We place this gate at the top of very long staircase in my son's apt. He has a very active toddler. It comes with a template to guide you in securing gate to wall. We are not handy, so we used box picture as installation guide. That really helped. It is very sturdy. It looks clean. Once you get the hang of opening it, it's a snap. If you install it wrong it might seem flimsy. The trick is to get it in the beam or place anchors correctly. This gate immediately gave us peace of mind. We are very happy with the purchase. We are buying another to place in our house for dogs.

We have a bi-level house with stairs right when you walk in the door. So having a gate at the top of the stairs was a must. It took us a long time to find a gate that was 1- wide enough (44 inch wide walkway), 2- able to have the top anchors for the gate at a different width than the bottom anchors (We have a tall baseboard so it needed to be able to attach there at the bottom and be able to be wider at the top to attach to the wall) 3- with a little boy learning to bounce and climb we wanted it to be strong enough to withstand whatever he could do.
This gate worked well in all three ways :-) As other reviews have mentioned the assembly instructions are lacking, but they do provide a template for each side so you can mark where you should screw the holes. It is a lot easier if you use a level during this project to 1- make sure that the templates are level vertically and 2- that the gate is level before you anchor it.
So far it is working out well and the lock is super easy to operate one handed. The only downside with the gate itself is that if you let it go, it will swing open with a bang, so we are being careful to catch it so it does not mark up the wall too badly.

We spent a loooong time researching baby gates before purchasing three of these for our split level home. We love that there is no bar across the floor to trip on. Love how easy it is to open the gate. Love that it's wall-mounted, which means it never tips over. And most of all, love that we can leave the four small wall-mount pieces installed but easily lift the gate off to store it when we have company or don't want the gate in place. My sister bought this exact gate for her home more than 5 years ago - her kids are grown, but they can still put up the gate in a matter of seconds when the nieces and nephews visit. We look forward to being able to use these (on and off) for years to come! It took a while for my husband to install and properly adjust things, but what's one Saturday spent installing for years of very easy use?

Sturdy gate. We placed this gate at the top of our stairs and are comforatable with knowing that our little toddler will be safe from falling down.

This is the best stairway gate I've found! There is no bottom trip bar and it's very study. Easy to install and affordable.

I bought this gate for my stairway that leads to our basement. The gate is flimsy, hard to close, The bolts come off all the time, we are constantly having to resize it because the bolts come loose. I seriously hate this gate, next time I will be investing in a better quality gate.

I love the gate - I just wish it came with wall anchors since the side with the hinge had to go into the wall and not a banister.

This was ok to install. A little bit of a pain to get it level vertically and horizontally, but once installed it's not going anywhere. It is relatively easy to open with one hand and I love the fact that it doesn't have a bar going across the bottom to take up stair space. I have another "stairway usable" gate for the baby's room that is pressure mounted and has a bar across the bottom, which is fine as a doorway threshold, but definitely too hard to work with at the top and bottom of our stairs. (Our stairs are pretty shallow to begin with so the bar would take up stepping space).

The only complaint is that it is a bit noisy to open and close. The mechanism that keeps it secure requires lifting the gate up and out of a slot which of course requires the whole gate to move up and down slightly even at the hinge side. This lifting and resettling when locking is noisy and with a baby who is near the gate and a light sleeper it has woken him up a few times.

The gate is advertised to expand to a 45.5" width. I bought this to accommodate a 45" width but can't get the thing past 44". The more you expand it, the less stable it is. It expands by unscrewing the spindles on each of the four corners. The less thread you leave in the holes, the more flimsy it becomes so I wouldn't recommend this gate for larger openings.
