I use the product by turning the shell. It swims very well! It is 100% pretty! Her mermaid tail is very nice! There is nothing wrong about it! It is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too pretty for me! I like it super extra much!

Based on the reviews, I don't know if this doll will even work as promised, but my little one is dying for it. So, I ordered it anyway. The doll arrived in a package that looked like it had been run over by a truck. The doll was scratched. But the packaging that it arrived in was perfect and the other item in the same shipment was perfect. So, it's clear that whoever packed the doll saw the mangled item before they put it in the box and shipped it to me anyway. Toys R Us, I expect sooooo much better than that!

This doll does not swim at all. The tail will flap up and down, but not forcefully enough to propel the weight of the doll through the water. I gave it 2 stars because my daughter still plays with it and manually makes her "swim". The idea behind the toy is great, but it seems the manufacturer did not take into account the added weight the doll would take on when the tail portion fills up with water. Cute idea, poor execution.

The doll itself is very pretty. It swims by winding up the shell in the middle of her belly then relase and she does mermaid type movements. My son got this for my daughter for her 6th birthday and we took her in the pool and it's great underwater but above it just looks like she is flailing. Still a fun toy, my daughter likes her.

I purchased this for my 5 year old daughter. I am keeping it only because she loves Ariel. It is a pretty doll, but very badly made. It really does not "swim" ---she flips her tail for a few seconds when winded up. And her hair was already falling out on the first bath. A waste of money.
