My son received the Tag Junior for his 2nd birthday and has really enjoyed the Ready to Read book set. The stories are simple enough for him to understand it on his own and get to know the characters from book to book. He especially loves the songs from each book. He plays them enough that my husband and I can't get them our of our heads.

My son knew his letter sounds by 20 months thanks to Leapfrog. He was reading short vowel words by 2 1/2. We have owned the Leapfrog Tag Jr. since he was 1 but he has never shown an interest in the system. For his 3rd Birthday I added the Leapfrog Tag Reader and the Short Vowel and Long Vowel book sets to his wish list. We received this set vs. the Tag set and I'm not happy with them. Very basic and unlike the Tag the Tag Jr. doesn't sound out the words it reads the entire sentence. My kid can already read these books so he whipped through them in 15 minutes without the Tag Jr. and has not touched them since. Also, it takes up so much memory on the Tag Jr. you can only load 1 or 2 other books in addition to this set. If your child is "ready to read" I would suggest the Tag Reader with the Short Vowel book set.

Comments about LeapFrog LeapReader Junior: Ready to Read Book Set:

This book set has been a great addition to my son's Tag Junior. It takes up quite a bit of drive space on the device, but there are so many books in this group, it's hard to complain. The themes are fun for my son to follow, and the music is SUPER. My husband and I find ourselves singing along. Great tunes... ;) I like that it's teaching the same vowel sound throughout the entire story. Once he starts to read, he can see how the words are spelled too, so this makes this toy truly stick with him as he grows up.

The books have a lot of features for learning . It can be annoying if they are used for music and playing. They are meant for close adult supervision. I wished that we could download all the books we bought at once as we haven[t had the chance to use one of the books until we delete something else.

Cute when it worked. Software is very poorly designed. I downloaded audio to several books that I bought. Some worked others didn't. The audio will not transfer to the tag junior hand held device. I have tried it on multiple computers and have had the same type of problems. I am a system admin and know how it should work and this is not how it should work.

My 2 year old loves to read books and this seems more like a toy. The books are a bit pricey & don't seem to offer valuable learning material. The only reason we have this is because it was a gift.

The original price for LeapFrog Tag Junior books is a little outlandish. I wouldn't have ever boughten the set, except my son got it for his birthday this year. During black friday ToysRUs and [@]has some great deals though - so I bought some books. I mainly got this one because you get 7 for the prices of one book. I always stress to parents that I wouldn't buy the Tag or Tag Junior with the expectation that kids are going to learn to read from them. Its just another fun toy!
