My children love the Hot Dots alphabet cards. I am a pediatric occupational therapist and it is a great activity to work on grasping, visual discrimination, letter recognition, form constancy, and visual motor integration skills. For parents it is a great activity to work on independent learning and play, as the pen provides feedback as to whether or not the chosen answer is correct. My kids love when it lights up and makes a sound. If you want to do this activity in a quiet area, you can even turn the sound off and just see red or green lights to notify the child if the chosen answer is correct. The only thing I would change would be to have an option to only provide positive feedback (lights and sound) when the chosen answer is correct versus providing lights and sound for incorrect answers as well. I believe this would encourage increased attention to the task in a more desperate attempt to receive the auditory and visual feedback on the first attempt. Overall, I would recommend this product!

I would love to say that we like this product. The idea is perfect and easy to understand the product BUT there's a major flaw.
The product isn't accurate at all times. Even if you know the correct answer (adult) and use the pen as precise as possible you still get the error message. When retrying several times I finally get a correct answer (green light). I bought this for my special needs child but havn't given it to him since it's too complicated to hold the pen exactly correct to get a reading and when you get the reading it's not certain it's the correct answer.
For an older child, or a child that will understand instructions it will possible be a great product. Unfortunately not for us, it's a pity because I really think it would work great if the quality or accuracy was higher.

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots Jr. Cards - The Alphabet:

My 5-1/2 year old found this fun at first, but then realized it was too easy for her. I think it would have been great for her up to 5 years old. The box says its for ages 3-6, but I think that's stretching it. Although, I guess it depends on the child, how many years of preschool he/she had, and how much the parent works with the child at home.

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots Jr. Cards - The Alphabet:

These hot dots cards are a wonderful way to learn the alphabet. This product is a great educational tool to use at home or in a PreK classroom. The set creates many useful teaching moments that benefit children who are learning the alphabet. My children love using the hot dots pens with different hot dots sets and the Alphabet Cards are a great addition to our collection. My younger child (4) was given simple directions in the beginning and was able to work independently using this set to practice the alphabet. The directions were simple enough that when he needed help, my older child (6) could read it to him and give him assistance. My children already knew their alphabet when we tried this product, but they still enjoyed using it to practice their knowledge. Children who don't know the alphabet or letter sounds yet would benefit most from the learning experience if parents did the set alongside them. I would recommend this product. *I was provided this product in exchange for an honest review.*

I think these cards are great for my 4.5yo. She understands patterns so it's great for her to know those answers, and the sequence sides give her something new to work on. I am intending to buy her another set of cards for her birthday. It's not something she uses every day, but she does enjoy them. They are portable (she even fits the pen in the box). It's great to have a different medium for learning other than computers, shows, and worksheets.

These patterning cards are great for ages 3-5. (You need to buy the pen separately though!) My 4 1/2 yr old enjoys doing school with these and will do 5 at a sitting. Great, colorful product!

Comments about Educational Insights Hot Dots Jr. Cards - The Alphabet:

This is one of my favorite Hot Dots sets. Although I wish it came with the required Hot Dots pen, this Hot Dots Jr. patterns and sequencing is an excellent learning tool. 36 coated cardstock cards arrived in an hard cardboard box with velcro closure and fabric carrying handle for long term use and abuse by the suggested pre-k aged children. Each double sided card comes with a sequencing or pattern equation on top and a choice of 3 possible answers on the bottom. Next to each possible solution there is a black dot. When the Hot Dots pen (NOT included) is placed on the dot, it will tell the child if they have the correct or incorrect answer. This set is excellent for reinforcing both pattern and sequencing concepts and I would recommend it to both parents and therapists. The 3yo enjoyed the pens feedback when using although some cards were a bit difficult for him. The 6yo enjoyed it a lot and was able to answer most cards with each. I even used the sequencing cards with my 8yo to help with comprehension and storytelling. An excellent, well made educational tool.
I received this item for review but all opinions are my own.

Great interactive learning toy for my 4 year old son. He has the cat books and loved doing the cards this time around. I love that the cat from the books works with the cards as well as the dog works with the cat books. He enjoyed the cards and I felt he was challenged as well. The carrying case was great to travel with and the pen fit in the box so everything stayed together nicely.
