The good part: it has a monkey bar set, which my kids love, the price was about what people were asking for used on [@], and it had enough swings for all 4 kids at the same time. The not so great part: the wood is stained pine, not redwood, so it wears in the sun and weather and will need re-weather proofing. And the chalkboard thing is a joke - we got a piece of wood and painted it with the chalkboard spray paint- works much better and give you a better sense of the kids aren't going to accidentally fall through it. If you're going to buy this do yourself a few favors when you first get it- right out of the box get a measuring tape and measure and label every single piece of wood and mark and separate every bolt and nut and washer. I put the hardware in zip lock baggies with the "A3" sort of label to it for ease of finding it when actually putting it together. Doing this helped a great deal and without having done this, this would have been an exercize in extreme frustration because all the pieces look alike. Also- follow the directions VERY carefully. The pictures aren't great and can be confusing. Avoid having a father in law help you by reading them to you and thus missing a step along the way. If you get to the end with wood left over, you missed a step. Don't skip the staking it to the ground step, either -this puppy is pretty light and kids swinging will make it unstable much less a good wind storm. They include the steaks, use them. As I said- if you have wood unused at the end, you missed a step. Lastly- after a month go back and re-tighten all the screws, the wood seems to shrink a bit here and the screws needed tightening. We've had ours for 18 months now and it's been worth every penny we paid for it.

This swing set is a good deal for the price. I happen to have gotten it on clearance ($100 off) and had a $100 coupon. The model I have is slightly different then the current one shown. The sand box is slightly smaller and the roof canopy is a little different. I built this by myself. I only used help from a friend to move the tower into place. From start to finish it took me about 14 hours to build. I built a few steps each night after work. I probably could have done it in a little less time if i just built it in one shot. I spent about and hour separating all the wood and hardware. I didn't have many problems with the wood not being labelled. All you really need is a tape measure and you'll be fine. The instructions are pretty good. Had a couple of boards that had to be spun around but nothing too major. I did however have 3 of the corner post 2x4's for the tower that were warped. I called the manufacturer and they required pictures of the problem pieces. Their server is a joke. Couldn't get the pictures to open on their end of the e-mail. Finally they just said forget the pictures and sent me new boards. One of which was warped. I took the best ones and continued building. My yard isn't very level, so it took a little extra time to get it perfect. Definitely use the ground stakes or it will rock. Just as the other reviews have said, the "chalkboard" is a joke. Just a piece of vinyl tarp. Will replace with wood and chalkboard paint when it rips. I don't expect the roof tarp to last more than couple of years. I see a wood roof in it's future. The wood is definitely not weather proof. Will probably need to be re-stained ever couple of years. Overall I think this play set will last its 10 year warranty with a little TLC and was worth the [$] spent on it.

Comments about Big Backyard 1009842 1009842 Claremont Wood Gym Set:

Bought this for my 2 children. Took about 2 days of work to put together on my own. They love it. Couple of things - after putting it together and letting them play on it for a week, there was a lot of creaking, and I had to go around and retighten everything. The included stakes are made of VERY soft wood, and I'm keeping a close eye on them. The sandbox has been the biggest disappointment. First, it's very shallow, so would not give a lot of depth for digging. Second; well, see the service comments. Short version - Toys R Us sells sandboxes, including this one, but doesn't carry play sand and can't suggest any place on island that does.

Comments about Big Backyard 1009842 1009842 Claremont Wood Gym Set:

I read the other reviews and took their suggestions.
I weather-proofed the wood first. After it dried I organized it prior to building to save time.
The directions are often confusing. It helped to look ahead at the next steps.
Somone recommended having 2 drills. That would have been nice, but not something we had. We were constantly unscrewing the drill bit and putting in the screw bit (and vise versa).
The girls were definitely excited to play on the swing set. As they pumped higher on the swings we noticed the entire upper house frame rocks back and forth when they swing. That could be because our lot has a slight slope. We bought 2 additional 2x4's and screwed them in to the lower frame between the swing and slide for additional stability. That helped.
The green ABC chalk tarp is a joke. I don't trust 9 screws and a tarp to keep any child from falling out of the opening. So we bought an additional piece of wood to screw in behind the green ABC tarp for security.
The screws that hold the slide do not fit far enough below the plastic lip so we bought screw covers to prevent scratches from the screws.
Overall, it's a good swing set for our kids ages(4 and 6 years).

