I received this diaper bag in 2007 and have been using if for the past 4 years through 3 kids. Finally after 4 years of use the zipper no longer works and we have to retire this diaper bag. It has held up great for several years of use. I like the backpack style so I can keep my hands free. I ended up buying a different changing pad because the one included was too small, but was able to easily store the bigger one in the bag.
I like the way the bag is laid out with different compartments, one large one in the middle and two smaller ones on each side. I have been able to keep all of our stuff organized and in one place.
I recommend this diaper bag, it has worked great for my family.

Much like everyone else, the thought of a back-pack seemed like the best option for us. We're constantly on the go and I wanted something sort of neutral in color, so the hubs and I picked this one out of many. I ordered it online and hadn't really noticed the material...didn't read the reviews but REALLY wish I had. At first glance, it seemed fine...but a few weeks into it, the straps started ripping apart. The zipper broke off, pockets started coming apart. Totally not work the $50 plus bucks we spent on this. So, we're on the hunt for a better diaper bag. I tried to contact Columbia about this and they simply gave me a different # of company who makes this for them and that got me nowhere. Save your money guys. Oddly enough, I found another Columbia messenger bag that we're thinking of getting....saw it at the store and it's MUCH better quality. Still skeptical on another Columbia diaper bag. I think this time around, we're going to REALLY shop around for the best fit for the hubs and I.

Comments about California Innovations Columbia Trekster Backpack Diaper Bag / Black:

My husband and I really liked this backpack diaper bag because it wasn't big and bulky. Unfortunately it began falling apart less than 4 months after our daughter was born. We ended up throwing it away at about 6 months and ended up buying just a basic kids back pack. We were really bummed about the poor quality because the bag was just what we wanted.

I love this bag, I've had it for almost 7 years! I've had the same diaper bag for all 3 of my kids and it's still in great shape. Nothing on my bag has fallen apart, I machine wash it all the time. I love all the different compartments in it. I highly recommend this bag. It's working great for my family!

Great diaper backpack if if didn't fall apart!
Hidden inside pocket for phone - nice duel zip. Holds almost everything. Place for bottle where bottle stays cool!
Key fab - has it all - BUT : after 7 months of use the whole bag is falling apart: ripping at the seams.
Purchase only if you are good at mending/sewing.
        Should be less expensive!

As soon as I received this bag as a gift, I knew I had to return it. Even though I didn't have my little one yet, I could tell that it was WAY too small to be useful. Also, I wanted a backpack so my husband could tote it around without shame. He's 6 feet tall and this tiny backpack would look like a child's purse strapped to his back. Not good. We exchanged this bag for the Fisher Price Backpack Diaper Bag and have not looked back. We're much happer with the Fisher Price model.

My sister has a bag like this from 2010 and it is still in tact and very functional. I wanted one just like it when my second child was born. It has been 9 months since I got this bag new and it has lost two zippers and has 2 holes on the front from the seam coming apart. This is not worth your money!

I have had this bag for two years, and I absolutely love it! It has been perfect for being out for the day with my daughter and my husband uses it willingly. The bag is still in great condition after the abuse we have put it through including tossing in the washing machine when milk spills in it or it gets dropped in a puddle. I now have two kids and I am upgrading to the newer Columbia Timeless messenger bag for a little more space and more organizational pockets. The one area I have found this bag lacking is that the main compartment is just a big cavern and you have to be very intentional about how you use the space. If it had some mesh pockets in there this would be a 5 star product.

This bag was given to my husband as a gift. It quickly became our everyday diaper bag. The size is perfect for daily running around. Really love the bag in general. My only complaint is that one of the shoulder straps is already unraveling and the zipper seam busted on top of the bag. We've only had the bag for one month. Being a Columbia product I expected better durability.

I have never written a review before, but I felt compelled since this is one of the worst products I have ever purchased. It might have the Columbia name, but don't be fooled, it's definitely not Columbia quality. It's frayed and ripping and the zipper doesn't work. I would never recommend this bag to anyone.

I have only used this bag for 2.5 months and it is completely falling apart. The zipper liner has detached and the straps are frayed and falling apart. I only carry it back and forth from work to home, it has not gone through any kind of strenous travel and it is built so poorly it wouldn't make it through one big outting. I am so disapointed with Columbia and Babies R Us for selling this poor product. It is NOT worth the money.
