To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together." The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

I received this as a 30th birthday gift, I have been building since I was 5 years old. There are a lot of pieces. A brick separator tool is included. It took about 4 hours at a leisurely pace to build this model. The flight control surfaces move, and despite a previous reviewer's comments the surfaces do move correctly, I should know I am a certified flight instructor and professional airline pilot. The value is incredible and it is sturdy enough to play with as long as the person doing the playing is not too rough with the aircraft. I highly recommend this model for any LEGO, aviation, or model enthusiast.

Excellent model

By tabc59

from St. Louis

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

I am a fan of the sets based off of real life objects, such as this and the Tower bridge. I have to say this model has an excellent design. I really like the color scheme, and the functionality of the flaps and the propeller. I bought this purely as a display set, and I don't plan on playing with it, but it does seem sturdy enough to be played with. I wish LEGO would make more planes so that I could add them to my collection.

Snoopy's Favorite Game.

By armadillosandwich

from McKinney

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

My brother's friend got this not too long ago and we all went over to help him build it. Even with the three of us, it took a couple hours. The plane is a collectible, a UCS. It's for display, not play. Expect to zoom it around for a minute using both hands when you've finished, but other than that it's just about it. Snoopy will have to keep using the dog house to be the World War I Flying Ace. SOPWITH CAMEL: Referred to by my younger brother as the Camel With a Sock. The plane itself has a few features, including rotating propeller and tail fins that can be controlled from the cockpit. To make this all happen, it's actually a pretty complicated build, since so many strings and techninc pieces are involved with the inner workings (which is why I now consider myself an expert LEGO builder, I've been helping friends build some pretty large sets lately, and there's always the Death Star sitting in my room to consider). It's a cool set to get, just know it's for display. OVERALL: Not an incredibly terrible price range, given that it's big and it's a collector's item. Just make sure collector is what you are. If your little kid wants a plane, check out LEGO City. Thanks for reading, and be sure to check out my other reviews in Star Wars, Marvel, Lego Ideas, and LOTR/Hobbit sets, and see what you think about a few ideas I have for sets that might be mentioned in a few of the reviews. :)

A Fascinating Model

By PatrickF

from San Antonio

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

I have always enjoyed WWI style biplanes and early 20th century vehicles, but sadly didn't get the chance to see the original model Sopwith Camel from a near decade ago. This model though is indeed one of the funnest ones I've built. The attention to detail is extraordinary and is almost identical to a life-size model. The amount of things I'd change on it are little to none, and believe it's one of the best LEGO sets in my collection. The only thing I ask of LEGO as a whole is to extend this line of combat biplanes or simply antique vehicles. As they know, a vast number of their clients aren't just children, but adults as well. More vehicles like the Red Baron's Fokker Dr. 1, the First Car, a Willy's Jeep, WWII planes, etc would boost sales more than they already are and would attract the attention of other possible customers as well. Otherwise, I loved this set, and think that many collectors, model builders, history lovers, and LEGO fans will love this set. Happy Building!

Very nice detail with some challenging parts of the build. Great color and stickers are worth the effort as they give the plane a very authentic look.

You Gotta Love Snoopy's Ride

By Hadley

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

Most people would agree the Sopwith Camel is an impressive Lego model, and I'm no different. In my opinion, capturing an airplane in Lego is probably one of the hardest design challenges (if not the hardest). Let's face it, bricks and airplanes just don't go together; and if you start using lots of specially molded pieces to recreate the intricate lines and curves of an airplane at some point the model loses its Lego heart and becomes more plastic than studs. This bird has a lot of heart though and when I first finger-turned the prop and heard that scraping noise I found myself hoping for a start. The designer(s) built an admirable representation of a WWI biplane. The color scheme is great. The flight controls work (sort of). The stickers are manageable and the model seems pretty solid. If you're considering this and a fan of early aviation, don't hesitate and get it before it's gone. Here are my nitpicks: 1. Every plane needs a pilot (forgetting the cramped cockpit, this would increase playability even though I know it's more a model for display and just imagine a bad guy/plane to dogfight or just hang from the ceiling). 2. On my build, there isn't much downward movement on the elevator. This has been noted by others also but is minor and there isn't a lot of room in the cockpit for forward stick movement. Assuming my build is correct, this is really a nitpick and I'm happy just to have a functioning stick. Some solutions have been offered but I have not tried yet. 3. There are 8? stickers which add to the model. I had a problem with the two on the top wing and that was more a part problem. Recommend examining the four large green plates. Right in the center there may be excess plastic (not much) where they came off the mold and this may give you a bump/air bubbles under the sticker. A sharp pen knife or razor blade may help if needed. If this isn't an option pick the best two out of the four or forget about it if you like air bubbles. 4. Not a nitpick, always pay attention while building, especially the aft tail section. At one point I also mixed up single stud light and dark gray pieces which resulted in a small rebuild.

Really Excellent Build

By sbradnam

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

A really detailed and accurate model has appeared at the end of this great Lego build with my 20 year-old son! Clever detail, great engineering techniques, and a stunning finished product, make this one of the best we have done for some time. One to display rather than play. Great value for money compared with some sets - very highly recommended.

Just Amazing!

By UberMegatron

from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

Easily the best Lego kit I have ever built. The 900 parts feels like double that due to the interesting build, huge satisfying pieces and size of the final model. The spring loaded suspension is a lovely feature, the fully working control surfaces (controlled by the flight stick in the cockpit no less!) are fantastic and the rotating radial engine a joy to build. The final model is satisfyingly large and just looks stunning. Whoever designed this one needs a bonus for the build too - this is a Lego kit that excels both in the final product and the interesting build that uses many different pieces and techniques and has that wow factor where you start putting together all the secvtions you have made to see the final model come to life. Have given a 4 for playability as I am not sure this kit is really intended as a play kit, though the working control surfaces have not gotten old yet. Feels more like a display kit though and could really have done with one of those nice plaques you get with the UCS Star Wars sets. Would reccomend this kit to everyone.

Really Fun

By FootballKing

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

I got this for Christmas and did not expect to have as much fun with it as I did. I didn't do it for a few days but finally started. My dad used to be a pilot so he was really excited. We started and it turned out really fun. We built it over 3 days but with many breaks. So in total I would say it took us 5-6 hours. I would recommend this product to anyone because it was really fun and very interesting.

Excellent Build And Display

By KIJohn

Comments about LEGO Creator Sopwith Camel (10226):

I am a father and had my wife buy this as a Christmas present for me so my daughter and I had a Lego project other than Friends. I loved the build, she loved it. This was intended for display purposes. I was shocked at the few missing pieces, rarely happens and we have the complete Friends collection. I was also surprised the bags weren't numbered but that must be how it is for the older age group sets. Totally fine, just never seen that before. It was great fun. We just received the VW Bus yesterday and plan on working on that this weekend.
