Oh, how I waited for this car seat to come out... and waited... and waited. I had fallen in love with the idea of the rebound management handle, tall shell, high weight limit, no-rethread harness, ability to use without a base, and sophisticated patterns. Finally, I found out that the Lamaze Via infant car seat had come out at Babies R Us before the First Years Via, which is the exact same seat with a different name. I oohed and ahhed over the nice fabric and padding and jumped at the chance to get it.
I still love this seat for the reasons listed above, as well as its overall ease of use (it is extremely easy to install and use overall) and I truly feel like it will be very safe for my little one, but unfortunately, it is not without its flaws. The biggest and most annoying flaw is that you will not be able to order an extra base until at least the end of October 2011. How do I know? Well, I harassed the poor people at Learning Curve/Tomy (the manufacturer) for over a month before getting that answer this week. They told me that I could use the seatbelts and go baseless for 3 months. While I love having the option of going baseless for when the grandmas transport baby, it is not something I want to do everyday (after doing several trial runs). It is a testament as to how much I still like this seat that I bought another entire car seat with base rather than a different brand of seat that has extra bases available. I would suggest the use of a 20% off coupon for these purchases if you go this route.
The second flaw, and this may not be a flaw to you, depending on how you view the world, is that this seat is HEAVY. While I can't say I lifted every infant seat on the market, I did thoroughly check out the Chicco Keyfit 30, and that is lighter than this. I set this seat on my (pretty accurate) bathroom scale and it weighed in at 12 pounds without base, baby or anything else extra. Now, to be fair, this may have someting to do with the double-wall construction or overall size accommodations and safety, but it is something to consider. Maybe it's great for those who want a good workout while transporting their babies...I hope to have awesome biceps very soon.
Other (perhaps minor) flaws include the following:
The base has no angle indicator, which means that you have to install the actual car seat after you've installed the base to see if you've done it correctly. Also, the little marble angle indicators make an irritating little noise when they move that I had ever imagined would bother me so much.
The base easily adjusts for a better angle, but not enough for my 2009 Chevy Traverse. This meant that I needed to butcher an innocent swim noodle to get the correct angle, as even a rolled towel was not enough for a correct angle. Maybe this is a common problem; I don't know.
The handle tends to get caught on the sunshade in certain positions. To be fair, I noticed this with the Chicco Keyfit 30 and other seats as well.
If you want the option of easily clicking this seat into a stroller, you are very limited in your options (the Lamaze/First Years Wisp, Wave, and Indigo strollers are the only options I found). You may be able to "make it work" with other strollers, but it will not be as easy as clicking it in. I personally got the Britax B-Agile stroller, along with the car seat adapter (it's SO close to working without the adapter, but alas, no). It works with the adapter, but I have to strap it in and make sure it's secure.
That's all I can think of telling you all for now, but I'll try to update this as baby is born and grows.

At first this car seat may seem like the top notch and best car seat out there. However, for the simple reason of the car seat sticking in the base and not being able to get it out in a timely manner ruins it for me. It is very frustrating at times and horrible if your child is screaming and crying and you can not detach it from the base. It scares me, because if there happens to be an emergency I cannot count on it coming out the first time. Other friends who have other brands like Chicco and Graco do not have this problem. For the price that is paid, you should not be having this issue. 9 times out of 10 it does not come out on the first try and sometimes I have to use both hands just to get the handle to release.

Comments about Lamaze Via Infant Car Seat - Grey/Black:

We researched online for the highest rated as well as the top ranked ease of use car seat and we decided on The First Years Via. We are expecting a girl and were not to thrilled with the limited fabric choices of the Via for girls till we came across BabiesRus exclusive Lamaze Via its a great display of gender neutral. It is so easy to install and use correctly and way more padded then other car seats out there

Comments about Lamaze Via Infant Car Seat - Grey/Black:

I had the previous version of the carseat and got into a car accident. So I bought this version. I was very pleased with it. It's very comfortable for my son. We even traveled from GA to west Texas with him in it for 4 days and he did great! It's a little heavier than the previous version I had but the handle, inserts, and colors are nice. Not to mention the 5 start safety rating. I would buy it again.

