R Us took me on a trip to memory lane. This was my most loved toy as a child. I had an instant emotional reaction.

The recommended minimum age of the Fisher Price record player is 18 months, but I purchased this for my three-month old. The good thing about an item like this is a baby can listen to the sounds without playing with it directly.

What I like about this toy is children don't get to experience anything like a record player. This is important for understanding of history and progression of technology. Even Hard-drives and CDs work in a similar fashion.

As a child I used to love putting the five records in the back and carrying it around with the carry handle. I wanted my son to have the same experience that I had myself.

This record player is not designed the same as the original. The look is exactly the way I remember but it is not the same the way it works. The old records had bumps that rotated the various sections of the head to make the noise, and as such worked completely as a wind-up toy. This modern toy does wind up to rotate the record but uses batteries and digital recording to produce the sound.

This is a great toy because of the emotional connection and being able to share the experience. Had this item work exactly the same as the original and wind up I would have given this a 5 star rating. All this being said modern learning toys are designed with more playing fun, and this is a great item just because of the experience

My husband and I were very excited to buy this for our 1 year old for Christmas and if our budget had allowed we would have purchased the whole line of retro toys(we also purchased the phone). Our little girl loved it but keep in mind that she is 1, a few days after Christmas she pulled it off the sofa and hit our laminate floor and that was it! It no longer plays music, the turn table still turns but no music. We took it apart and everything but nothing helped. We also didn't understand the battery issue, if it used to be made with a real music box then it would make sense that it wouldn't work but it's not it's an electrical panel! It just doesn't make sense that it wouldn't work. We paid $30 for this, I understand that it fell but I feel for what we paid it should still work. We are disappointed and havent' thrown it away yet in hopes that one day it will magically work again, that and our daughter likes to put the records on and off. We are considering buying another one but I would like it to be on sale!

Comments about Basic Fun Inc Fisher-Price Classics Record Player:

I was very excited to see this toy back on the market, with the improved record holding compartment, now with a cover. I bought two of the record players, for 2 of my grandsons.
Problems: 1. It is difficult to click the records into place, even for an adult.
2.The need to continually use a wind up function at the side of the toy is annoying. In this day and age, there should have been a way to eliminate the need for wind-up
        3. The on-off function and the volume control is underneath the record player, rather than in an accessible position.
        4. There is a third mechanism to use-a switch at the top of the record player.
One simple toy-3 operating mechanisms on 3 different sides of the toy and a problem getting records into position.
I am sorry I bought these toys.
My suggestion to Fisher Price is to fix these problems. My suggestion to customers is to refrain from buying the toy until they do.

The compartment that you store the records in is a great place. For $30 I wouldnt waste my money on it.

This is bad knock-off of the original. The real music box has been replaced very cheap electronics. My son got 3 plays out of it before it was broken. After contacting Fisher Price, they claim to not even make this product and we should contact the company that does

When I saw one of my own favorite childhood toys back on the shelves, I had to have it for my daycare kids. Was disappointed how pricey it was but bought it anyhow. My kids have found as well as myself that you have wind it a lot to keep it playing. That bores them and it's not that easy for little four-year old hands. Probably wouldn't buy it again if I had it to do all over again.
