First I'd like to say that the IPOD Touch 4G was my FIRST ever MP3 player and I've been using iOS forever. These are MY opinions about the device. so please don't bash my review. Thanks! I just bought this device and I've been playing with it all day. At first I wasn't sure if it was worth the price, but after a while I decided to give it a try. The Device itself: All I can say is WOW! I never expected this SGP to be this nice. A lot of people have been giving negative feedback about this thing, and I have no idea why. I'll lay out the Pros and Cons just to give you guys a summery. But anyway, the device is not heavy at all, it's a pretty good size for my pocket(5" Version), and it's not that thick either. Surprisingly the screen looks amazing, even though it's a WVGA (800 x 480) Resolution- it still looks clear and crisp(expected from Samsung). The touch screen is also very responsive, just like the IPOD Touch 4G. Camera is pretty good for a 3.2 mega pixel with flash. Pictures are clear, a little better outdoors than indoors. It has 720p Recording and all that good stuff, basically just like the Ipod Touch 4G. It has microSD which rocks! The devices white plastic cover has a pretty nice feel to it, although it feels kind of cheap- not terribly cheap, but it could have been A lot better. Not a huge issue though. The capacitive buttons seem responsive(The international SGP has a dedicated button, US Version doesn't) as well. Battery: I didn't have any problems charging this thing. When I got it out of the box it was almost out of juice, so I plugged it in and it took about an hour to get full battery. I read some other reviews where guys were saying it takes a very long time to charge- well mine doesn't take that long. The battery lasts quite a while, as I said I've been using it all day. it's at about 50% battery life when I started typing this review. Interface/Android/Apps: Awesome. Skype video calls are working ok- a bit buggy and it has some echo in the voices, but it should be fixed sooner or later. The android market works like a charm, no lag at all. I downloaded a few apps like engadget app, weather widgets, ect. downloading apps are smooth as well. I haven't really had a chance to download games and all of the Samsung apps. I'm sure they run smooth, but I'll update the review when I do get a chance. Movies/Videos look sharp and beautiful on this 5" screen(never had a device this big before). Audio/Music is clear and sounds great. Samsung galaxy player VS Ipod Touch 4G: Well to put it this way, it's up to the person. me personally... I would go for the galaxy because of the expandable storage space(microSD),the bigger screen, Flash player in browsers, support for basically ALL video formats(Drag and Drop. WOOT!), no iTunes to waste my time. although, iPod doesn't feel cheap like the SGP, which I still think is not a big deal. The sound a a bit better on the galaxy player, plus you can set up the audio the way you want it. Ipod has a better screen, hands down. It's sharper then the SGP even though Samsung did a good job with the way it looks, since it's only a WVGA (800 x 480) Resolution. PROS: - Huge screen. - Runs the latest Adobe Flash Player. - Runs the latest Android(2.3.5, most likely up-gradable to Ice Cream Sandwich since Android devices running 2.3 are going to able to). Quote from Engadget posted Oct 19th 2011 12:04AM (Samsung and Google's Ice Cream Sandwich event) "Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior." - MicroSD for more space. - GPS. - Adroid Market. - Support for most video formats(no conversion needed). - 3.2 MP Camera(Hey! it's pretty good for a PMP). CONS: - hardware is not really that great, I haven't dropped it yet(Hope I never do!!). But I would suggest getting a protective case. - No SuperClear AMOLED screen(Awwww... it still looks amazing though). - 1Ghz processor(Not an issue for me, although people would prefer dual core). - A little thick- not as slim as the iPod touch, but it will do. - Battery charging it not as fast as I'm used to. Since I've been using the iPod touch for so long, I'm use to the speed of charging with it. - Only 8 gigabytes of storage when it SHOULD be 16.(Thank god for microSD). - 328MB of ram. Conclusion: Over all, I love this PMP- I've been watching it since February and I finally got my dirty hands on it. Should you buy this device you ask? It's up to you. I jumped from my ipod 4G to this, so yeah. it depends on the person! I'm not a fan boy, I just want a PMP that works for ME. I don't care what people say about something when I haven't even given it a try yet.

For the most part, this player is acceptable. It actually would be a very good device had Samsung not dropped the ball so badly in a few critical areas. 1 - This is the MOST egregious: The amount of RAM is pitifully low. The device should have had at least twice as much if not 3x as much ram. This causes the device to run slow and even lock up. A really stupid and unforgivable design decision. 2 - Processor speed is only slightly underpowered. 20-40% more power would have been better. However, the processing power it has is sufficient if you do not want to play arcade games. 3 - There should have been an option to install apps onto the internal USB memory as well as the external. If you install too many apps onto the 2g of internal memory, you have no alternative but to move them to the external memory; huge design flaw. 4 - There seems to be a problem with the USB connection port. I have owned my Galaxy for a little less than a month and already, I have to wiggle the cord to get the thing to charge. This does not bode well. I fear that this type of problem will only worsen until it will not take a charge, thus rendering the thing useless. Because of the large screen, it uses a lot of energy and thus requires charging often if you are using it to watch video or have the screen on for extended periods. Not that the battery is insufficient really, just needs to be charged often and with a poorly built USB port that seems like it will wear out quickly, this will happen faster due to the increased charging frequency. All in all, it is kind of sad that they were not able to see these short falls before it went into production because had these simple issues been taken care of, this would have been an awesome player.

