this product in sufficient packaging, though it is not really suitable to retain for storage. It's part plastic, part cardboard, and it is easier for us to just leave the Latch and Learn Schoolhouse out of the packaging when not in use. The schoolhouse itself, as well as the doors (5 sets) to be latched closed, is made of brightly colored, sturdy plastic. Each door is a different color, and has a small plastic figure which nests behind it, in a matching color. This is great for my nearly 2 y/o son, who loves to match colors. Each set of doors also has a different type of latch. There are 5 different latches, with varying difficulties. My youngest can open and shut them all with ease, except for one: a chain latch. The latches help him with his fine motor skills while he is matching the colors: win! While the latches are withstanding nearly daily use, they are also made of plastic. The chain link latch has separated, though not broken, at least twice, so far. Again, as yet this has not been an issue, but I am not sure how long the plastic pieces will hold out. The schoolhouse is equipped with additional fun details I can use with my pre-schooler. There is an analog clock face with moveable hands on the front, to practice telling time. The little red figure with the red door is slightly larger than the others: the teacher. The "rooms" behind the doors each have an item featuring its number, to illustrate the number, and at least a portion of each room's color corresponds with the color of its door (eg. The green door with the #1 has a picture of 1 green easel with 1 flower inside). It's helpful for color identification, counting, and number recognition. The plastic handle on top of the schoolhouse makes for easy portability. We have had to move pieces around, though, because one door doesn't stay shut, even when latched. Overall, a fun, portable, learning toy! Note: I received this item as part of an incentive program, in exchange for an honest review.

Fun, but not super sturdy

The children liked the school house. The only downfall is that the doors break easily.

Comments about Learning Resources Latch and Learn School House Playset:

My three year old loves locks and latches, so I was excited to get the schoolhouse for him. Upon arrival he sat and played with it for over an hour. It's so versatile. He first checked out how all the latches worked which is great for his fine motor skills. Then he moved on to naming the numbers and colors of the doors and people. Finally he named the people children and teacher and he's been using it as an imaginative play piece since. My only complaints are he's pulled off two different doors (which we were able to pop back into place) and the chain latch sticks. The peg is almost too small for the whole and the chain feels cheaply made. I'm worried that it's going to break from normal wear and tear.

This toy was fun in the moment to the children. The children like playing with it and the little people that come with it. It is very useful for young children learning how to maneuver different fine motor skills.

Comments about Learning Resources Latch and Learn School House Playset:

Even while in the packaging, the kids I care for (ages 1-6) were intrigued and wanted to get started playing. The package was fairly simple to open. The toy presents itself well and didn't need my guidance to get started. It is easily an individual/self play toy. However, can also be used to encourage sharing, taking turns, imagination, and playing together. The older kids had fun playing with the toy people and pretending they were going to school; the younger kids had fun imitating what they saw. Each kid liked working the different locks (really for fine motor skills). They all had some difficulty with the chain type lock on the orange doors, though. There is a certain angle needed to get the plastic circle to fit in place before it will slide. However, it didn't discourage them from playing... they just asked for help. I was impressed to see each of the kids naturally matching the color of the toy person to the color doors that they belonged inside of. There is clock with moveable hands that's great for practicing time telling with, however for this age group it hasn't really gotten any attention. In addition, some my own children (10 and 8 years old) have even sat down with the younger ones to play with the toy.

It was a great toy in general, but didn't keep the attention of my 4 and 2-1/2 year old for more than two play sessions. For the right child this would be an excellent toy.

My three year old daughter loves this toy, she loves the little people it comes with and putting them in the different "rooms' and figuring out how to lock/unlock them to get them out, It keeps her busy for long periods of time, that is always helpful for me to get stuff done! It is colorful and bright and not only educational but fun at the same time. One of the doors did come off but I was able to put it back on very easily.

We got this toy for our 3 year old who loves to play school. The different rooms were terrific and provided her with different scenes for school time. The latches were a big difficult to move at first where she even had to ask us to open it for her. Overall, a wonderful toy from Learning Resources.
