Just like everyone else has said, the cars do not stay on the track. (notice in the video they have of building the track.. it only shows the cars running for just a sec)

Very cheep plastic.

Only plus thing I can say is the son had fun watching dad build the track.

Also the cars eat up the batteries like crazy, 20 mins if your luckly.. also they get very hot, as I guess they are being drained so fast.

Even if you are die hard Sonic fans like me and the boy.. stay away from this item!!

Bought this for our son as a Christmas present. He and his daddy spent all morning getting it together and when it was finally time to race the boy was SO excited. That lasted for about two seconds.

The cars (Sonic and Knuckles) are way, way too powerful for the track. They won't go around it, they drive over the lip, over the plastic barriers meant to line the track- it's impossible to use this toy the way they intended until the batteries are very very close to dead (which is only about an hour, straight out of the package).

My son loves Sonic the Hedgehog, but this doesn't hold his interest. The cars drain batteries too fast and they won't drive on the track. Period. We'd burned through 8 triple A batteries before Christmas dinner; the kid hasn't played with it since that day. So so disappointing. Don't people TEST these toys before they market them?

I normally never take the time to write reviews because honestly I don't really have time to write them. However, I had to review this horrible toy. We gave this to my 7 year old for his birthday. He spent all day building the track only to discover that one of the two cars didn't work at all and the car that did work would not run properly on the track. This track is obviously totally designed wrong. The car moves a few inches then gets stuck against the side wall of the track. In order for it to make an entire loop, you would have to get it unstuck every few inches. Not fun at all! Don't waste your money! This toy will be going back.

We got all the stickers on and the whole track put together and the cars will NOT stay on the track. All in all a very disappointing toy, so we took it apart and returned to ToysRus.

When the folks over at ERECTOR (or MECCANO as it's known elsewhere in the world) approached me about checking out their new line of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG products for possible inclusion in my 2012 Holiday Gift Guide on my personal website, The Rock Father, I was excited. What was even more exciting was that they sent us the top-of-the-line offering from their collection, the "Sonic & Knuckles Chemical Plant Racing Tracks," which is a Toys "R" Us Exclusive here in the 'States. While we received the set and prepped it for review in early November, it didn't make the cut for my gift guide.

With 165+ Pieces, this ERECTOR set poses an impressive and time-consuming task right out of the box. Combining two of my oldest daughter's favorite activities - "building" and "cars" - I figured this would be a great way to spend an afternoon as the infant of the house enjoyed a nap. The building process itself was enjoyable, albeit lengthy. We started with assembling Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles the Echidna (both from the popular world of SEGA games) along with their motorized vehicles.

This battery-powered duo is FAST, which is something I'd expect from the speed-laced world of Sonic the Hedgehog. On their own, these vehicles were speeding across the laminate floor of our kitchen/toy-testing facility here at Rock Father HQ upon completion. The vehicles themselves scored well with the already octane-obsessed little Addie.

Assembly of the track was slightly daunting, as Addie lost interest right around the time where the numerous decals where ready to be applied. That was a Daddy-project, and one I wasn't too fond of. Truth be told, even as a child, I wasn't a big fan of applying stickers and decals, and that hasn't really changed in 36 years. All built and ready to go, Addie was ready to race!

THE FATAL FLAW: The cars absolutely do not stay on the track at all. The outer "lip" around the edges is so small that the powerful cars just jump right over it and go flying in every possible direction. There are a few flimsy inserts made of clear plastic that seem intended to guide the cars around the corners, but they just fail completely. But here's the real kicker - the problem appears to be only with the sets in the U.S. market! The same set marketed in the U.K. features tall inserts made of yellow plastic that keep the cars on the track pretty well, as evidenced in a video from UK-based Kids Top Toy Reviews. Even more interesting, the official product video from ERECTOR never actually shows the cars making a turn. In fairness, I took screenshots from both videos and sent the images to ERECTOR's press representative back in November prior to writing this review.

I received no explanation for the difference in sets, but was told that my report was the first they'd heard of the "cars flying off the track," though as the sets have gotten out there, I'm definitely not the only one now.

An additional warning is that those with long hair might want to watch out for those fast-moving wheels (though that goes for any motorized vehicle)...

THE BOTTOM LINE: This is an expensive toy that I would be angered to have paid money for. Even if it was cheap, you can't have a "Racing Set" on which you can't actually race. While the time spent building it with my daughter was enjoyable, we could've just cracked out the LEGOs for some afternoon fun. Toy makers need to be held accountable for what they're putting out there for consumers to spend their hard-earned money on, and this is an example of a set that is completely unacceptable. Frustrated parents and disappointed kids are likely the end result for those who happen to acquire a SONIC & KNUCKLES CHEMICAL PLANT RACING TRACK.

This toy is awful. It took forever to put together, and it wasn't even FUN to do. Then once together, the little cars do not stay on the track. Such a disappointment! Going back to TRU to return it today.

After spending two hour assembling the track an stickers. Cars wouldn't stay on track even with bumper guards in place. Makes me mad to spend $50 plus dollars on a product and it doesn't even work. Very disappointed cars just get hung up or fall off.

Unfortunately, the cars have an alarming tendency to go flying off the track when they hit corners. It looks like the edges of the track are just low enough that when the car hits them, its easy enough for the wheels to go right up and over rather than continuing to steer around the track.
There are 20 plastic pieces that slot into the exterior walls that I guess serve the purpose of trying to keep the cars on the track, but even that's no guarantee. We were able to get the cars to stay on the track for a couple of laps at a time, but that's no guarantee

If I only could give it negative stars!!! After building the track per specifications, these motorized cars won't even stay on the track!! The side walls were made too low!! Shame on the Erector company for selling this piece of junk, knowingly!
