Recreate the Sydney Opera House™ a truly iconic landmark, with this LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012) buildable playset!

Introducing the world-renowned Sydney Opera House™. This masterpiece of expressionist architecture is the vision of young Danish architect, Jorn Utzon, whose unique interlocking vaulted 'shell' design beat 933 competitors from 28 countries to win an international design competition held by the New South Wales Government in 1959. Combined with the beautiful setting of Sydney Harbour, the opera house has become a true symbol of late modern architecture and one of the most iconic buildings of the 20th century. This LEGO Architecture series interpretation of the Sydney Opera House was designed by US architect Adam Reed Tucker in collaboration with the LEGO design team.

The LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012) features:
  • Interpretation of real-world architectural landmark Sydney Opera House
  • Booklet included with details on design and history (English language only. Other languages available for download)
  • Measures 4.3" (10.7cm) tall, 6.2" (15.7cm) wide and 2.6" (6.6cm) deep
  • Collect the entire landmark series!
  • LEGO Architecture inspires future architects, engineers and designers as well as architecture fans around the world using the LEGO brick as a medium for reproducing esteemed structures

The Syndey Opera House set is amazing and provides great fun for AFOLs! My wife loves architecture and I have to admit that this set has blown me away as well. With 4 building instruction booklets which can be assembled in parallel, we decided that each of us builds the parts of 2 booklets in parallel. Building in parallel it took us approximately 3 hours to assemble the whole set. If built by a single person, its probably around 6-7 hours build time. The instructions are easy to follow. There are also a number of neat new building techniques included in this set, particularly in the foundation of the smaller white standalone shells at the back of the building. In terms of new LEGO pieces we have not seen elsewhere, there were also a couple new ones in this set. For example black technic pieces with a joint ball on a brick arm with 1 axle and one regular hole. This piece was used to anchor technic bricks with holes onto which the white shells got attached in bricks with ball sockets. Obviously, the construction of the white shells for the roof due their unusual form and angles provided the richest new building experience. Once the individual parts (2 for the foundation, the major shells for the roof, etc.) were built, putting them together was seamless. And the result breathtaking! Its amazing with how much precision the LEGO designers captured the geometry of the real Syndey Opera House in this set. We have it now on display in our living room.

This is number five in the "iconic" sculpture series. Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge - these set the stage - timeless icons. Sydney Opera House is an eyesore in reality - granted that is a personal opinion - cudos to LEGO they have captured "it" well, "it" looks just like the real thing = ugly. WHY? Why not re-create another masterpiece in line with the predecessors - a windmill from NL or a castle from Germany (Neuschwanstein perhaps). … and the majority of LEGO pieces are in this particularly drap tan color,,, This is going back in the box - I will await the next offering...

it was a great set and all but I think for an expert product it was a bit to easy, especially for the price of nearly $400 in Australia.

AS IF I COULD ACTUALLY HEAR THE OPERA

    By ChiTownLegoGuy14

    from Chicago

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

When it comes to building this wonderful piece, it's rather easy. You do have to double check to make sure the roof piece are facing the correct way because if it isn't an actual representation of the real building, it is NOTHING AT ALL. Good piece, looks dope on my shelf, and is priced very reasonably. I cannot wait to one day visit Australia, I plan on honeymooning there.

    Awesome

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

What a great model! The level of detail is fantastic. I had to deliberately stop building so I wouldn't run out :) The only slight downside, if to call it that, are the little grey tiles that come off easily when the halves of the sail are attached to the structure below. But I love the sails and how the different parts fit together so well. It's just like the original! Thank you lego for designing this piece of art :D

    huge

    By wuzzerz

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

I have a lot to say about this model. First of all, it is AWESOME!!! It was a very challenging build so you have to pay extra attention to what piece you are putting where. It is a very detailed model and it is HUGE in size. I am glad they separated the pieces into 4 sections, it made it a lot easier of a build. The price could maybe be $20-40 less because some other sets costs less than this one and they also have more pieces. If you are a baseplate lover like I am, you get a nice 48x48 stud baseplate in blue, along with a 32x32 blue baseplate and a 16x32 blue baseplate. I highly recommend this set to a Lego fan of any type.

    Absolutely stunning!

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

This set is incredible! Easily my favorite and the centerpiece of my collection. So many creative ways of building a very complicated structure, you're just in awe of how they made it. My only complaint is the price. I think it could be a little cheaper by about 20-30 bucks to bring it more in line with other large sets. But if you have the money to spend on this, go buy it! You won't regret it!

    Interesting build

    By Gerico1000

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

Neat set, not cheap but you get what you pay for. I found this a fairly straightforward build that held my interest throughout due to the various different angles, styles and techniques. Pleasing to see the bags numbered in stages so not mountains of Lego to pile through along the way.

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

LEGO is one of the best products on the market for kids of all ages. The instructions are easy to read. This set is for a 12+ kids due to the complexity of the build. I love these kits of real buildings from all over the world. My son is homeschooled, and we do some research on the location and the building itself besides building the Lego models. History, Architecture, Engineering all rolled into a fun way to learn. In this case we can add Music research as well.
