1st off the box it comes in is easy to open but then needs to be disregarded there is no long term storage container for your TotBot but that is ok because if you build him with all of his pieces the only free part left is the yellow wrench. He is very cute and likable, my daughter enjoyed naming him and acted like he was a robot friend. She would get frustrated with how much twisting it would take to get pieces on and off. She would often ask for help. My husband and I like that there where several way/items for learning (color, numbers and shapes). The toy is very durable and safe around my 18 month old daughter. She dropped it several times and it was totally fine. Really the only down side was her needing help sometimes twisting the piece on or off...this a relatively small problem but a fickle three year old who wants to change her robot often can be time consuming for a parent helper. But it is still good fun time together.

First, I will confess that my child is in the earliest stages of learning what this toy offers - challenges in fine motor skills: turning, twisting, using tools, etc. What is interesting about this product is that it draws a kid in visually. The robot's eyes - its shoes - all relevant for the young toddler; the colorful shapes are appealing as well. However, after playing with this toy, because of its limited use (children must screw on or off different shapes and can use a wrench if they are interested), there is a lot of frustration in wanting to be good at it right away and failing often in getting the shapes on and off easily. The wrench is difficult to get just right for a younger toddler to able to do the same - twisting and turning the shapes off - and ends up just getting bitten and chewed on.

It is the kind of toy that you would need to play with as a parent or child care provider WITH your children. Lots of demonstration, practice and revisiting the toy. I bring it out ever few days and turn it and use the wrench to turn the shapes in hopes that in she will do that "thinking thing" and return to the toy on her own mastering it and surprising me.

On a completely different note, the toys that we have come across from Learning Resources are packaged nicely. The material is softer and easier to open - no twisty ties to contend with, no need to cut plastic. Less is more in my book, and that is apparent with LR's packaging methods.

This game is good for preschool age children. It teaches them shape recognition as well as number recognition. It also helped the children use problem solving figuring out how to screw and unscrew the shapes on the robot. This was also great at enhancing their fine motor development!

My daughter loves the Tot Bot! She enjoys showing her younger cousins how to unscrew each shape as well as re-screw them on. They will sit and play for a good amount of time and stay entertained. I would buy this product as a gift for another child.

I received this product as part of an incentivized review program.

Comments about Learning Resources TotBot Builder - Blue:

The toy packaging was attractive and sturdy. Once the toy was out of the package, no directions were needed. My students were anxious to have a turn. They all liked that there was a tool to use, as well as being able to turn the pieces manually. They enjoyed putting it together in number order but also putting it together in silly ways, with the head in the middle or with space between the pieces. This coloful toy is sturdy and able to withstand many hands. The students were able to play alone but this could be interactive with an adult working with a child on shapes and colors. The children enjoyed this toy and it offers them the opportunity to learn colors, shapes, and numbers. They also share with each other and take turns. I received this toy as part of an incentivised review program. I would recommend this toy to friends and family.

The screw on the robot had too many rotations, which caused our 2 year old to lose interest It needs to have wider threads so there is less spinning. Once we took the screw out, he enjoyed playing with it.

I received this product as part of an incentivized review program. My granddaughters, ages 18 months and 3 years, didn't seem too excited playing with this robot. They twisted the pieces on and off the robot, and that was it. We showed them how to use the wrench, but neither was interested in using it. However, I like how each numbered piece of the robot is a different color and shape. The pieces are vivid colors and very durable. I see this toy lasting for a long time.
