We only have one car, a 1993 Jeep Wrangler YJ. It's not exactly the most roomy of cars on the inside, in fact the back seat is really quite small. We initially had a Graco Snug Ride which fit perfectly, but our daughter needed an upgrade (she's over the hundredth percentile height wise). We looked EVERYWHERE comparing the size of seats to find one that would fit, and finally I read that a car seat inspector for NYS also had the same car as we did and he used this car seat. I was shocked that it fit. Rear facing, with the seat fully reclined, it still fit. As others mentioned not being able to tighten it properly, the key is to get your knee on it and push it down to tighten it. Ours doesn't move at all. Another thing, I had to install it once in another car using the middle seat belt that you can manually adjust...I just tightened or loosened it until it looked right, then I looped it through the car seat to attach. It took a few attempts but I finally got it. I will say though that initially the seat IS hard to install...it took my husband an hour and forty five minutes to figure it out. Next time he had to install it....not even a minute.
i have to say that I really wish my seat was as comfy as my daughter's. It's super comfy and she falls right asleep. My only complaint is the latch part of the buckle. It works perfectly, but it's positioned right underneath my daughter's butt and I have to reach under her leg to pull it out. But considering the safety of the seat I don't think it much of an issue.

My husband and I spent endless hours looking at car seats and reviews. We chose this car seat because it had wonderful reviews and even the store employees gushed about loving it for their own little ones. I can not say how it would be in the long run or in use but I will say that it was a pain to deal with. To rear face the seat for the first 20 pounds the seat needs to be in a recline that is almost impossible to make happen. We have a smaller class SUV (Masda CX5) and could only fit the seat in the back if the front seat was as far forward and leaning as possible making the front seat unusable. I have no idea how people use this seat for rear facing and we returned the product to find a better fit.

I love this seat. It's easy to clean and tear down and putting back together is a breeze. No straps to mess with behind the seat to adjust strap tightness. Had a bit of difficulty getting it to sit correctly in my van but after a well placed towel it at just right. Straps in right with both latches and belt. My son loves it. Seems very comfortable. Padding is not to soft but just right compared to some of the more cardboard feeling ones.

Comments about Safety 1st Alpha Elite 65 Convertible Car Seat - Black:

We ordered this for our final seat for out 1 year old. He seems comfortable in it. It was too large to fit rear facing in out Kia Forte, so we have him facing forward in it. It is Easy to install, and the instructions stay with the seat base while in use so they don't get lost. Its easy to adjust the shoulder straps, and everything comes all set up and ready to go. I haven't had a reason to wash the cover yet, so I don't know about any difficulty removing it.
The arm rests are a little tedious to move up and down. You have to pull them out and twist them up or down, which is a little difficult with the covers on them.
The seat cover matches our car upholstery perfectly, but I wish it came in a lighter color. The seat will get warm while in the car all the time in the Summer.

Comments about Safety 1st Alpha Elite 65 Convertible Car Seat - Black:

We have two of these car seats for my son, one in each car, and are planning on buying 2 more for our daughter who is just about grown out of her carrier. I think the "difficulty with installing" just takes practice and also depends on the type of car and how much room you have to manuever in it. If you are new to installing car seats, I would recommend you take it to a certified car seat installation place, and have them show you how to do it. All car seats install basically the same, and yes, getting your weight on it is key.

As far as once it is in, adjusting for height is a snap with the tabs at the top. Also, to Chelsea in NY... the buckle at the crotch does adjust as well... you just need to make the strap longer, which is super simple to do... check your manual to see how.

Obviously I can't speak from personal experience, but my son seems very comfortable in it. I have never had to take the cover off, so cannot comment on that. If I remember correctly though, most car seat covers are spot-clean only. Careful about washing yours, as it may void your warranty.

I can see where it could be a problem rear-facing and not having enough room for the front seat. When my son was little and rear-facing, he was in the middle of the back seat and so the car seat fit between the two front seats. Now that we have two kids, my daughter will have to be behind one of the front seats. I have a little plymouth neon, so we shall see how that goes. For a small car, I have been surprised before with it's roominess. I will have to post a follow-up...
