Comments about Solutions by Kids R Us Twin Platform Bed - Cherry:

The Solutions by Kids R' Us Twin Platform Bed in Cherry is an excellent bed...aside from the price. Personally I thought the bed was a bit expensive based on the type of wood used to make the bed. I think its some kind of particle board or combination. All the pieces seem very sturdy but are not chip resistant. It is pretty easy to take off some of the finishing but the whole piece of wood will remain intact. When the bed arrived I was shocked at the fact that there were TWO HUGE boxes both of which were extremely heavy. It took me over 45 minutes just to open the box, unwrap all of the material inside covering the wood, and remove all of the styrofoam protecting everything. The boxes were really nasty looking but inside everything remained intact. I began with opening box 1 and took everything inside. When I finally took all of box 1's pieces up to my son's room I took a look at the directions only to discover that immediately I would need box 2's pieces as well! So that took another 45 minutes or so to deal with that box and another several minutes to bring the pieces inside and then up to my son's room. Keep in mind these are heavy pieces. Also, I will forewarn others that the pieces are EXTREMELY DUSTY so if you are sensitive to dust, then you should get a mask, a Swiffer duster and/or some help. The instructions are not that great for the most part. The diagrams are only somewhat useful but a few times I found myself stuck and taking several minutes to figure out which direction or side was being referenced. Although each piece is labeled so you can't screw up with that, and the diagram's pictures are properly labeled as well, you will find yourself wondering at times which side of the wood is being referenced to. It's okay though. I only made one minor mistake and that was towards the end of putting everything together. It took me 5 DAYS to put this bed together. Although the directions say you need TWO PEOPLE (and you will need two people at some points in this), one person can do most of the work. You will also NEED PLENTY OF WORKSPACE. This means clear out all of your kid's toys and/or furniture because you will need the space. Eventually I got everything put together and I must say the bed is much better looking than I expected. I love the size of the bed and all of the storage corners. You have two options on where to put the side storage so you need to make a decision in the beginning of which side you will like it. This is where I made my mistake. Although it wasn't tragic, it just took a few minutes to correct the problem and taking out the screws and what not is a pain. You will notice if you have to remove something because you didn't put it on properly that there will be a noticeable "ouchy" in the wood. The company supplied some cherry wood colored stickers but they appear fake against the wood. There were only about 6? provided so you have to make sure you know where you want those stickers if you want to use them. You can not cover up each and every screw or cam lock. That brings me to my biggest complaint: the cam locks....ugh. Those were brutal and took the biggest amount of time to work with.

Anyway, despite the setbacks, the amount of time to put everything together and what not, the bed is really worth it. I would suggest though only to get this bed if you don't plan on moving anywhere for awhile. It is hard to move around as it is bulky and heavy and I would be fearful of any person or mover taking apart the bed for transportation purposes. :)

A few other things: the height is PERFECT for any young child. However, I would be careful around the corners of the bed as one will forget they are there and when one gets up from the bed or is busy bouncing around, one will be in for a slight ouchy. The weight limit is one reason I picked out this bed because although my children are still young I have to wonder about the what-ifs. I want their bed to be able to accommodate any weight changes. Also, I think the bed will be perfect for a visiting guest to rest on but for older folks it may be a bit hard to stand up and sit down on. Some assistance may be required for that if they don't mind. I took 10 months (seriously!!!) deciding on what kind of bed to get for my son and what kind of bed to get for my daughter. I went back and forth between my "final" decisions because everything on the market seemed really nice. I looked at bunk beds (which I really do oppose to having in my home), loft beds of teen size and young child size (I figured my children will just jump off the bed and have too much fun with it instead of sleeping or napping or will fall off at some point--I can't judge by a picture on how high the side railings are), loft beds with staircases (same issues as with the loft beds), ultimate beds (you know, with the slides and tents and what not), basic platform beds (*yawn*, then why don't I just have them sleep on the floor), and everything in between. I really did not want to have to keep on buying beds every few years. I have a toddler and a preschooler....why would I want a kiddie bed if they won't stay young forever? I really do think the platform bed will last my son well into his college years and beyond (if he choses) as long as good care is taken of the bed and one is careful not to really ding it up. :)

I hope my review helps many of you decide whether or not to get the bed. Since I did not see any reviews for this bed previously I guess I'm the first one!
