After 3 kids I've learned a few things about diaper pails. First, none of them contain the smell if they hold "too many" diapers. Sure, I use to complain about having to change the trash bag so often - but the fact is, too much poop in ANY can is going to stink!Second - all plastic pails will eventually absorb the poop smell, unless you prevent that.Third - your 13gallon trash bags bought in bulk from Costco/Sam's Club, will also not help contain the smell because the plastic is thinner.SO - we are now using this pail virtually smell free with our 2 1/2 yr old twin boys (whose poops reek!), and this is what we do:A) Use Brand name Odor block 13 gallon Trash BagsB) Put each poop diaper inside a scented diaper disposal bag (from Babies R Us) and tie before placing in canC) When the can is full - Don't shove them down - change the bag! Less is more - if you get my drift.

We decided to upgrade from the plain garbage can we were using before I had my second child. The thing is, newborn baby poop isn't so bad, but an almost two year old can easily stink up a room. We briefly tried the diaper genie, but we had bad luck with it, the clamshell design kept breaking, Anyway, we decided to give the champ a try and we were happy with it for a little while, but after a month or so, it started to really smell when we opened it to put diapers in it. And no matter what we did (odor blocking bags, bagging each diaper, soaking it in bleach...) It continued to get worse every time we opened it. To make matters worse, both kids loved to grab the handle, move it up and down, and sometimes even put in a toy to see it "magically" disappear. The opening is not covered with a bag, it's not sanitary, and the kids loved to reach their little hands in trying to figure out how it worked. The stench got to the point where we would put the diapers in and quickly leave the room before it had a chance to spread. We had to take diapers outside or to the kitchen to throw away at night because the smell was so awful we couldn't trap the kids in the room with it. Changing the bag was gagging. I had mastered holding my breath long enough to do it, but even bringing the bag through the house to place in the outside trash would stink up everything. Eventually, the smell from the Champ was absorbed into the room, and it took a while to clear out after we got rid of it. Bottom line, it does work as long as you don't open it, but I have two kids in diapers, so it doesn't work for me.

About Me Parent of Two or More Children
LOVE this product! I had one of these when my daughter was born 9 years ago. It takes regular trash bags and it doesn't twist the diaper in a knot. It's small and hides in the corner of my nursery well.

The Diaper Champ is awesome! I love that you don't have to buy special bags for it like you would for some other products. We use 8-gallon vanilla scented trash bags, but you could even use plastic grocery bags if you like. I love that the stink is kept in by the "diaper airlock." We had one for our first child that we used for almost 3 years. We chose to get rid of that one instead of storing it because it was beginning to smell and the plastic ring had a little bit of mold on it. It was definitely worth it so we just bought another one for our second child.
I would purchase this again

This product is great because you can use regular garbage bags. No need to buy special bags!
Does the trick

I decided to go with this diaper pail when everyone I spoke to kept telling me not to waste my money on a Diaper Genie. With this Diaper Champ you can use your own garbage bags (not some special expensive bag that only goes with that garbage), and you are able to close it so you don't see or smell the dirty diaper.
Doesn't contain smell; broke around 1 year

We bought this at first because we liked the idea of using regular trash bags instead having to buy special bags. However, it didn't seem to contain smell very well. Also, after about 11 months of use, the handle portion became "stuck" and stopped gliding, so the top portion became completely unusable. We now have to open the entire container to put a diaper in. I am buying a different diaper pail.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Perfect Diaper Pail
from Buffalo, NY
This diaper pail is easy to use and I like that you can use any trash bag. You don't have to buy specific overpriced inserts like the competitor diaper pails.
Takes generic garbage bags

It was really important to me that if I had a diaper pail, I would not be forced to use brand specific bags/inserts. This diaper pail fit the bill perfectly.I use kitchen trash bags from our local club store and I no longer smell the dirty diapers.
Yes, I'd buy this product again.

I love that regular trash bags can be used with it instead of the more expensive brands of bags.
