Product Description

CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.

Make your train tracks flexible! Add LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499) to your train track system to connect tracks around obstacles and awkward shapes. Make your trains go even farther! Includes 8 straight tracks and 16 flexible tracks. Tracks do not conduct electricity and therefore are not compatible with LEGO 9v Trains.

To be able to understand why LEGO has been successful for so long, just look to the name. LEGO originally got its name from founder Ole Kirk Christiansen who combed the Danish words "Leg Got" which means "play well". He later realized that LEGO in Latin translates to "I put together." The LEGO set became a standard of creative play for children worldwide, unlocking the creativity to build vehicles, buildings, cities and more. LEGO currently produces about 20 billion LEGO bricks a year and has sold over 400 billion LEGOs in their history -- enough for every person on the planet to have over 60 LEGOs each!

Lego train track is pretty standard. There is not much to say about it other than if you get into Lego trains, you will need more of it. Generally, it snaps together easily and stays together pretty well. My complaint with this specific set is all of the flexible pieces. These pieces come in handy to make some final connections to maximize track space or if you have a complex track setup with switches. If you put too many of these together in a row, the track is wavy (looks silly for a train fan; kids think its funny however). You don't need all the flexible pieces this set provides. Two more regular straight pieces and a reduction in flexible pieces would be great. One other note: Some people have mentioned trains slow down on these flexible tracks. We have not noticed that. What we have noticed is that the trains are louder when the roll over these tracks compared to the normal straight and curve tracks.

I was out to buy myself some new tracks for my ever expanding railway, but instead of finding the well loved straight and curve track pack, I find this new pack. Upon closer inspection of the box, I wasnt too disappointed, as it looked to be a cheaper way to obtain a few flexi tracks without having to buy a huge pile of them. But that was before I realised they had stopped selling the original straight and curve pack. WHY? First off, I would much rather have 8 curves than 4 track pieces worth of flexi track. Flexi is useful sometimes, but no-one wants mountains of it. It looks ugly as anything when used in large amounts in conjunction with normal track, and now in order to get more straights you have to buy tons of flexi track. And now the pack is more expensive? and you get less? What? But--- before I go on to criticise any longer, I'd still like to thank the lego designers or employees who at least care about the "trains" department. Thanks for trying to do something anyway. Anyway lego, the thing is, there are a lot of afols into the trains, and we would like a tad more variety. Please? How about re-introducing the parrallel crossover? Or the cross-track? Why don't you just sell the tracks individually like the 9v system did? 16 straights in one box, 16 curves in another box, and 48 pieces of flexi in another box? Or at least sell this new pack in conjunction with the old straight and curve mixed pack? The problem here is that basic track (straights), of which many are needed, are being sold COMBINED with more specialised tracks (flexi). Flexi is useful sometimes, but in comparison we need more basic track, and every time we buy this expansion pack, we pay more, get less, and wind up with more flexi track than we need! (Also note that to buy more curves we now have no other option besides buying switches for a measly 4 curves, or purchasing a whole new train set...) SO- overall this pack isn't terribly bad, but the fact that lego stopped selling the crucial straight and curve pack is. Lego could fix the problem buy continuing to sell this in conjunction with the straight and curve expansion, or even go better by selling each type of track individually, and introducing some new track pieces like crossovers or cross tracks. Thanks in advance, lego. -Legotrainfanatic

Great way to add twists and turns to a layout. The flexible track lets you combine normal straights and curves that don't quite connect otherwise. My train travels on the flexible track segments very smoothly.

Flex track do serve a purpose

      By jodawill

      from Galveston

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

Important note: Flex track only works well when attached to baseplates. For my current display, my straight tracks are 4 studs away from the side of the baseplate. That doesn't leave enough room for me to fit a tunnel on one baseplate. So I needed to change the track offset just for that portion of the layout. I tried using curves, but two connected curves are only 31 studs long, and I needed them to be 32 studs long. My solution was to use these flex track pieces to change the offset to 7 studs. Using 2x2 and 1x2 jumper plates, I was able to keep the flex tracks from moving while connected to a baseplate. The number of flex track pieces included in this set was the exact number I needed for each side of the tunnel. Yes, flex track is loud, but when used properly, it doesn't cause derailments, noticeable slowdowns, or anything like that. It's definitely not a suitable replacement for straight or curved tracks, but that's not what they were made for. I would even argue that they should never be used at their full radius. The only thing I don't like about this set is that you can't buy the straight tracks without buying flex tracks. Flex track is never used in large quantities, so it would be frustrating if I had to buy tons of these sets to accumulate straight tracks. If the two types of track were sold separately, I would give each a 5 star review. PS â€" Lego, please make RC x-crosses.

Good addition to your Cargo or Pass Train

      By BigKidBrickFanatic

      from Lansing

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

Adds a fair amount of track to your existing train set. The flexible tracks are nice for the option of straight or curved depending on what you need, however they don't ride as smooth as the rigid track unless they are perfectly aligned (difficult). Overall, nice expansion pack. Pricey, but not unlike most Lego products you get what you pay for; high quality, long lasting product for decades of fun.

Electric trains get stuck on the Flex Track

      By retsamOGEL

      from Undisclosed

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

I see where LEGO is going in offering Flex Track. Though the intentions are good the unintended outcome has been not so good. I have seen on many occasions when using an electric (remote enabled) train if you are going at slow speeds or come to a stop over the Flex Track the train will get stuck. This is frustrating thus resulting in me not using Flex Track at all. Flex Tracks make building tracks harder. When using the standard curve track it helps guide our little ones to meet back to the where they started building. With Flex Track it is sometime more difficult to make a complete track. I propose this kit be changed to a combination of a few Flex Track and in its place bring back the Standard Curve track. The flex track is great for those master builds of creative bends but for the novice or beginner its not a good idea. LEGO, please bring back the Standard Curve track. Cheers

      Essential to extend railway

      By kiwibrox

      from Petersfield

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

I have bought two of these and am considering the need for more. The straight track is much more useful than the short flex segments but the flex segments are very useful to lengthen curved sections or when joining two loops to even out inconsistencies. I haven't noticed loss of traction when trains hit the flex segments but noise level does increase significantly. Please Lego, can you produce packs of just straight track, it would be a top seller I'm sure.

        All bad

        By cnaumann

        from Huntsville

Comments about LEGO City Flexible Train Tracks (7499):

The flex track is terrible. It looks bad, and the trains do not run well over it. The LEGO train system need more curve options, but this product is pretty much unusable. The value is bad because this package is the only way to purchase the very useful straight tracks.
