Steel Alloy Frame

Steel Alloy Frame Padded with EPS Foam Protects Your Child

The RadianRXT features a steel alloy frame for a strong foundation. Aluminum reinforced side walls and head support are lined with thick, energy absorbing EPS foam for side impact protection. The SafeStop energy absorbing harness provides extra protection for children 20 to 40 pounds. When installed, the harness's bungee-like energy absorption reduces impact when your child is seated in the forward-facing position. Additionally, the RadianRXT boasts rear-facing tether capability to reduce seat rotation in the event of an impact.

Accomodates Growing Children

Versatile Seat Grows With Your Child

The RadianRXT offers the adaptability you need to keep your child's car rides safe and comfortable. The seat fits children in the rear-facing position from 5 to 45 pounds and from 20 to 80 pounds in the forward-facing position. An adjustable, reinforced head support with 12 height settings ensures a custom fit and offers additional side impact safety. With longevity in mind, this model converts to a booster seat for kids up to 120 pounds.

Rear-Facing Position

Deep Seat Design and Plush Cover for a Comfy Ride

All Radian seats have a deep shell to cradle your child for a more comfortable rear-facing ride and to provide a higher rear-facing capacity. A plush cloth surface feels soft against your little one's skin. Expandable sides and a longer seat bottom offer better leg support and help keep children cradled in a custom fit that adapts throughout their physical development. Two forward-facing recline positions allow the RadianRXT to fit a wide variety of vehicle seats. Body support cushions keep infants and babies snug and positioned correctly.

SuperLATCH Installation

SuperLATCH Feature for Secure Installation

Diono's SuperLATCH feature makes use of your car's LATCH system to take advantage of the RadianRXT's full weight capacity.* The SuperLATCH connectors are successfully crash tested for children weighing up to 45 pounds rear-facing and up to 80 pounds forward-facing. In vehicles with LATCH anchors, SuperLATCH is a safe, convenient way to install the RadianRXT. Rubber bottom grips protect your car's upholstery and ensure the seat won't slide after installation.

Compact Design

Slim Profile and Convenient Features

A slim profile means the RadianRXT can sit three across in most vehicles. Because it doesn't have a pedestal, the seat sits relatively low which allows the child to board with ease. The seat folds up when not in use, so storing or transporting the seat is easy. The machine-washable cover and cup holder compatibility (one included, you can add up to four per seat) make this car seat even more convenient.

NCAP Crash Tested

Testing and Warranty Information

This car seat surpasses federal crash test standards and meets NCAP standards, the industry benchmark for verifying child seat performance in severe accident conditions. The RXT is tested at its maximum forward-facing, rear-facing and booster weight capacities and is rated for an impressive 10 years of life. The car seat is also FAA approved for use on airplanes. The Diono RadianRXT Birth to Booster Car Seat is backed by a manufacturer's limited one-year warranty.

Installation was easy for my husband to complete. The car seat is heavy due to the steel frame, but we don't plan to move it among cars or travel on a plane with it much. The shadow color is actually a small pattern in dark gray. We really like it, but I expected more of a solid color from the photo. The seat part and the strap covers are lined in memory foam. I think my daughter is much more comfortable in this seat than her Keyfit30. The low profile sides make it easier for me to scoot her in and out of the seat (she's 13 months and we have it installed in the middle). The tightened strap is a ratchet style. So, instead of pulling till it's snug, you pull repeatedly and it tightens bit by bit. This was strange at first, but now after a week, I really like it. Somehow, it results in a better fit. The straps in her Keyfit30 were always too tight on the hips and too loose on the chest/shoulders. One tip I've found for reducing the number of ratchet pulls is to only loosen the straps a few inches to unstrap the child. There's no need to pull them all the way loose.

Overall, I love this car seat. It will fit my tall daughter rear facing for years (we're shooting for 4) and seems to be comfortable to sit in. The look is very stylish and European to me. We joke that it's her race car seat. I was originally considering this seat and the Chicco NextFit. I'm glad I chose this one. The NextFit looks (to me) like a baby bucket with its high sides, and it has the same strap design that didn't fit my daughter as well.

Very happy with my purchase!

I did a lot of research prior to buying the next step up of car seat from the infant carriers. Everything you research tells you that the Diono Radian is, indeed, one of the major players and is highly rated. However, there are a few areas that the company can improve upon, as with any car seat. I purchased this car seat based on all of my safety research and the fact that it's a 3-in-1, plus the slimmer design. Here are my detailed findings:

Slim design
Steel frame for extra safety
3-in-1 so you only need this seat
Folds flat for carrying like a backpack - you'll need to purchase carrying straps

Won't be ideal in every car
Very tall in comparison to others - most other car seats seem to be shorter and wider
Must purchase a few extras to make it ideal
Chest straps aren't easily adjusted
Head wings/rest doesn't lower much
Can't purchase in-store so you must purchase online - can't try it out first
Instructions don't have a trouble-shooting section for common questions/issues

