Lego train track is pretty standard. There is not much to say about it other than if you get into Lego trains, you will need more of it. Generally, it snaps together easily and stays together pretty well. My complaint with this specific set is all of the flexible pieces. These pieces come in handy to make some final connections to maximize track space or if you have a complex track setup with switches. If you put too many of these together in a row, the track is wavy (looks silly for a train fan; kids think its funny however). You don't need all the flexible pieces this set provides. Two more regular straight pieces and a reduction in flexible pieces would be great. One other note: Some people have mentioned trains slow down on these flexible tracks. We have not noticed that. What we have noticed is that the trains are louder when the roll over these tracks compared to the normal straight and curve tracks.

I was out to buy myself some new tracks for my ever expanding railway, but instead of finding the well loved straight and curve track pack, I find this new pack. Upon closer inspection of the box, I wasnt too disappointed, as it looked to be a cheaper way to obtain a few flexi tracks without having to buy a huge pile of them. But that was before I realised they had stopped selling the original straight and curve pack. WHY? First off, I would much rather have 8 curves than 4 track pieces worth of flexi track. Flexi is useful sometimes, but no-one wants mountains of it. It looks ugly as anything when used in large amounts in conjunction with normal track, and now in order to get more straights you have to buy tons of flexi track. And now the pack is more expensive? and you get less? What? But--- before I go on to criticise any longer, I'd still like to thank the lego designers or employees who at least care about the "trains" department. Thanks for trying to do something anyway. Anyway lego, the thing is, there are a lot of afols into the trains, and we would like a tad more variety. Please? How about re-introducing the parrallel crossover? Or the cross-track? Why don't you just sell the tracks individually like the 9v system did? 16 straights in one box, 16 curves in another box, and 48 pieces of flexi in another box? Or at least sell this new pack in conjunction with the old straight and curve mixed pack? The problem here is that basic track (straights), of which many are needed, are being sold COMBINED with more specialised tracks (flexi). Flexi is useful sometimes, but in comparison we need more basic track, and every time we buy this expansion pack, we pay more, get less, and wind up with more flexi track than we need! (Also note that to buy more curves we now have no other option besides buying switches for a measly 4 curves, or purchasing a whole new train set...) SO- overall this pack isn't terribly bad, but the fact that lego stopped selling the crucial straight and curve pack is. Lego could fix the problem buy continuing to sell this in conjunction with the straight and curve expansion, or even go better by selling each type of track individually, and introducing some new track pieces like crossovers or cross tracks. Thanks in advance, lego. -Legotrainfanatic

There is a reason why these tracks get bad reviews

By moosebrick

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

Though the concept is good that these tracks should be more versatile, this tracks fail at the basic level. First minor complaint is that these tracks are louder than regular curved tracks. Second the major complaint about these tracks is that there is a slight rise between these tracks and the straight tracks so unless the train is running at a high speed sometimes the train can get stuck on the track which is annoying. So unless you are planning to run your train at the high speed all the time, stay away from these tracks. Too bad Lego only sell the curved tracks with the switch track. I would not want to buy those as you get only 4 curved tracks.

They do a decent job.

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

These flex tracks work great around curves where you don't necessarily need a ninety degree curve that regular four curved tracks give you. (sometimes you may need more of a curve or less depending on your set up) My major complaint would be that the flex track are ugly and do not match the original track. Maybe in future updates work on ways to make the flex track resemble more of the original track?

Good problem solver

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

I have bought several boxes of these to build on my Power Functions train tracks. Before buying my first box, I found myself having difficulty completing a track as anything more than just a circle or an oval. I love these flexible tracks because they allow you to create a track to YOUR vision and actually be able to complete it even when it's offset. I had the problem where I would try to straighten my tracks after a desired turn was made but then the straight pieces wouldn't be aligned and there wasn't enough room to put in a curve to try and fix the problem. I found myself having to remove pieces - causing me to completely redo my track from how I wanted it - in order to fix the problem. I bought my first box of these and they quickly proved to be the perfect solution to my problem. Occasionally, I still have to remove a single section of track but the flexible track allows me to create the same desired piece that I removed with the added ability to fix the problem - such as misalignment - that caused me to remove the orignal piece in the first place. I love the literal and figurative flexibility provided by this set and highly recommend it to anyone who uses any Power Functions railroad set. The more you have, the more versitility you have when builiding your tracks.

You'll have to buy a lot of these

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

To make a functional track, you'll need your train kit, and a lot of extra tracks. I bought 2 of these, and 2 switching tracks with the passenger train, and that was the bare minimum to make a figure 8. Also, the train won't ascend or descend a bridge (unlike the Duplo train). Honestly, I'd just stick to the Duplo train which is better in every way, especially in value. My kids still play with that over this setup.

The track works as good as the others. It is nice to have some extra straight pieces for my track and some flexible ones that I can use to help line up the tracks a little better.

Why do people give this set such a bad review?

By Beanie6352

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

This is a very useful set, the flex track is awesome because it not only flexes side to side but also because you can make shorter pieces of track meaning that you can conect places in your track that would not normally work.

These train tracks are a must have when creating a realistic model train experience . Purchased for my son who has a lego city passenger train but wanted to extend the track in a confined space to add the lego city cargo train. easy to put together in a couple snaps . This is the second purchase of this product! Durable creative investment