I brought the Lazame infant car seat and I must say that I do love it. I like how it has built in photo frames in the handle for photo of child and family. Very nice touch! I had a boy so I thought the color was perfect. I will say the only thing that I wish I could change is the weight of the car seat itself.I find it to be on the heavy side. I also brought the Lamaze stroller so I can use the frame of the stroller for the car seat as well. I absoultly love them both! Very good envestment so far :)

Comments about Lamaze Via Infant Car Seat - Grey/Black:

I love everything about this car seat from the color to how it fits my child. I have read that people have a hard time with the seat being hard to get out of the base, i haven't had any problems with that. Although i just leave the seat locked in the base all the time and just take my child out... I had a csection so it was impossible for me to lift my baby in any car seat. I have found it is much easier just to leave it in locked into base in my car. I also have the stroller that matches and I love it as well. I have not had any problems

This is the worst car seat ever. The wheels would not roll straight, had flat spots in them, bounced my son around and got stuck in the base. Took 3 screwdrivers to get it out. Contacted manufacture about problems, and was told "thats not under warranty"! It was 1 month old!! I would not take this carseat/stroller combo if someone gave it to me. Do not waste your money!!!

I received this car seat as a baby shower gift. I loved the neutral look of it. The car seat works well enough but unfortunately is incredibly heavy. My daughter initially hated her car seat and was always sweating in the seat because it was not breathable fabric and the padding surrounded her. Although the car seat works well I would not highly recommend this seat.

Comments about Lamaze Via Infant Car Seat - Grey/Black:

I love love this car seat. The very first thing that caught my attention about this car seat was the pattern and how secure it looked. Once I read all the details at the store about the car seat I immediately added it to my registry. Once my baby arrived I was satisfied with my choice. First my son fits so snug and safe in this seat. Car seats I had for my first son his little head always was slumping over to where I had to buy several products to help support his neck. I bought a Joovy sit and stand universall stroller which you strap the car seat on. The additional click snaps on the side of the car seat hold it very secure. I do agree with other reviews the seat is on the heavy side but I know my son is safe as can be so its worth it plus it is getting my arms in great shape =) I have nothing negative to say about this product love it!

Comments about Lamaze Via Infant Car Seat - Grey/Black:

Being a first time mom, I tried to do as much research as possible when it came to big ticket items, such as the car seat, stroller, etc. I put the Lamaze Via and coordinating stroller on my registry and received both at baby showers. I was intimidated by this car seat at first, but then took it to our fire department to have a registered car seat installer take a look and help me and my husband install it into our vehicle. She was super impressed by all of the features and ease of installation!

What I love best about this car seat:

        - My 7 pound newborn sits deeply into the seat and is snug without having to add any additional padding.
        - The release button on the straps makes putting baby in and taking him out super easy.
        - My husband can take the baby and seat in his truck, without the base, and install it correctly, using the leveling guides / balls.
        - The seat clicks loudly into place into the base, so I know it's secure!
        - I've received tons of compliments on the style/fabric as well.
        - The crossbar has wide sections that make it comfortable to place onto your forearm to carry.

I had read some complaints about how heavy the seat is - I'd much rather have a slightly heavy seat, knowing that it is protecting my baby! And besides, it's not THAT heavy. Also complaints on the shade not being large enough - I agree with this, but I unsnapped it so that I can move it back and forth, therefore my baby is always under the shade no matter which way we turn. Issue resolved!

There is only one feature that seems to make me cranky, and that's the release button that releases the seat from the base and the stroller - sometimes it is finicky but I've noticed that it's only difficult when I'm yanking on the seat at the same time. I've gotten more patient and the issue has seemed to resolve itself!

I was also disappointed that this seat wouldn't fit on any other strollers aside from the Lamaze brand. However, I also received the stroller as a gift and I have to admit - I love it too! But that's a different review...

Comments about Lamaze Via Infant Car Seat - Grey/Black:

We are on our second Lamaze Via. The first got stuck in the base and we were unable to remove it. We called Tomy's customer service and they were really great, we had a new seat in the mail the following day. Fast forward 2 1/2 months and we have another Via stuck in the base. We have been offered the same option of replacing the seat. I have no desire to have another seat get stuck after 2 months.

On a good note, my son is comfortable in it.