Purchased for my two grandsons after shopping the big box lumberyards in the area who had no idea what they were trying to sell. Set up in less than 10 hours with my son-in-law. Had every wood and metal part. Easy step by step instructions.
Recommend laying out all wood pieces and parts prior to starting. Take an inventory from the set up sheet and then follow step by step directions. The product is extremely sturdy and of good quality. Definitely would recommend for those wanting good quality and budget minded2

Organization is key. We had no problem with labels or unmarked wood pieces.. LAy everything out first. Get a gameplan together. Took us 6 hours the 1st day, redoing 2 sections, just poor mis communication, and about 5 hours the next day. Overall was not as bad as I thought it would be. It did say yellowside up on instructions for tarp but looks like I did that backwards. Also there is no handle for the rock wall, s if they climb up there is not anything to grab, wil have to purchase that at local hardware store. Chalk board is a joke but Im pleased with everything.

We recently bought this swingset for our 2 girls and after MUCH searching this was the one that seemed the most easonably priced and had decent reviews. It took my husband and friend about 9-10 hours to put together. Some of the directions were a little confusing but for the most part not too bad. Our daughters LOVE this set and i would recommend it to a friend !!!

Comments about Big Backyard 1009842 1009842 Claremont Wood Gym Set:

I put this swingset together by myself in two days. A total of about 10 hours work time. Just as the other reviews stated spend time to count and organize all nuts and bolts. Stack the wood in piles by size. This will make it so much faster to find the right boards. I also had a shallow box but you could use anything, and I put all of the bags of bolts and screws and nuts in the box with the numbers on the bags facing up so that when I went to get one it was quick to find. Make sure you get a spot you keep all of the tools you need so your not going all over the yard looking for a specific tool. There are different size sockets that you need so have them ready. The directions are 90 percent accurate and most of the assembley goes smooth, however there are some minor things that are left out such as the correct side of a board to attach. I remember having to redo a board because the hole in the middle was 31 inches from on end and 28 inches from the other. In the directions it made no reference to this being an issue and from just looking at the board you would not know the hole was off, but if you have the board turned the wrong way something will not line up a few steps down the line. Just make sure you look at the diagrams and read the comments about hole locations and measure everything. The double boards with brackets that hold the swings is very confusing as to the hole placement and bracket location so study that carefully. The wood is definately soft so do not skip the steps of drilling pilot holes before you screw in your bolts and screws. If something does not fit just right do not force it or even use a rubber mallet unless it is very slight because the wood will split very easy. I had to use my sander on a few of the playhouse floorboards to get them to fit. Overall it looks really nice in the yard and my 3 year old little girl thinks its the best thing since Dora so thats all that matters. I would have given it Five stars but with the directions and a few boards coming split in the box I will give it four stars. Just get the two year replacement for anything that cracks.

This was a gift for our 4 children from there grandparents. Well the first thing we noticed was that the wood is very soft. As we were putting it together several peices of the wood cracked. So that and with the amount of time it took to put it together was very frustrating. For the amount of money they paid for it we all expected for it to be a little better quality then what we got.

This swing set is great. My 4 year old loves it! I wanted a nice wood swing set, but couldn't afford the $1500 ones, so this was an excellent alternative. Other reviews I read said that the pieces were not numbered correctly and it took a long time to put together. That was not the case for us! It only took my husband and his friend 4.5 hours to put together. Directions were a little confusing, but not that difficult to understand. Great swing set for the money!!
