The doll is ok. I hate the way the dolls are packaged now. Instead of the old twist ties, they use the plastic tabs that are built in to the doll's head. So you cut them as short as possible, but the doll has plastic "prongs" sticking out of her head. But this is true of Barbie dolls as well. Cheaper quality than 20 years ago.

My 10 year old really likes the doll. She specifically wanted the bow and arrow, but would have liked a set with the horse too; bow and arrow won out. She does not like that Merida's knees do not bend, so when she "borrows" her little sister's Angus horse, her doll does not stay on him. However, she really likes the cape and the gems for decorating! The gems do not stay on well during "rough" play, but are fine when gentle.

Not the Best Merida Doll

The Mattel princess dolls are never that good quality. This applies for their Merida dolls as well.

While this doll might satisfy a young kid, others would be disappointed. The facial features do not resemble the actual character at all. All appendages are hard and cannot be bent. Mattel uses the hollow, hard plastic legs that they use for their cheaper Barbies and princesses.

The clothes and accessories of this doll are also not very good in the sense that they only passably resemble those she wears in the movie. The bow and arrow are useless and the velcro "jewels" the toy comes with do not stick for long.

The hair of this doll is great, though, after a bit of brushing. Messing the curls up a little makes the hair prettier.

I would not recommend this doll. If you can get them, the Disney made dolls are much better quality (they look like the character and have bendable arms and legs. The clothes are a great replication of the actual outfit in the movie.) and do not feel nearly as cheap as the Mattel dolls do.

This is still good to get for a young kid who would not mind the looks.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
