I'll start by saying that my son loves this seat, he is much more comfortable in it than in his infant seat, BUT...
My mom purchased this seat to use in her car since using my son's infant seat without the base was very difficult. I was never able to get it installed correctly in her car with the LATCH belt, but with a towel under it, had no problems using her locking seatbelt. He has now nearly outgrown his infant seat, and we are using it in our van until we can afford the one we really want, and I just spent nearly two hours trying to install it. It is finally in and secure, with the LATCH belts, since we can't use the seatbelt as it would block access to the backseat for the other kids. I have installed dozens of carseats over the last 10 years, and almost never have troubles doing so. I can do it quickly and correctly. But this seat was enough to make me cry. Now that it is in the van, I hope to not EVER have to remove it until we can buy our seat of choice!!!

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
