Usually I do not leave comments but always read them and use Their input for my purchases. When I was buying my first moniter I found shopping very difficult because everyone hated or loved a certain monitor. Thought I would write a review of what I believe to be a decent monitor for average usage. This is our second monitor the previous monitor (Graco) held on for as long as it could. About 11 months in it could not hold a charge and only transmitted static. Purchased this monitor as a replacement. Yes it is silent when there is no movement (no white noise) but picks up instantly. Was a bit nervous at first but after repeated attempts to fool it, it always picked up a whisper. The reception is amazing and absolutely NO static. Enjoy the room tempature feature and 2 way intercom. The only reason I gave this moniter a 4 was there is no battery back up so if the power goes out so does the receiver. However if there is an outage the parent unit beeps to identify that there is a problem. I would recommend this monitor with the Purchasers knowledge that there is a (No white noise) feature.

We purchased this product in the hopes that it would be "quieter" than our current monitor. Needless to say we got what we were asking for. My spouse and I sleep in a room just adjacent of the baby's room.
Out of the box it did take some tinkering with to get used to messing with the configurations on the parental units. So far so good...
Until we decided to test the sensitivity. It is just like the other reviews say, the parental units stay whisper quiet unless the baby makes a loud noise... and I do mean a considerable amount of noise.
We tested it very simply, one in the baby's room and one in our bedroom. To me the "high sensitivity" in this unit's microphone was lacking... putting it mildly. It didn't pick up any of my loud "whispers" in fact it didn't even pick up anything until I talked in a normal tone.
No where does it say that it cuts on and off in the manual we have. When there is a noise that is loud enough to activate the parental units, the parental units will then pick up EVERYTHING, Eureka! We fixed it... not quite.
The parental units would only remain active for what we timed out to 10 seconds, if no sound was made then the parental unit would then revert back to its silent counter-part.
Long story short we took it back because our Sony baby monitor that cost a third of this one picks up everything, and that is what mom likes (she likes to be able to wake up and be able to hear the baby breathing to know everything is alright).
We'll just deal with the mild interference and the noise that we get from it from time to time than continue to wonder if the baby is asleep or not with this product.
I would have liked the product much better if maybe it had two different reception modes (something like what I've described above).

For parents:
If you're not interested in hearing every little sound and only the cries of you distraught baby (whatever the reason may be), then this is a great baby monitor that has great features for a "reasonable" price.
If you're a (new) mom who is constantly needing to hear the baby breathing or any little noises that he/she may make then make every effort to avoid purchasing this monitor! (Our little girl would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and start playing in her crib, but when she plays she either makes very little or no noise at all, and we wouldn't find out until we would go and check on her and see her on her hands and knees crawling around her crib! An issue we never ran into with our previous monitor...)

Comments about Motorola Inc Motorola MBP16-2 Digital Audio Baby Monitor & Two Parent LCD Display Units:

We used the monitor in our old home with thick plaster walls. We used it in our nursery and would wear the parent unit around the house while the baby napped.

It worked great for us - until our unit lost power for a few days due to weather related power outage... then our parent unit would not link to the baby unit. All it would do is turn on and beep continuously with a warning of 'not linked' on the display.

I called Motorola who informed me that once the unit loses power (all power with completely dead battery) it will most likely not ever link together again, thus making the monitors USELESS!

We are just outside of the warranty (1 year) so they are unable to help me even though the only issue with our unit is one that is due to their own design.

Bottom line is don't waste your money on this or any other Motorola product. As a company they do not stand by the product even when they admit they are aware their own design is the cause of the issue. We will not ever purchase a Motorola product for our home and are now looking at other brands to replace this product.

I live in a split level townhouse and the nursery is upstairs with the main unit. When I would play music for her in her room, I found the monitor actually would go in and out (one second I would hear the music and then it would shut off for a minute.) I feel like if something were to actually happen, the monitor could be shut off for that moment. I feel like if you live in a one-story house it would be fine though. But it's not for me. If I hadn't received it as a gift it would go straight back with complaints. The only thing I like is keeping an eye on the temperature and the fact I can talk back to her in her room.

For the most part the monitors do the job. I have found that the second I step out my front door (to check the mail, get my husband in the garage, etc) it loses the signal. I'm confined to the inside of my home only. Also, it will randomly lose the signal within feet of the main monitor and start beeping (awesome in the middle of the night...). I would recommend trying a different product and save yourself some money...

Comments about Motorola Inc Motorola MBP16-2 Digital Audio Baby Monitor & Two Parent LCD Display Units:

This monitor was a gift off our registry and work ok for only a few months. It would lose the connection to the main monitor from time to time at first (of course in the middle of the night and wake us all up) but at about 5 months into using it the monitor lost the connection and would not link back up. At the time my daughter was teething and I was rarely using the monitor anyways so I packed it up and figured I would have to find the manual and figure out how to re-link them when baby #2 came along. At this point I assumed I just didn't know how to work them and it was a fixable problem I mean I barely used them. Well baby #2 came along quicker than I thought and I recently pulled them back out only to remember they don't link up! So I called Motorola since I didn't know where I put the instructions. According to the rep this is a KNOWN issue and CAN NOT be fixed! Yes that's right they will never re link so they are broken for good. The rep said they get calls often about this model!!!! So of course I am very upset because had I of known that the problem was because of poor quality I would have taken the item back immediately. So now it's been a year and Babies R Us only wants to replace it for the same monitor. Why would I want the same monitor that according to the manufacturer is a devise that commonly breaks oh and the rep said they were not sure why or how it happens it just does often! I have spoken to the store and now customer relations as well and am waiting for a call back to see if they will allow me to get a credit towards a different monitor one that I hope is of better quailty! So my real question is with so many complaints online under the reviews and Motorola owning up to the poor quailty of the item so transparently why would Babies R Us continue to sell such an item!!!! Not to mention try to tell a loyal customer there is a 45 day return policy on electronics!!!! It's a quality issue that should be resolved not at the customers expense regardless of when the item was bought!

This monitor worked great for 7months - we had it on day and night - until we went on a family vacation and unplugged it to take with us. Once plugged back in - lost link between base and parent units. Upon research to trouble shoot found it to be a known and common problem.

Quality? Really? Horrible device. Wouldnt recommend this to anyone!! STAY AWAY. Waste of Money in my opinion.
