Most inportant to me was the set came with enough track to make several designs. Also train stays on the track. The car loaded does not work well.
All in all pretty nice inexpensive train set for a grandma to keep at her house for when the grandkids visit. I did want to purchase one that you can control off and on holding the controler in your hands, but did not want to spend over $100.00.

Jakks has targeted the 5-12 year old segment who are too old for Thomas and Geo Trax, but too young for real model railroading. The trains are quite realistic for a "toy" train.
Some adult help is probably needed for children 4 to 6: coupling the cars is a bit tricky, and the track must be connected properly or the train will de-rail. The play mat is not available at other stores or in other sets. It is a medium-weight vinyl folded into a square for packaging. It will need some time to get the wrinkles out.
All and all, this is a durable and very fun train set.

I got this toy as a gift for my 8-year-old son for Christmas. It was an instant hit! He spends hours in his room configuing the tracks, trees, lights, trains, etc. It includes plenty of track for him to arrange. Most importantly, it has switches so he can switch the trains from one track to another, just like a real train! The pieces are sort of cheaply made, so if you have a boy who is really tough on his toys, this probably won't last long. I think this is a perfect starter train set for a kid just getting interested in model trains. If his interest in trains continues, we will consider a more formal Lionel model train set.

Horrible! As the coomenter before me stated- just horrible. Trains fall off the tracks all the time, the tracks are too light, in short: cheap garbage.
Think twice before you buy it. Or even better- don't buy it. It ruined the X-mass morning for my kid.

I used the two products that I purchased with my
Christmas Village. By combining the two, I have made the tracks go around the entire village. The tracks go around a hill, through a tunnel, and over the bridge. Your product would let me put a train with my village. A HO scale train set and tracks would not.

We bought this for our 3 yr old - we know it's not for his age, but he's ok with it. It's cheap - so don't expect a Lionel! Yet, it serves its purpose. It keeps him content for hours. Sometimes the train comes off the track - but it's not a big deal. In all, for a young child who's not ready for a high-end train set yet really loves trains - this is perfect!

horrible. train cars ridiculous to connect disconnect constantly. train goes about 4 seconds until it falls off track. track annoying to put together it has to be just so before they click together. plastic is cheap. the car lift, loader makes no sense at all flimsy to use. skip it pay a bit more and get something sturdy that will last. avoid the disappointed child experience.
