I bought this for my nephew's 5th birthday. He loves everything legos right now. It didn't take him that long to put it together and he could do it all by himself, which he was very excited about. He even used the raft/boat in the bath.

My husband has collected Legos for years, and I never really understood it. But when I saw this set, I wanted it! So this was my first lego set, in my late 30s. I absolutely love it. It is so cute. All the details are amazing. It was very easy to build, even for a newbie. You get several minifigures and lots of little accessories. I often see complaints about no legos for girls; this would be perfect!

After years of LEGO making a ton of fire and police sets for their City series, it's refreshing to find that they've decided to try something different with the LEGO City Marina. The set is really, really nice in that it has some cool minifigures and parts. I especially like the diver minifig, and I think kids will make him their favorite when playing with this set. The boat, quad, and windsurfer have lots of play value, and make me wish I were still young enough to play with these things rather than being an adult builder/collector. The instructions are excellent for teaching kids how to follow directions to build things properly. They are to the point, and shouldn't be a hassle for the set's recommended ages to construct. This set should be built and played with on a hard surface, though. The two buildings are connected by a bridge that does come apart easily if you need to move it somewhere (i.e. a shelf, dresser, table, etc.). The bridge is designed to easily come apart for easy transit. The bridge is not designed to be super sturdy. I can see this being frustrating for people not familiar with how LEGO works. Time and again, I see reviews on here about how a set isn't good, and is a waste of money because it supposedly doesn't stay together. If you or your child builds it properly, then it won't fall apart. LEGO sets are foolproof as long as directions are followed. There is a basic science to building these that real life architects, and construction crews use everyday to assemble real buildings. If you have no concept of how to stagger bricks to make them support a structure, then please do not buy LEGO sets. It will be a lost cause if you have no concept of building theory. If your kid is a whiz with wooden building blocks, then LEGO sets should be the next logical step in their development. They will understand this stuff.This set should be constructed with adult supervision especially when it comes time to put the stickers on. Kids will have a tough time aligning the decals (i.e. stickers), because it really takes some skill to get it right. They need to be applied with a butter knife, or a razor blade so you don't get fingerprints, and oil from your fingertips on the adhesive side of the stickers. This will cause them to not stick properly if you go touching them. Sounds retentive, but necessary.I suggest that anyone buying this set needs to purchase 2 blue "water" building plates for this set. It really looks nice when attached to them, but you do need 2 of them. The complete marina will not fit on just one plate.The [$] is mostly justified in that it does come with about 15 dollars worth of figures, and has some very unusual pieces and parts not commonly found in other sets. This sometimes accounts for the prices of LEGO sets. All in all, the marina is a fun set, and makes a nice addition to anyone's LEGO city.