The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 has nice features including front and back cameras, speakers, an awesome big screen, and touch buttons. The cameras don't have very good quality but for me the screen made up for it. I really love the big screen and it isn't too big and the product fits nicely in your hand. I have a problem that sometimes it just randomly restarts itself when i am in the middle of doing something, or glitches so I have to restart it. The touch buttons glitch sometimes and I have to keep touching them for anything to happen. Some games make it run really slow and freeze. I have had this for a year and the battery life is still really good, it takes a long time for it to run out of battery but I keep it at the lowest brightness but this is still pretty bright. I think it should go a little darker and also sometimes it randomly gets brighter and I have to go to Settings and change it. sometimes when i press the button to turn the screen on it doesn't turn on. I am someone who can deal with all the glitches and freezes but if you are not one of those people, you might want to reconsider getting this product, otherwise you might get frustrated a lot with it. I have dropped it multiple times on tile and on the road and it has never gotten a cracked screen and doesn't have any scratches either which i find impressive.

This is an alright product given Samsung's track record. Samsung offers much better products than this one. I only say this because of the bottleneck in the Player. The RAM keeps this product from being a good product. If you run too many things on it (ie. music and a low graphical game), the system crashes one of the two because it overloads the RAM. The processor runs fairly well and it can run most graphically intensive apps (given enough time to load). But this is not a high end product by any means. If you're looking for a quality product, keep going down the line of samsung's lineup. They offer much better products than this one for a slightly higher price.

Purchased this for a xmas present. It has been used literally only twice since December 2012. Reason? Well, the slowness of the screen, takes to long to load apps, (which are only a few)(7) the sound quality isn't great at all. Even with headphones. I just pulled it out of the box the other day and charged it, and now it wont even come on. Has been charging all day. I even went to another outlet thinking maybe something happened to that outlet. Just very disappointed/ Didn't get the warranty from best buy but so I don't know if it could be fixed at all... :(

I have had my player since November (about 8 months) and now it is frozen. It froze while I was browsing through my pictures and so I turned it off to restart it. Then I turned it back on however exactly 3 seconds later, I shut back down. I tried multiple times to try to turn it on but It never responded. I was able to get it into system recovery and I tried rebooting it but got no response. I REBOOTED ABOUT 100 TIMES, NO JOKE but it would just pull up a white screen and then show the "samsung" logo and then go back to recovery. I EVEN TRIED WIPING THE DATA AND GOING BACK TO FACTORY RESET BUT EVEN THAT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! Samsung definitely needs to fix their system and I am very disappointed with this product. I had many irreplaceable photos and videos on there and there is no way to get them back. My friend has also had many issues with the Samsung Galaxay sIII. I will NEVER reccommend this to anyone. apparently Best BUy has discontinued this product also because of it's horrible performance.

Comments about Samsung 1010404 1010404 Samsung Galaxy Player 5 inch:

I chose this Player over an iPod touch 5th Gen. Yeah. Its good. First of all, this thing is about the most sturdy and durable device you will ever own. i accidentally dropped it from the banister in my house and it dropped 15 or so feet flat on the screen. but when I checked for damage i couldn't even find so much as a scratch. so if your clumsy, get this. another thing is the speakers. they are LOUD. i planned on getting a speaker system for my music but when I turned it too the full volume its just as loud and clear. the only downside to this feature is that the speakers are on the back, so you have to set it on it's screen for the full effect, but the screen is pretty much unscratchable so this isn't a problem. The screen is HUGE and despite what you might think this fits perfectly in any pocket. and just a note to samsung, if your going to put a wrist strap on the thing, don't put it on the top left corner. please. on to the software. i was kind of disappointed when i found out that i couldn't update my operating system to the latest version, so some apps on the google play store are not compatible with this device. sorry, but i was really sad when i couldn't download Tiny Tower onto my brand new Samsung Galaxy Player. also, this device lags quite a lot. But with a five inch screen, you pretty much have a pocket sized tablet thats great for watching Netflix and YouTube. Overall, this Product is Awesome and I would recommend it to anyone who is reading this. you. get this. Pros: huge screen pocketable loud speakers sd card compatible bright screen Cons: Can't update operating system Wrist strap is in the top left corner (Why???) Some apps not compatible
