Product Description

Milkscreen Alcohol (8 pack) detects the presence of alcohol in breast milk. Simply saturate a small test pad with breast milk and then read the results in 2 minutes. ANY color change on the test pad at 2 minutes indicates that alcohol is present. After nine long months of pregnancy, some moms are interested in having an occasional or celebratory drink but worry about passing alcohol on to baby. Milkscreen provides peace of mind, so moms can breast feed with confidence. Milkscreen is an easy to use at home test to detect the presence of alcohol in breast milk. Milkscreen detects the presence of alcohol at 13.1 mg/dL or greater in breast milk. Some Moms mistakenly think that after just one alcoholic drink they are okay to breastfeed. However, about 2% of the alcohol Mom consumes will enter her bloodstream and breast milk. Because everyone metabolizes alcohol differently, the amount of time it takes for the alcohol to leave your breast milk also varies. Alcohol is not trapped in breast milk, and draining your breasts will not expedite the elimination of the alcohol out of your system. Over time your body will naturally metabolize the alcohol from your breast milk but the only way to know for certain that the alcohol is gone is to test your breast milk. A "feeling" of intoxication or non-intoxication is not an accurate indicator of determining if alcohol is present or not in breast milk.

The Milkscreen Home Test for Alcohol in Breast Milk features:

  • Detects the presence of alcohol in breast milk
  • Fast, accurate results in 2 minutes
  • Easier to read results and new package design
  • Peace of mind so you can breast feed with confidence

My husband was home on R&R from Afghanistan and wanted me to have a drink with him. He felt I deserved it since I wasn't pregnant anymore! I felt sooooo nervous because you never really know when the alcohol is gone. This test gave me the relief to feel like a good mommy AND enjoy a well-deserved night out with my hubby <3

A strip that tells you whether your milk contains a minimum amount of alcohol of 0.02% by placing a small drop or dipping it in breast milk. Results take 2 min. Seems very convenient if you decide momma needs a drink and you want to make sure the lil one is safe. I never got a positive, which made me wonder if they worked, then again I only had half a drink one time and sips of beer the next time. Since alcohol doesn't stay in breast milk it only passes through, that was the reason for my negative results. Plus I waited 3 hours from my last drink to test, which gave my body plenty of time to metabolize the small amount of alcohol. Very expensive, if you plan to drink it up often, since the strips cannot be re-used even if they were negative.

Comments about Upspring 1010320 Milkscreen Home Test for Alcohol in Breast Milk 8 Pack:

It was good I guess. I had one drink and waited awhile before using it and it didn't change color. So I'm guessing it was correct. I was still paranoid and waited extra long tho

It does give you peace of mind after having a drink or two that night but it is sort of difficult to tell if there is a color change sometimes. I just say that if I have any doubt then I pump and dump and wait four+ hours before breast feeding.

Being a first time mom I was nervous about everything. And it was nice having piece of mind knowing that after a drink or two I wouldn't be poisoning my baby or throwing out precious breast milk unnecessarily. This kit was simple to use, I set a timer for 2 minutes, added a few drops of milk and waiting to see if there was a color change. If it changed colors I knew my milk had alcohol in it and I would throw it out. It is a relief knowing for certain that what I'm feeding my baby is safe.

Seems to do the job. I had tested the strips on a batch of safe pumped milk and then on what I knew would be contaminated and the response was quick and accurate. Still wouldn't recommend having more than 2 cocktails when nursing because drinking tends to slow production down after a day or two.

I tried the strips after having a glass of wine to see if my milk was contaminated but the overall test is a little hard to read. They should make the test turn a bright color instead of a grey because the strip looks grey when you take it out from package!
