I simply enjoy this LEGO set, I have very few cons about this set but you did not come here just to read I liked it so here we go. Pros: -Detailed castle pieces -1x1 moss details - Fairly realistic to movie - Fairly firm structure - Easy to interact and play with - Most functions do not detract froms set. - Exquisite stone, rock and moss detailing underneath castle - Great Hall room - Minifigures, good detail and realistic, many nice accesories. - Rohan flags, torches and other ornament features placed often around gives nice touch. - Very decent siege ladder that can latch on to almost all walls in set and is a very interesting piece for those interested in castle era sets. - Extra accesory elements both in great hall and in loose unused pieces. -Decent price Cons: - Deeping wall explosion feature: fun for a few times but afterwards seems to just get in my way - Slightly weak connection between Helm Hammerland tower and front piece, only slight. - Side doors by Gimli catapault feature and by Horn of Helm Hammerland tower are a tad difficult to open - King Theodens armor although amazing does not blend very well with his torso piece and hte back of his shield is red which can also be annoying. Now I would like to talk about the set using a few more words. I overall really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings LEGO line and feel they did a decent job on it. As a person who has enjoyed both the books and movies this was my favorite set. Not only do you get many exclusive figures and important ones to the storyline such as King Theoden, Haldir, Gimli, Aragorn and pretty much all of the figures but you get an amazing fortress that can be used for dilspay, LOTR playing, and also play for any other thing a person could use a fortress for. Fans, collectors and other people may freely place many figures in the fortress. First what I would llike to put out there than only a few whom reviewed it mentioned but for me is one of my favorites is that there is amazing stonework below the fortress on almost all of it that brings it truly to life. I also enjoyed how the walls on the fortress in many areas are rounded which is very difficult to do without a specific set and pieces which is very accurate to castles and fortresses as they were. Of course you get the amazing new horse that is all the rage with the posable legs and detailed face which is an neat addition considering Rohan is associated with horses. The figures are very interesting and I will go on to speak of them individually. Aragorn: Aragorn of course may be a main draw to this set for those who do not wish to by the Weathertop set. He comes with the new broadsword which I am very fond of and also he comes with a torch which I am not too excited about but it is ok. He has very good printing on his torso and legs and he has a double sided face and both faces are well played. He does not have a ridiculous smile on one side and a angry battle cry on the other but two faces that are often used I believe. Gimli: In all serious senses who would not want Gimli in LEGO form? He is also very iconic like Aragorn and I do believe you can only otherwise recieve him in the Mines of Moria lego set. He has two axes a feature in the movies I was afraid LEGO would not put in the set but I am glad they did. For many versions of play I enjoy just the large axe though. His torso although covered by the beard is well done which I appreciate for they did not have to go the extra mile on this one but they did. His small legs are in the dark brown which is good for many for the original dwarves only had light brown and tan legs. His molded beard piece braided in both front in back in a detailed fashion is very interesting and his helmet is outstanding in all ways for it is an entirely different new piece and has solid colors on it making it come to life. Uruk-Kai Warriors (3): These three mighty Urak warriors do not dissapoint. I was afraid they would not do these figures well but they did in the fact that they come in most cases fully armored with shields, swords, glaives, and a wonderful new helmet. Their double sided face has the White Hand on one side with menacing grunts on the mouth and on the other a more calm (if possible with Urak-kai) face without the hand on it. Also we all want the members of the fellowship first but you need these expendable but ferocious villains for them to counter as well as powerful enemy leaders. These serve that purpose. Urak grenade carrier: I was honestly looking forward to this character least when I first saw the set but he has grown on me a ton. He seems from the picture but an extra in the larger background and I wished he was a regular Urak even though there were already three. We all remember him in the movie when he charges with the torch to the mine and blows himself up so he is memorable but not all that exciting when I saw this set included him. He when I built him was actually quite the opposite of what I expected for his appearence brought what the regular Urak warriors could not. He looked genuinely menacing and strong. His appearence alone made him appear as such and he is expressed in strength in a way few others can not be. Give him an Urak sword and position it above his head above a Rohan warrior and feel the power! He also has a nice metal piece on the back printing of his head to protect his vital brain, Although I do not think he needs brainpower to battle. King Theoden: King Theoden as one of my favorites in the books and movies had always carried an iconic appearence. His face is wonderfully transformed into a lego one with both a happy face and a serious face of concentration. He is wearing his vest which he wears in the films and the vest is done quite nicely but will get in the way as he wears his armor for it does not appear that his red arms go on his brownish black armor with gold printing. He includes a great shield with a good symbol on it and the only thing I do not like about it is that the back is red. He also has a broadsword but this can be replaced by a spear if need be. ( 2 swords and 2 spears are in the great hall area) His helmet and armor whcih are black/brown and gold are simply amazing for they show detail, depth and color. Also his leg piece is a good mail armor for his legs appropriate for battle I do not know it is just I expected a little more from him but I am glad just to have him. I advise readers and buyers to swapping out his torso when preparing him for battle, this did the trick for me. Haldir: To be truly honest Haldir is my favorite figure included in this set. I will start off with his bow, I from series minifigure 3 enjoyed the longbow but they have refined it for this set. It is a geat feature and a good piece to have for many purposes. I understand that he cannot have a quiever because of the elven hair but this is fine with me for I prefer it with the hair and without the quiver. The hair as I mentioned is great, It is the same piece as Legolas and has the ears built in and a nice braid on the back. The face is good although I enjoy the one side the other is slightly off touch with me. It is an angry war cry which I understand for some but just think is a tad not useful. Also I just dont see a cool guy like Haldir loosing his cool and screaming in battle for elves are just cool like that you know? Now on to the torso, legs and the cape. The armor is just insanely cool with the red and gold. it is not too over the top but is just perfectly balanced and I honestly cannot really describe it in a good way so just check out his printing on the torso. He does have back printing although not visible due to his long hair. His cape is great, I actually do believe it is a slighlty different cape than those being used often for it is more pliant and is more easily moved and adjusted to the figure and without it the torso and legs would not looks as fine and I feel it is the factor tying things in together. For all of those people that are so keen on saying that Legolas should be here I am not disagreeing with you but Haldir is pretty cool and you have to admit, If you still do not want him you can alter the torso and legs and put the face on a body that is close to Legolas if you wish. I am keeping Haldir as himself though. Other notes: As far as LOTR sets go I feel that hte competition is going to be between this set and hte Mines of Moria, I feel like in the Mine set you will get some great figures that go with the felloship nicely and of course that fantastic cave troll but you will get a not as nice structure that is truly just a few wall pieces strewn together.I feel like some LOTR fans are going to be torn between the structure of Helms Deep or the multiple members of the fellowship in the Mines set. This is an iconic scene in LOTR so I am saying it is better in my eyes but that is my opinion. This is my opinion on this set and I hope you can draw some conclusion from it, I apologize for writing so much and if you read it all than good for you. If you enjoyed this review and thought it was thorough and complete give me a thumbs up, this is my first review. -JaggedGreenSting

