My son got this as a gift for christmas. He and his sister were excited to choose a drawing for the penguin to draw.
As other reviewers comments, it really does need an adult to complete the numerous steps required to set it up - there are 5 switches to get in the right position in the correct order, so I wouldn't suggest that a child could do this on their own. Unfortunately, our penguin did one drawing and then didn't work again. I also found it nigh on impossible to get the pen out.
I think this product is a great concept, but ultimately overcomplicated and unreliable.

Very cute, and I'm amazed at how many pictures it can draw. My daughter loves coloring the pictures. In response to some of the other reviews-- it takes between 3 and 9 minutes to draw each picture (depending on the complexity). My three year old hasn't minded at all watching it draw for that long. Or you have them color one while the penguin is drawing another. Not a big deal.

It's getting 4 stars instead of 5 simply because an adult absolutely has to be the one to set it up and run it. There are quite a few steps to get right. No way a young child could do it, so this is not an indepedent activity. But I've never had a problem getting the marker out as some have said.

If you have a good 20 minutes to waste then this is a good product. Otherwise, it will not hold an adult's, let alone a child's, attention while it draws the picture. Also, once you get the marker in, good luck trying to take it back out. I'm returning ours tomorrow.

My daughter is 2 she got it for christmas and she had fun watching it draw the pictures. She did not color the pictures, but had me do another picture over and over. I would recommend it, if your child has a longer attention span and is patient.

Seems like a great toy for a kid, but it takes too long to start drawing and when it starts, its very slow. My daughter got restless waiting for it to start and finish drawing and ran off. It's amazing that this thing can draw these pictures, but it's time consuming sitting around watching.
