To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together." The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

I received this as a 30th birthday gift, I have been building since I was 5 years old. There are a lot of pieces. A brick separator tool is included. It took about 4 hours at a leisurely pace to build this model. The flight control surfaces move, and despite a previous reviewer's comments the surfaces do move correctly, I should know I am a certified flight instructor and professional airline pilot. The value is incredible and it is sturdy enough to play with as long as the person doing the playing is not too rough with the aircraft. I highly recommend this model for any LEGO, aviation, or model enthusiast.

I liked the overall build of the plane and the concept but while building it I found a design flaw. The connecting piece for the joystick and the rear wings is too short. I thought it was just mine that had a flaw but I went to the lego store and looked at their build and it was the same problem. When connecting the cord for the rear wings with the joystick piece it pushes the joystick completely forward. In other words it makes the joystick and movement of it completely useless. A plane that can't maneuver. Lego should have caught this before they released it. Disappointed. Try again Lego. I can't recommend it for the reason it doesn't work.

Really Excellent Build

By sbradnam

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

A really detailed and accurate model has appeared at the end of this great Lego build with my 20 year-old son! Clever detail, great engineering techniques, and a stunning finished product, make this one of the best we have done for some time. One to display rather than play. Great value for money compared with some sets - very highly recommended.

Just Amazing!

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

Easily the best Lego kit I have ever built. The 900 parts feels like double that due to the interesting build, huge satisfying pieces and size of the final model. The spring loaded suspension is a lovely feature, the fully working control surfaces (controlled by the flight stick in the cockpit no less!) are fantastic and the rotating radial engine a joy to build. The final model is satisfyingly large and just looks stunning. Whoever designed this one needs a bonus for the build too - this is a Lego kit that excels both in the final product and the interesting build that uses many different pieces and techniques and has that wow factor where you start putting together all the secvtions you have made to see the final model come to life. Have given a 4 for playability as I am not sure this kit is really intended as a play kit, though the working control surfaces have not gotten old yet. Feels more like a display kit though and could really have done with one of those nice plaques you get with the UCS Star Wars sets. Would reccomend this kit to everyone.

Really Fun

By FootballKing

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

I got this for Christmas and did not expect to have as much fun with it as I did. I didn't do it for a few days but finally started. My dad used to be a pilot so he was really excited. We started and it turned out really fun. We built it over 3 days but with many breaks. So in total I would say it took us 5-6 hours. I would recommend this product to anyone because it was really fun and very interesting.

Excellent Build And Display

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

I am a father and had my wife buy this as a Christmas present for me so my daughter and I had a Lego project other than Friends. I loved the build, she loved it. This was intended for display purposes. I was shocked at the few missing pieces, rarely happens and we have the complete Friends collection. I was also surprised the bags weren't numbered but that must be how it is for the older age group sets. Totally fine, just never seen that before. It was great fun. We just received the VW Bus yesterday and plan on working on that this weekend.

Awesome Airplane

By Colson

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

This is an awesome Lego set, they did a very good job with this one. I got this for Christmas and I built it the day after. There were a few tricks in building the kit, but it wasn't too difficult. The rotating propeller/rotary engine and workable control surfaces are awesome affects. If you are a good Lego builder and appreciate airplanes or history, I highly recommend this kit.

Sopwith Camel

By jer2900

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

This build is a blast from the past! I remember building the original one and the Red Baron. This set is even better! The ailerons and elevators actually move when the stick is moved, and the colors are also really neat. The wings are very strong, and there is a lot of attention to detail in this set. I had a great time building it. If you have either of the others, then you definitely need to add this to your collection!

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

This is a great set to build. As a fan of military aircraft and lego this was like the best thing. Overall the set was built with a good design. I liked the use of the rare-ish green pieces as this makes the set go up in value.

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

If your reading this you are probably interested in buying this set and I will let you know that this set I showing to be put on the retiring list very soon so get one why you can now the review. I got this set from Lego.com came here in about five days which is great I immediately started sorting out the pieces which takes about 30 minutes. This build was quite challenging which made it fun I thought that the string would be very difficult and complicated but it did not. The build is extremely fun and classic and the best part is looking at it complete. The flaps function like the actual Sopwith Camel which is awesome. It's really nice that there was not very many stickers which was helpful. The engine is extremely detailed the engine is large like the real one. The stickers on the top flaps are British Royal Air Force logos. The guns on the front are a very nice touch overall this is just a fun challenging detailed classic set and my personal favorite for 2012-2013 and I highly recommend getting before it retires.
