This toy encourages little girls (or boys if they want to play too) to explore principles of engineering in the clever disguise of adorable colors and animal characters. They actually create the experience as they play, by threading a long ribbon in and out of moving pieces to design various resulting machines. Ingenious!! I want to get one for every girl I know. :) If you have a smart, strong little girl in your life, BUY HER THIS TOY. You may find yourself up playing with it, long after she's gone to bed....

This game or toy attempts to sell itself as different way for "Girls Blox" to be built. It talks about engineering in the description. Unfortunately, this game HAS THE WORST 'ENGINEERING' DESIGN of any toy I've dealt with. Once you use the blox more than once (literally) they slip off off the blocks and make this a mess to even try to put the simplest of cars or other designs together.

This game is fun for the first two builds and then it becomes the bottom of the toy box as it just doesn't work. It's built on putting axles, or basically plastic sticks, into wheels, which are cheap plastic thread wraps. The problem is that they are meant to stick into the wheels, but they don't. So you then have four wheels attached to axles that are too short.

You can't play with this toy when it's built and it makes kids frustrated trying to get the next piece in without the others falling out.

It is good in concept, but fails miserably in execution. This was a gift that will be attempted to be returned anywhere I can find. I won't even donate this game as it is that bad.

Picture legos that don't stick together and BAM, you've got Goldie Blox.

Comments about GoldieBlox and the Spinning Machine:

My four year old loves stories and lego/blocks. Having a fun story to follow and build with has been perfect for her. The more she does it, the easier it becomes for her to follow the pictures and do it herself. She likes that at the end of the story there is more "machines" to build. Maybe older kids are bored easily but my daughter will be 4 in 2 months and it holds her attention daily.

My daughter wasn't able to do this without help and all the kits falls apart easily and you really can't play with it much. She was done with it after the first time and hasn't shown interest in it anymore. I think if it didn't fall apart after she picked it up she might want to continue playing with it...maybe. Im not impressed with it either so I can't blame her for being bored with it.

Bought one because one of the email alias in office was talking about this for "engineering for girls" Daughter was 5. She followed the book, did the thing once, see how to make things spinned, and that is it. We have some difficulty in making things stayed on and I have to help her a few times.

I think the problem of this toy is this is not versatile as LEGO. With LEGO Friends, I can still see her play her bricks once a while. She can build cars, anythings. This toy she is limited to pulling ribbons.

Comments about GoldieBlox and the Spinning Machine:

I was so excited about purchasing what I thought would be the perfect gift for my 5 year old daughter's birthday. After she unwrapped this gift, it sat in the corner for the next week. Later the next week she decided to open the gift, played with it for 1-2 hrs and never opened the box again. I've kept it on the coffee table for many weeks since hoping she would show interest in playing with it again ... But still no interest. I had intentions of returning this $45 gift, but my other daughter decided to write on the box so I wasn't able to.

My son can't get enough of the Goldiblox toys. They inspire creativity and design and teach basic building skills. Even after finishing the basic story and design, he spends hours creating his own designs and uses the characters to create his own stories. Such a unique and fun toy! Very sturdy manufacturing as well.

Lots of fun, and I love the concept! I love playing around with it and trying new things, veering off of the suggested projects in the book. It's the toy I wish I had when I was a kid. I plan to buy all the GoldieBlox sets so I can build my Goldie empire! :-) I just wish the ribbon were a bit longer! (But that's okay... I just bought another ribbon and added some velcro to it!)

This toy actually requires THINKING if you want to get the most out of it! My three year old loves it. We play together and I love watching her eyes when she figures out a new way to do something. The animals and crank don't always stay put, but that is my only complaint. My three year old loves interacting through the animal characters too. You can follow the book, and you can build on your own and discover how things work. I have learned a thing or two myself! I fully support this product and everything it stands for! Thank you GoldieBlox!! PS Nacho, her dog was even rescued from the pound. Gotta love that!
