This bottle has been great! With my second born, once she got a taste of a bottle, she didn't want to go back to the breast. So for my third born, I wanted to find a better system. This bottle has been the answer. It does not give that instant gratification of other brands. Still makes the baby work for the milk a little, as in nursing. I am so happy that Medela released this nipple. My ONLY negative is that the top is a little difficult to get snapped on. But a very minor detail that I can overlook. Especially since my son is 7 months and has had no problem switching from breast to bottle...and back!

I have been exclusively breastfeeding and I purchased this item because I will be returning to work. I wanted something that would mimic the breast so my LO could make an easy transition between having a bottle at daycare and breastfeeding at home, and so I wouldn't be getting chewed in the process!

The calma DOES only produce milk when my LO sucked, but it was too much! The milk kept flowing out of her mouth and made it very difficult for her to eat. :(

Comments about Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipple:

Ordered this nipple because baby choked using other slow flow nipples. Still having some issues but is better. Nipple does leak when bottle is first turned upside down but once it stops doesn't leak again. Didn't like the packaging because there was a sticky dot used on nipple base and didn't come off easily. Overall works better for us than slow flow nipples.

my husband and i have bought 3 of these nipples. our daughter was having problems latching, but i didnt want to give up. she just turned a month old and had to switch to a different bottle. all of them started leaking out the side so more was ending up on us then in her. packaging says to replace every 3 months. really disappointed.

Comments about Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipple:

This product was suggested to me by my lactation consult with pretty good reviews from other moms, so I didn't mind spending the over priced cost for these nipples. At first they seemed to work well with the switch from breast to bottle but then they started to leak, wasting the milk. I was so upset I brought 4, seeing how all four leaked. The baby would get to much milk even with pace feeding. I would not recommend the Calma. She does just fine on the slow flow nipple. Don't waste your money.

We were using Avent bottles but they kept leaking so we switched to the Calma with the Medela bottles. No leaks, fewer bottles to wash because we can just feed out of the bottles that I pump into and baby seems to like them!

Comments about Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipple:

A lactation consultant recommended this nipple to us for our one week old son. He was tongue-tied when he was born and continued to struggle to nurse even after being clipped. We used a bottle with this nipple for his feedings for two days. Afterwards, we tried breastfeeding again and he had no problem latching and sucking. Although he was frustrated by this nipple at first, as it's much harder to use than a regular bottle nipple, I give it credit for eventually teaching him to nurse. We've been breastfeeding exclusively for a week now with no problems.

Comments about Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipple:

I've tried avent, gumdrop, nuk, breastflow, and today bought the medela calma THE MOST EXPENSIVE NIPPLE EVER. But, it was worth it.
She actually latched on and took the nipple. She drank 2.5 ounces of expressed breast milk. I put her on the breast after, and she ate a lil but clearly was not hungry. No nipple confusion either.
We initially wanted to do no bottles but I decided to slowly return to work so I wanted to be prepared. We had a hard time transitioning to bottle from breast. This nipple worked like a charm.
PLEASE make sure breast feeding is well established before attempting to introduce bottles (if you plan to breast feed still).
As a bonus, this nipple attaches to the smaller diameter medela pumping tubes and bottles. I will even use it with my kiinde pumping bags and adapter keeping the milk air free.

Comments about Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipple:

Thought this nipple would be perfect to use with the medela bottles so that I could feed my baby directly from the bottle that I use with the medela pump. He had a hard time latching on to it even though the description says "switching from bottle to breast has never been easier". turns out my 3 month old prefers the regular medela slow flow nipple better than this expensive one. I will keep trying to use it to see if he'll take this nipple, but I thought the point was to make it easier to switch from breastfeeding to bottle feeding. Maybe he needs more practice with this nipple?

Children are unable to get a good seal around the nipple and milk leaks out the sides of their lips

Comments about Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipple:

My lactation nurse suggested I buy this bottle after having a combination of problems with breastfeeding. Aside from the fact that my milk was not coming in due to a unplanned c-section, my son was not latching correctly because of an asymmetry in his head and jaw from being stuck in the birth canal too long. Breastfeeding was becoming a nightmare and I needed a break to heal. The nurse explained to me that this particular nipple would force my little one to learn a correct latch because milk would not flow if his lips were not sealed around it. By using this bottle in-between feeding sessions, I was allowed to enough time to heal while helping to correct my son's latch issues. We successfully breastfed for his first year! My son did figure out after a while how to draw milk down too quickly from this bottle, but we corrected the problem by pulling the bottle a little more frequently and burping to prevent him from eating too much too quickly. Considering this was the only issue, which no negative pressure bottle can avoid, I am pleased with the results and how I was able to successfully breastfeed because of this product.

My daughter is breastfed, but I was having to supplement with formula. I had Dr. Brown's bottles, but she was getting confused between the breast and the bottle and would choke. I bought these bottles because the child has to actually latch on to the nipple and suckle the milk like she would with her mother. Also, I went back to work and was not nursing until I picked her up at night-I wanted her to continue to want to nurse. She has done great with them and still loves to nurse from me! The only down side is she was very gassy. My husband and I dealt with her tummy issues until we thought she was ready for a regular bottle. We have since switched back to Dr. Brown's because of her gassiness. I would recommend using these nipples if you're still trying to establish nursing with your baby, but must supplement or pump while at work.