When we first received this car seat we were super excited and I was positive I had made the right choice! Initially, we put it together pretty easily and understood the parts. Installation was a little more troublesome. We tried to install it in both a 2013 Ford Taurus and 2006 Chevy Equinox. Both cars had quite a few latch options and this is where we got confused. When we first installed it it seemed very loose even after a lot of stepping on the seat and tightening. We later found out that we must use the 2 latch hooks that are the closest together to get a tighter install. After we figured that out it seemed quite a bit more stable. I would also recommend tethering the seat when rear-facing because it is very tall and this will stable it more. Now, this seat is best in my Equinox SUV. It doesn't do well in the Taurus because that car is less roomy and it seems like the seat is too tall and/or is too close to the back of the front seats even when used with the angle adjuster. I will also recommend if you purchase this seat you should definitely purchase the angle adjuster otherwise no matter what car it's installed in rear-facing it will be so close to the back of the front seats that the driver will be uncomfortable. The angle adjusters aren't expensive, but again, it's an additional purchase to an already expensive seat. So we finally got it installed the way we like it in my SUV with angle adjuster and tethering in place in the rear-facing position. Now we realize that the chest straps must be adjusted when we tried out my son in the seat. Adjustment should be done prior to taking your first ride because this takes some getting used to. It's not as easy and intuitive as when we were using his infant carseat. So after we got the straps adjusted correctly we tried adjusting the head wings/rest. My son is at the stage (1 year old) where he's no longer an infant, but he's also not able to have his head reach the head rest just yet. Therefore, he doesn't really have a great option for side support until he gets a little bit taller. With all that being said, we used this a few times and it was sturdy and safe. BUT... after we had to purchase a shorter, wider seat for the Taurus we quickly realized that other seats seem just as safe, but the head support, installation, and chest straps seemed easier to work with. So after giving it some thought we decided to return this seat and get 2 of the Chicco Nextfit seats. These are the newest players in the convertible car seat arena and they really did get it right on the first try. I really wish the Diono Radian could work on the head rest and chest straps a bit more. It would also be nice if they included a trouble-shooting section in the back of their instruction manual for common questions and issues. Most of our trouble-shooting had to be done via the internet and youtube videos from other customers.

Only callout it's a heavy car seat, otherwise it is the most practical and only car seat needed. I would recommend a infant carrier though when baby is little just for convenience

Comments about Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat - Shadow:

We bought this with 3rd child on the way. After trying multiple carseats this was the only one to fit with our other 2 car seats, one infant Chico, and other convertible evenflo. Very good quality, easy for my 3 year old to get in and out of. Only con is its heavy and takes up lots of driver side space if using it rear facing.

Comments about Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat - Shadow:

Works great. My child is comfortable as she has already taken a handful of naps in the car since installing it. Only thing if the seat is intended to use the foam block/ adjuster it should probably come with one. However I have read that people end up ordering more after only a few months as it will flatten and so I ended up using a sturdy cotton rug folded to give the same affect to lift the seat up & so far its doing the trick. Either way I would buy this seat again for my next child.

Easy Install, Very Secure

By Christy

Comments about Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat - Shadow:

I bought this to replace my expired Britax Marathon. I have a 2015 Ford Explorer and use the latch with tether on the side seat (this would not fit in the middle row middle seat without blocking access to other seat belts). I love this seat and have two other boosters in the same row (Bubble Bum and Graco). The seat is very secure and my son seems to enjoy it more than he did the Britax. Two things I feel are worth mentioning, 1) in my explorer you could not fit three of these across and you cannot fit two regular sized boosters in the same row with this seat, 2) this seat sits lower than the britax so my son cannot see out the window as much but he is able to get in his seat on his own. Overall, this is a great car seat! And side note, my son threw up all over his seat and it was very easy to take the cover off and wash the seat. The cover also washed very well.

3 across and comfortable!

By MamaBruff

Comments about Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat - Shadow:

We bought this after reading a review on Carseats For the Littles about 3 across in a Honda CR-V. With a third baby due soon, we needed just that in our CR-V. Our FF 4 year old is now in a Diono R120 as is our RF 2 year old. The kids love them and are comfortable. My husband was able to install them really well, as was confirmed when we had a CPST check the install. We love the safety reputation of Dionos and fit for our vehicle. So far the only struggle is that the harness just doesn't snug as securely as our previous carseats, though it passes the "pinch" test at the collar bone and the CPST checked both our kids buckled in and assured us they are tight enough... it isn't easy to get them secure like I like. For our 2 year old, the longer pads for the harness straps are just too big and we wish the shorter ones were included with the purchase as now we have to figure out how to get them for her. Other than these two things, we are pleased with our purchase.

Low profile and extended rear facing

Comments about Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat - Shadow:

My oldest son has been in his diono since he was about a year. He's 2.5 now, in the 97th percentile for height and still rear facing. We recently purchased the RAT for my now 6 month old. He no longer screams when we get in the car, which is reason enough for 5 stars. We put the seats neXT to each other and there is room for my 6 foot 1 husband to sit next to them.

Comments about Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat - Shadow:

We were looking for a convertible car seat for our youngest who is almost 1. We wanted something with the best safety rating, best features, and something that would last a while seeing how all top quality convertible car seats are pricey. It was between the Diono, Chicco, and Britax. The Britax and Diono are the only 2 made with steel instead of plastic so that narrowed it down right away. The Diono is not as wide as the Britax so it can easily fit in the back of my husbands SUV where previously we were not able to fit a car seat and 2 boosters for our 3 children. The Diono makes it possible to fit along with the 2 boosters. The home run factor was that the Diono, besides from being a rear and front facing convertible car seat, it also converts in to a backed booster which will save us money in the long run. At first it looks overwhelming to install but actually isn't. There's just a lot of extra straps etc for when you convert it to the other stages. It is wicked heavy though so you may want to consider buying two if you don't want to have to move the one from car to car. Also, it comes with the slanted piece for rear facing, and fits perfectly in my Kia Sedona. I didn't need to buy the foam piece that I read about possibly needing in other reviews.

Comments about Diono Radian RXT Convertible Car Seat - Shadow:

I have bought this car seat a month ago for my 8 month old. I loved it so much that I replace my 4 & 2 year olds car seats with this product as well. They are all happy now that they can all sit next to eachother in are van. As well as they are very sturdy seat which my children are extremely comfortable in. I dont find my four year olds head hanging all the way over anymore as in her other seat. Over all I would recommend this product to anyone. So happy with my purchase!
