My son has 3 toys/mobiles in his crib and this is his favorite. No batteries are required which is great because you never have to worry about buying expensive batteries and changing them in the middle of the night when your baby is fussy and you are tired. He loves looking at the different characters and he really loves the tinkly music that plays. He loves attention and usually cries when I lay him down but when this mobile is turned on, he is happy! It keeps him occupied in his crib and gives me time to get ready in the mornings :)

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a cute mobile but I made the mistake with going for style over substance. I wanted something non-obtrusive. The wind up music plays one tune and lasts only 3 minutes. The mobile barely spins. My 2 month old has zero interest in it. I returned this and got a music box style mobile that plays for 20 minutes with several tunes and moving parts and my daughter loves it! Such a difference. As a first time mom, I suggest going with a mobile that is interactive and entertaining because isn't that the point?

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
