The first Graco Infant Swing was created in 1953. Graco Metal Products originally manufactured car parts, but when one of the founders left the company to pursue other interests, the remaining partner, Robert Cone, decided he wanted to try and manufacture something new, he just didn't know what.

That's when David Saint, an engineer, presented Cone with a revolutionary new idea, a wind-up infant swing. Saint, a father of 9 children, was inspired by a friend's wife who soothed her tired baby by swinging in a backyard glider swing.

The Graco Swyngomatic went on to sell millions, and Graco was official out of the car parts business and into the baby product business. Today, Graco continues to design and develop innovative childcare and baby products including the imonitor Digital Baby Monitor and the compact folding Contempo Highchair. This swing does an amazing job of soothing my newborn when all else fails. It has a good selection of music and nature sounds, my favorite being the birds. The volume is adjustable. The only drawbacks I've experienced so far are that the vibration control unit vibrates quite a lot itself which is noisy and I haven't found a way to effectively pad it to make it silent, or at least much less noisy. Fortunately it does not seem to bother my baby so I haven't subtracted any stars for the overall rating. Also, I wish the teddy bear mobile moved.

Do NOT Buy

Do not buy this product. I purchased this product but the soothing vibration unit was so loud - you could hear the battery shaking inside (not soothing at all). Called customer service and as others stated it would be 6 weeks for a new part so I returned it to the store and got a new one thinking this was just a fluke but NO still a loud terrible noise.

My son sits in the swing everyday and loves it! I love that I can detach the rocker and move it into the kitchen or bathroom. I also love that I can plug it in. The vibration only works on batteries but I rarely use the vibration when he is swinging. Our vibration box was also noisey, as other comments stated but we put some tape over the batteries and it helped alot. My swing also clicks as some stated but my previous swings did the same so that doesn't bother me.

I've been using this swing for two months now. I use it probably once a day for one to two hours. There are two main reasons I really hate the swing.

Reason #1: It is a big waste of money. It barely swings...perhaps I've used it too much. But, I feel like a swing that is this expensive should be built for this kind of use and should last longer.

Reason #2:It has made an awful clicking noise from day one. My son doesn't seem to mind, but it drives me crazy.

Other thoughts: Initially I was interested in it because I thought I would use it as a rocker and a swing. I thought I would save some money. However, it is bulky so I've never used it for anything but a swing. Plus it doesn't work so no money saved.

I do like the seat, but that might be about all that I like.

I love the general functionality of this swing with the conversion to rocker. The design of the rocker with the high handle is great for trying to multitask around a room. Does not require bending over and bouncing or rocking as a normal bouncer would. Love the addition option to plug the swing in. This was not an option I had 8 years ago when I had my first child. No longer constantly buying batteries! The only downfall, as posted by another customer, is the vibrating battery box on the rocker. I still kept the swing because I and my son enjoy it but had to support the battery box by wedging something into the swing for support. Would still recommend this product but for the price paid, Graco should really get this addressed. Also, the mobile does not move as some others do with lights and sounds as well.

This is our second swing since my son out grew the last one, I'm not sure if I got a defective product or what but it makes the loudest clicking sound when on, and the motor died less then a month after purchasing- Don't waste your money.

Motor stopped after a month of using it

I bought this swing in the last week of january with my income tax for my 3 month old son, come february the motor stopped working. i called graco to get another motor replacement and they told me it would be 4-6 weeks before id recieve one. I'm not happy since you can only use the swing til baby can sit up i'm guessing by the time i get a new motor he'll be sitting up on his own. Don't buy this swing it looks neat but it's not worth it to use for only a month.
