I am an adult collector and have to limit myself to what sets I can get. I only buy the ones I really like or feel are done very well. I splurged on the Jabba Throne Room set a couple years back and therefore "needed" the Rancor Pit set. Although I don't really play with LEGO anymore, I enjoy assembling and displaying them. Even my wife thinks they're "adorable" (her word). LEGO manages to take something as ugly as the Rancor and make it, well, cute. This is a great set.

Pros: The fact this set fits together with Jabba's Throne Room set is really cool. The Rancor is one of the cutest "ugly" things LEGO has ever made and the other mini-figures are well chosen. The overall height is very nice, making it almost to scale, which has been an issue I've had with LEGO Star Wars since the beginning. But size, playability, connectivity and choice of figures is terrific.

Cons: I'll preface this by saying most of my cons are more unfulfilled wishes rather than cons. That being said, I did think this set was rather expensive, but I feel ALL LEGO sets are really expensive.

Now to the wishes. I wish there had been some sort of chute that connected the trapdoor in Jabba's Throne room to this set (as seen in the movie). It would also be nice to have a complete floor so you can place the figures inside and move the set around without the figures dropping out. I have the same issue with the Hoth Echo Base set (Set 7879). But that's just me being picky.

I also wish LEGO would make more sets that were desgined to fit together to make a bigger set. It would be a more economical way to purchase what can otherwise be unaffordable. Think of a Death Star set you could buy in ten different portions and then connect them to form a complete Death Star. Most of us can't afford to plunk $300-400 down all at once for the whole thing.

This is basically the basement for a JAVA the HUT play set. The box is large and colorful. Look carefully. It does state this product is part of another set displayed on the box. My grandsons love legos so I will continue to buy them. It's a shame they are so pricey. All children should be able to enjoy legos. I know many that want them but family does not have the resources to purchase them.

Comments about LEGO Star Wars Rancor Pit (75005):

There's nothing at all special about this set, other than the Minifigs and Rancor. It's only a little less than $12 worth of brick if ordered direct from LEGO for the same parts. It SURE isn't special that good ole TrU is trying to sell these at $20 over rrp. If it hadn't been for a clearance price match for less than I could buy the Minifigures for on the secondary market it would have rotted on the shelf.

My son has been asking for this set for months. It was sold out in many stores and found it online from Toys R Us and had it delivered to my local store just in time for Christmas. My 5 year old son (who's advanced with Legos) had fun putting this together and loves this set very much. It was a great addition to his star wars collection. Rancor has moving parts and he can bring it to life which is exciting for him. The gate in the pit moves up and down, and overall the whole set has lots of features and can be played with for hours.

My son uses it to play starwars with his sister. The product was not so labor intensive that he did not enjoy putting it together. For the price I was surprised it wasn't a little bit bigger, but it was still fun for him.
