The Lego Space Center was a gift to a four year old boy from a family member. He had help from his dad and older cousin, putting it together. But, he loves it! The frame holding the rocket can be moved in and out of the whole frame. It is not only entertaining, but it teaches the young child about a space center concept and rocket design, etc. Great product! It is housed on his dresser with the Lego Island Lighthouse, and he loves both!

This set was a disappointment all around. There are four parts to it, each one with its own problems: Buggy: This is, for all practical purposes, useless. It is too small and only seats the driver and an astronaut hanging on the back of it. The instructions have the EVA “suit on the back, but it seems pretty lame to have a vehicle dedicated to driving around a helmet. Command building: This is probably the best part of the kit overall. It has enough detail to be interesting but like almost everything else, it is too small. There should be at least two launch officers (if not four), not a guy in a suit that quite frankly looks like the Wolfman. The parabolic antenna on top is very nice, perhaps the best thing in the box. It is on a spinner and can move up and down. Space Launch Complex (SLC): This is way too flimsy. In addition, the tools that come with it are ridiculously large. The moveable crane is a nice concept, but there needs to be a bridge to the rocket, otherwise I suppose the astronaut has to leap inside the payload fairing. The fuel hose is a nice touch, but there should be a second hose that goes from the fuel storage at the bottom, which is too small, to the hose on the second level of the SLC. Like the large shuttle set the lights are pointless. One interesting thing about the SLC is that the rocket is on a vehicle that rolls the rocket to the SLC (which is very realistic). The locking mechanism on the bottom is a nice touch as I can see the rocket tumbling if the set is accidentally kicked or shifted too fast. Rocket: To be honest the rocket is why I bought the set, since I am a space officer in the Air Force. It resembles a Delta II but it, like the whole set, is lackluster and could have been much, much better. First, the fuel line that goes from the SLC should attach to something. The outside of the rocket is completely devoid of features. The solid-fueled strap-on side boosters do not detach, which would have been more realistic. You have the option of building either a satellite or a spacecraft for the astronaut and placing one or the other inside the payload fairing. The spacecraft is a joke and should not have been included (although little kids will probably like it). The satellite was disappointing because it lacks any real detail. I suppose it is a communication satellite, but there ought to be more to it. The rocket ought to be three stages; however, there is a long rod that runs the entire length of the rocket and does not allow for easy separation between stages. Lastly, the rocket should be secured to the base by more than a simple length of rod as it has a tendency to wobble. Perhaps the very best thing about this set is that in the instructions there are two pictures of builds for the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station. While I would much, much prefer that these be less of a toy and more of a display, their manufacture will be a welcome addition. I do not know if LEGO has plans on releasing these, but I hope they do! I know this is a rather harsh review, but this could have been a much better kit. Kids will love it because it is large and has many playable features; however, for space nerds like me it was a disappointment.

Wrong item shipped; terrible cust. svc,

Comments about LEGO City Space Center (3368):

I ordered this set for my son's xmas present on 12/07/13. When the box arrived from Toys r' Us it had the wrong item (a $29 space shuttle set instead of the $70 set I ordered). I called Customer service & at first was very impressed, since they assured me they would get the correct item out to me ASAP via 3-day express and that I didn't even have to return the other item, since it was their fault. They said I would receive an email confirmation within the hour. It never came. I called back the next day. At first they had no record of my previous call. Then they found it and said the only record they had indicated that the customer service representative "had indicated to the customer that the item was out of stock." I was utterly flabbergasted by that lie. After a lengthy phone call involving being put on hold, etc. I was informed that there was nothing they could do to make it right because the item was out of stock and that I DID have to return the cheap set they had mistakenly sent me -- meaning that in addition to two long phone calls, I was now expected to print a label, box up the product, stand in line at the post office, and mail back the item they had mistakenly sent me. When I insisted that surely they owed me something to gesture toward acknowledging their error, he said he could give me 10% off my next order. I replied that out of principle I would accept that, but that I planned to NEVER purchase from them again. Better to pay the extra $ to certain other online retailers (who shall remain unnamed, lest Toys r' us censor this), but at least get the correct item and in a timely fashion.

        Awesome.

Comments about LEGO City Space Center (3368):

Okay, I enjoy reading all the reviews before and after I make a Lego purchase, and I need to say a few things before I start my review. My favorite one is from a guy who is obviously highly intelligent and actually works in the space business. We must remember, this is a Lego set, not a replica from The Franklin Mint. That being said, I'm a firefighter and paramedic, and I own many Lego Town fire department related stuff. The engines and trucks, and even ambulances are not accurate to the real thing. That's okay! Using a little imagination is what Lego is all about! Now, lets talk about this set. As usual, I originally saw this set and thought, "Gee, that's pretty neat, kind of reminds me of my early space sets back when I was a kid." Well, I built this tonight, and I must say wow. The completed set simply looks impressive, if not downright majestic. I actually plan to rig my curio so the light shines on it like NASA does it. Sticker haters beware - there are quite a few of them, but if you're careful and use a pair of tweezers, they look fantastic. The rocket gantry is stout. It's not going to survive a trip down the stairs, but it's supported well without taking away from the realism and looks. Nice touches abound, from the detailed countdown clock to the nifty elevator, which uses wheels as bearings. I always love a plethora of computers in space related sets, and the control modual does not dissappoint. I love the rocket transporter with the slick tires, and it locks into place, so the rocket is exactly where it needs to be for launch. The little satellite that sits in the nose compartment has folding solar panels, which is just like the way NASA would launch it. I did have a slight issue with the tip of the rocket being loose, but I soon discovered that it takes a little finessing to secure it correctly. I agree that the rocket does wobble slightly on the launch pad. So? All and all, I'm highly impressed as usual. After building a Unimog, this was a nice and easy build that I enjoyed immensely. The end result is impressive and fun!

Comments about LEGO City Space Center (3368):

Our son had been looking at the Lego Space Center for months. He was able to put most of it together by himself. He did need some help with the launch pad. He has all three pieces to the space set and he spends hours playing with them. My only complaint is that the launch pad comes apart very easily. Our son will turn 5 in August, so he is younger than the suggested age for this set. I am tempted to glue some of the pieces on the launch pad together, but I know that he will eventually want to take it apart and put it together again by himself..
