Recreate the Sydney Opera House™ a truly iconic landmark, with this LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012) buildable playset!

Introducing the world-renowned Sydney Opera House™. This masterpiece of expressionist architecture is the vision of young Danish architect, Jorn Utzon, whose unique interlocking vaulted 'shell' design beat 933 competitors from 28 countries to win an international design competition held by the New South Wales Government in 1959. Combined with the beautiful setting of Sydney Harbour, the opera house has become a true symbol of late modern architecture and one of the most iconic buildings of the 20th century. This LEGO Architecture series interpretation of the Sydney Opera House was designed by US architect Adam Reed Tucker in collaboration with the LEGO design team.

The LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012) features:
  • Interpretation of real-world architectural landmark Sydney Opera House
  • Booklet included with details on design and history (English language only. Other languages available for download)
  • Measures 4.3" (10.7cm) tall, 6.2" (15.7cm) wide and 2.6" (6.6cm) deep
  • Collect the entire landmark series!
  • LEGO Architecture inspires future architects, engineers and designers as well as architecture fans around the world using the LEGO brick as a medium for reproducing esteemed structures

The Syndey Opera House set is amazing and provides great fun for AFOLs! My wife loves architecture and I have to admit that this set has blown me away as well. With 4 building instruction booklets which can be assembled in parallel, we decided that each of us builds the parts of 2 booklets in parallel. Building in parallel it took us approximately 3 hours to assemble the whole set. If built by a single person, its probably around 6-7 hours build time. The instructions are easy to follow. There are also a number of neat new building techniques included in this set, particularly in the foundation of the smaller white standalone shells at the back of the building. In terms of new LEGO pieces we have not seen elsewhere, there were also a couple new ones in this set. For example black technic pieces with a joint ball on a brick arm with 1 axle and one regular hole. This piece was used to anchor technic bricks with holes onto which the white shells got attached in bricks with ball sockets. Obviously, the construction of the white shells for the roof due their unusual form and angles provided the richest new building experience. Once the individual parts (2 for the foundation, the major shells for the roof, etc.) were built, putting them together was seamless. And the result breathtaking! Its amazing with how much precision the LEGO designers captured the geometry of the real Syndey Opera House in this set. We have it now on display in our living room.

This is number five in the "iconic" sculpture series. Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge - these set the stage - timeless icons. Sydney Opera House is an eyesore in reality - granted that is a personal opinion - cudos to LEGO they have captured "it" well, "it" looks just like the real thing = ugly. WHY? Why not re-create another masterpiece in line with the predecessors - a windmill from NL or a castle from Germany (Neuschwanstein perhaps). … and the majority of LEGO pieces are in this particularly drap tan color,,, This is going back in the box - I will await the next offering...

    Awesome, But...

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

I LOVED everything about this whole build and experience. However, I still fell as if 320$ was a little much for it. But it still looks amazing and very fun (and challenging) to build

      Must Have for the Collector

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

I bought this as a Christmas present for my partner and she was so excited to build it. We collect all sorts of Legos and already have the Tower Bridge. This set is very impressive in size and structure. It's exactly like the real Sidney Opera House. The lines are clean and the base is very sturdy. I highly recommend this set for any Lego collector. It looks great and takes a while to build.

      Good Expert entry level build

      By AvalonsRise

      from London

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

I'm just coming to the end of the build with the final Sail Section requiring assembly. In total will have taken me about 9-10 hours to complete, though I don't sort the pieces just dump them onto a surface. For an expert set its a fairly straight forward build and I would probably mark it as an upper Advanced build. If you are planning on building this ensure you have some where large enough to store it.

        Fantastic

        By LucasSteuber

        from Portland

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

I own (I think) every LEGO architecture released, and this is probably tied with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in terms of the sheer creativity that the designers employed. I'm shocked that so much detail in terms of curves and angles are incorporated in this model given its small size. It's obviously a pretty unique structure, but to capture it so accurately and elegantly with (relatively) few pieces is a true work of art. I enjoy both owning this piece to look at it as well as owning it as a great example of what can be accomplished within the LEGO medium with a bit of creativity and a small number of tools. That's the whole idea, right? To see how you can defy the conventions of the brick system and make something that appears truly novel and organic? The designers nailed it on this one. Very impressive.

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

I am so thrilled that Lego finally figured out those angles for the shells. It is enormous. There are a lot of small detailing. From this set, you get a lot of tan bricks, plates, tiles, slopes and different sizes of base plates. The instructions make the build easy to follow. You have to get this set.

          5th Architecture Model

          By Kelmoomoo

          from Derbyshire

Comments about LEGO Architecture Sydney Opera House (21012):

As expected enjoyment was had building this model. It took about an hour to build and the instructions are well planned out and easy for all ages to follow. The only issue that was had with this particular model was with the curved shells pieces that go on the top; they keep popping off especially when they were touched so after several attempts at putting them on without touching any other piece the curved shell sections have stayed on and it has now put it on show with the rest of the LEGO models we own.