Toysrus Prices

What a joke, ToysRus is literally the ONLY mainstream company to raise the price of Legos (10-20%). Go elsewhere.

The product itself is GREAT. Minifigs and all!

Comments about LEGO The Lord of the Rings The Battle of Helm's Deep (9474):

This is the best LEGO set I have ever purchased. It is very nice to play with but even better to set up battles and look at. I love the fact that it looks like real stone and is very realistic. Now to pros and cons: Pros: Looks realistic Is great when combined with Uruk-Hai Attack Exclusive characters Wall blow-up feature Cons: No Legolas 1-2 orcs more and a Rohan soldier would've made it perfect Looks very small without extra set All in all a very good set but don't forget to pick up Uruk-Hai attack for more orcs, Rohan men, ballista and a very needed extra wall piece.

Very complex structure. Nine packets of Legos in this box, 1300+ pieces and my 10 yr old son loved every minute of putting it together. He has played with it for several hours since getting it set up. Very much worth it for this LEGO-intensive household.

Comments about LEGO The Lord of the Rings The Battle of Helm's Deep (9474):

This is a very good LEGO set,and was the largest LOTR one up until the Tower of Orthanc. The set had a decent amount of play features and is the BEST large-scale LEGO playset out there. It could, as always with LEGO, could use more uruk-hai. If you have several uruk army sets you can add those on to make a MUCH more interesting battle scene. The exploding deeping wall was a nice touch, and I think it was a MUST for this set, but the problem is, the wall is ALWAYS falling apart. It defintely need more stability. The largest problem I encounter literally COMPLTELY ruined the set for me, so make sure you avoid making the mistake I did:BE EXTREMELY WARY WHEN YOU MOVE THE FULLY BUILT SET AROUND. When I moved mine, a couple key pieces came off, ruining the structure. But, if you avoid that problem, this set will FOR SURE be worth your puchase.
