Expensive but worth it in other ways

OK, these are so expensive. I'd say for what you get they're actually more expensive than classic Lego sets. Most of these items have large molded pieces, for instance, they house itself. So you're not actually buying a lot of bricks like the construction sets of Lego, it's different in that sense. The characters of Hello Kitty and her friends are so cute, I like that they're not "blocky" in design, they really look like HK items. So I bought this WAY ahead of time for a Christmas gift. If your daughter is into HK, you can't go wrong. One thing I like is that in a world of mostly boy Legos, the Mega Bloks empire decided to grab the licensing of HK and they've pretty much cornered the market. So IMO the company has my business because my daughter loves HK and Legos and these are very much like Legos but they're cutesy/girly/pink/etc. Which means that I'll go out of my way and out of our bank account to buy all of them!!! I wish that there would be more of a building factor, because in a way these are almost dumbed-down somewhat by providing a structure that is already built, as in girls sets have to be simple and already put together b/c they lack something to construct it...that's kind of the message I'm getting anyway, when you see boys sets that have a gajillion pieces and intricate designs. However, one can remedy that by purchasing a set of pink/pastel Legos and integrating them into these sets, offering more girl-type play, yet still offering the same building/creativity projects that boy Legos offer. My daughter has some of the small sets, she's almost six and I can hear her play acting scenes w/her other Lego minifigures. I like that she's involved enough to be immersed in her imagination. Anyhow, 'nuff said after all that. I'm a fan!!! Yay!

Got this for my 4 year daughter and although it was very cute, it came apart constantly. I know it's a lego set, but the pieces and the house would break apart and leave her very frustrated when trying to play with it like a any other dollhouse. I guess if you wanted to superglue it that might help, but for the price it wasn't worth it. We ended up donating it.

My granddaughter loved it! However, it was a real dumbed down toy. There is very little to build as the pieces are made of large, thin plastic. It is overpriced, cute garbage. I would NOT recommend this toy.

i got this last night for my daughters 7th birthday party saturday. it is super cute and a little bigger then i expected. some of the peices are really tiny, so be careful with the younger ones. all in all i am very pleased!

First off, shop around!!

We got my 5 yo this and 3 other sets over Christmas, birthday, etc. and she just earned a pink/purple Mega Bloks construction set with a few hundred bloks that match. She plays with them for hours at a time! I love that we've finally found non-princess, non-Barbie "girly" toy that allows her to use her imagination and improve fine-motor and design skills.

In regard to MGHK vs. LEGO...one of the reasons we got this was my daughter loved playing with her brother's LEGOs...the quality and fit are not quite on par with LEGOS and yes, the design element is way "dumbed down" compared to the LEGO sets that come with instructions. However, I don't think they intended them to be on the same level. Also, I looked at the new LEGO Friends sets and for the price I'm not too impressed with their design element either. We will probably look into those eventually but I like that these HK ones are a little "younger" and less precocious (not that anything is wrong with the LEGO ones...they'll appeal to the Barbie age girls...just trying to hang onto my little girl a little longer!!).
