I used a double electric Ameda pump while my daughter and I were in the hospital. She was in an incubator for a while so I had to pump. When discharged, the nurses told me to just keep the manual pump that was included with the electric since they didn't rent pumps and I guess my insurance was already billed for it anyway. When I got home to try it out, I was pleasantly surprised. I got just as much milk as the electric in the same amount of time. Of course, it's not a double like the electric but I like being able to have one hand free. Follow the instructions- start with fast and short pumps, and then go into longer slower pumps. I'm very happy with this manual pump

In a bind, it will work, but not useful when trying to keep up with full meals for your child. I'm a working mom and I had to ditch the Ameda electric pump given to me by my insurance and the Ameda hand pump and splurge and by the Medela electric pump in order to produce enough to sustain my child. The Ameda products unfortunately just don't cut it. As far as hand pumps go, this exhausts your hand. In order to get a full 3-4 oz from each breast like the Medela will produce, you'd have to work very hard, exhaust yourself, and take a lot of time with this product. But if you just need to take a little off the top or don't have a means to use the electric pump (even though they have battery packs) then I guess this will get the job done, but I would not suggest this as your main means of pumping. You'll never be able to keep up with your child's needs.

Useful in a pinch

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:

This item is a little difficult to snap together and take apart for cleaning. It is also very tiring to use (as any handpump would be) however it is great to have around in a pinch. I love it for car trips because it is easy to use without having to use a car adapter and set up all the cords and tubes for my electric pump. I also find that I can better imitate my baby's ducking patterns, and I tend to get more milk than I do with the electric.

I bought this to replace my older model hand pump. I find it works just as well as the electric one and better than the old model hand pump!

      LOVED THIS!!

      By GLM7

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:

I got this pump as a gift from the hospital when my first child was born. I had to go to work 6 weeks later and I was pouting because I REALLY wanted an $200 electric pump. I had not tried this pump, yet, at all, and thought it wouldn't be as good as what I wanted. I didn't have a choice, so I used this, and loved it! When my mom's dog ate part of it, I had to replace it right away. I used it when my twin girls were born 15 months later. For a break, sometimes I would nurse one girl on one side, and pump the other side in a matter of a few minutes, and my husband would feed the other girl. Easy to carry, easy to clean, easy to use, and it worked effectively and quickly. I wouldn't have wanted to mess with an expensive electric pump after using this!!

      Don't wast your money

I revived this pump through my insurance, and figured it must be goodsince it has decent reviews rightjQuery18208491556507069618_1441198195735? WRONG! The first month it was okay, then the suction wore out. I don't know how that happens. I plugged it into wall rather than batteries, I purchased new replacement pieces nothing. This pump completely decreased my milk supply. Next pregnancy i will invest in a more expensive one... Price wise it may put a dent in your pocket, but it will be worth it!

      Ok for very limited use

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:

While in the hospital after the birth of my NICU son, I received this manual pump. Luckily, I also got to use the hospital grade pump. The manual pump is fine for relieving engorgement or for once in awhile use. It is small and could be very easily transported. It doesn't require batteries or a power source. If you need to pump once a day or infrequent use, this would be fine. If you need more than that, I'd recommend a stronger powered pump.

      Necessary but totally uncomfortable

      By jamie0815

      from Sacramento, CA, United States

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:

I hate this pump. The design is minimalistic and allows you to pump when you really need to without many extra parts. The design though is very uncomfortable. I tried to use this pump when I was without my electric pump and using this cramped up my hand and I was unable to effectively extract milk. Instead I had to resort to hand expression of milk and wait to get home to my electric pump.

This did the job for a quick pump.

      By Erin

      from Charlottesville, VA, United States

Comments about Ameda 1020191 Ameda Manual Breast Pump:

Although I mainly relied on an electronic breast pump for pumping at work, this worked well for a quick pump when I didn't feel like lugging my parts. I was able to get a comparable amount of milk with this manual pump, and the squeeze feature worked well.

I use this pump at night or when I'm out and my breasts are aching. It's not as efficient as an electric pump but it gives me the relieve I need. Usually takes 15 min to get 2 oz of milk.
