Fun, but misleading.

The product concept is great, but... nowhere does it state DISPLAY ONLY - NOT FOR CONSUMPTON USE. We gave this to MANY girls for Christmas (unknowlingly). My daughter cried because she wanted one too (she's 5 1/2yrs), so I got one. We had fun painting it. She anxiously waited for drying, then baking. Now she wants to use them for breakfast. It'll break her heart not to use it. Had it been list and we known, I could have prepared her!

Plus I could not get my paint to look like the picture. Fusha/red = gloppy, green = dried out (adding H2O as directed, thinned it), pink & yellow = too pale (many layers to get deep color).

Plus, can"t tell if baking it did any good or not.

My daughter was so excited to paint her new Christmas gift. We followed the instructions and baked it accordingly. The instructions so not have in bold print or noted on the box to stand out that this product is for display only! My daughter wanted to use her new gift, to only have the paint wipe off easily.

    My daughter loved decorating this set, but I noticed afterwards that it is for decoration only. That's a shame. She is seven and could do this on her own. The paint was a little thick, and she ended up using her fingers to put it on.

        This was a gift, but had the box advertised that this is NOT for food consumption, I am sure it would not have been given to my daughter. Why make a place setting art kit if you can not actually eat off of it!? The paint was either dried out or just poor quality, because my daughter had a hard time using it and getting it even. She even was frustrated at first when she could not get it to look the way she wanted. Do not waste your money on this.

            Utter garbage! Paints are dry (as if adding water helps-just makes them clumpy), paint brushes are hard as a rock and can't spread paint...and NOW after coming here to figure out company info, I realize she can't even use it?! What a waste of money!!!! I have never had a problem at tru, but they will certainly be hearing about this one!

                  Not only was my 5 1/2 year old crying after we baked the set, because as soon as we washed it, ready to use it for dinner the paint started washing off; but I am so upset that I bought 4 of these for my kids' winter break art activity. The plan was to use them for meals, as you would expect to be able to since the set includes, not only a plate but a bowl and mug as well. Why would anyone want a display dish set? The packaging should clearly state that the dishes once painted and baked cannot be used for eating off.

                  Like many of the other reviewers have stated, painting the sets were fun, but everyone was upset that they couldn't actually use them!

                  Don't buy this product!!!!!!!

                                  This is a great idea but terrible execution. Like other reviewers, we were surprised byt he fact that you can't actually USE this set once painted. What's the point then? Also, the paints were all completely dried out. I added water to thin them down but that just made them thin and messy. NO where remotely close tot he box. All in all just very frustrating. And TRU has the worst return policy anywhere. I ahte buying thigns from TRU b/c of it. Of course w/a half used product and no receipt they won't take this back. Silly me for expecting to buy paints that you can actually paint with!

                                      I'd give this zero stars if I could. Perhaps the worst pottery kit ever. The paint is sloppy and uneven (my meticulous 10 year old daughter and I could not get it to look anywhere near the way it does on the picture on the box), some paint was dried out, the brushes are useless and I wasn't aware until I came on this site that you can't eat off of them. She is now angry that this project that frustrated her so cannot be used. AWFUL!! It was a gift, and I have yet to find anything from the Totally Me line that isn't junk, but this is easily the worst. I wish her grandmother would stop sending her this stuff.
