Product Description

Looking for a gate that works all over the house? The Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Gate has a unique 2-in-1 design which allows it to be used in either of two modes. You decide which mode best fits your needs: mount it at the top of the stairs for maximum security as a hardware swing gate or place it in your doorway as a pressure mount security gate that's easy to move out of the way during periods when it isn't needed. In either mode, the gate helps keep your baby away from out-of-bound areas. It also features a SecureTech indicator that lets you know that the gate is securely locked in place. For easy operation, the gate also features a complete-control top handle that lets you lock, release, and adjust as needed.

Features

  • Help restrict access to out-of-bound areas
  • 2-in-1 design: pressure security or hardware swing
  • For use at top of stairs, bottom of stairs or between rooms
  • Top handle locks, releases, and adjusts
  • Lock/unlock SecureTech indicator shows when gate is locked

Comments about Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Security Gate:

Overall, gate is not easy to use. My 7 and 9 year olds could not open or close it so it was open all the time - thus useless in my home.
            - Changing the length is very difficult.
            - A good amount of force is needed to close so this is not a one handed operation. (with or without mount hardware)
            - Opening with one hand is possible and ok if you use the mount hardware.
            - Hopefully your walls are even. One of my doorways is not perfect so one of the "feet" or "pressure points" is loose. The individual "feet" cannot be adjusted in length like some other brands.

            Poor Choice of a Gate

            By Busy Dad

            from Chicago, IL

Comments about Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Security Gate:

This is a frustrating gate to work with. When I set up the gate at home for a stairway, it is such a hassle to get through it. The latch doesn't allow for easy opening and closing of the gate.

The product was already constructed, and fit well against the inside of the door frame. It does the job. Would have been nice to use a $5 off $25 coupon to lower it down to $20 bucks, but it's worth the $25 we paid for it.

Comments about Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Security Gate:

The instructions for use are inside the gate; however, you need the instructions to figure out how to open the gate. The YouTube instructions are just as lacking. No way to know you have to push the button in at the same time you pull up on the handle. Luckily I didn't break the gate or my house trying to figure it out.

First use so no comments on its durability.

I would only recommend to a friend if I could be there to help install it.

I don't why there are so many bad reviews bc it was easy to set up, easy to use and I've had it for 4 years. I am looking for the same gate only now bc my now 4yr old broke it bc he was climbing over it and kicked the bottom out so the clip holding the bottom hinge broke, but only after at least 3yrs of pressure and a mastiff dog standing on it too. I think it held up wonderfully. And am going to get another one!

Comments about Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Security Gate:

We used this gate both pressure mounted and hinged. Hinged it works ok, but can be difficult to open. Pressure mounted, it is a huge pain to open and eventually it broke. We installed it hinged with the security cups at the top of a 2-step stairway, and even though you are supposed to have it extended so when closed the green marking shows in the safety indicator window, that made it impossible to open. So we installed with it extended to the point where the safety indicator was half red, half green. Not according to product instructions, but it's the only way you can get it to slide into the wall-mounted cups and be able to open and close it frequently. Pressure mounted, I HATE this gate. Waste of money. WAY TOO DIFFICULT to open and close. Extended enough to make the green show in the safety indicator slot means it's a huge pain to wedge it into the doorway even with the handle fully lifted. I wasn't impressed with the sturdiness either. My one year old can shake the gate and make it wobble. And then it broke and we had to throw it away. The price was attractive which is why we bought it. NOT worth the frustration, or the fact that it's broken and now I have to buy a new one.

Comments about Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Security Gate:

Gate is easy to put up, no assembly required except mounting hardware. But the release latch is so hard to pull up that it pulls the gate up so much that the hinges are eventually going to pull out of the wall. The lever makes one entire gate section slide to the left/right to free it from the mounting cups. I'm sending mine back.

Comments about Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Security Gate:

I used this because we don't have a door to protect the stairs that lead to the basement. Our basement is fully finished with a family room, bedroom and laundry area so this gate got a LOT of use in just 6 short months. It is now broken. The top lead broke and I tried to reattach it and make it safe which worked for a week more but now it is just barely holding together and snaps apart with one hearty shove.

I believe this is a problem caused by the fact that attaching it to the wall and railing on the stairs required it to be at maximum extension and since the locking requires you to push down on the center, it put a lot of pressure on the three plastic tracks. I'd advise anyone who needs a gate to open often to not get this gate.

Comments about Safety 1st Lift, Lock & Swing Security Gate:

We LOVE this gate - we have the hardware mounted in one doorway so it's easy to swing and walk through most of the time, and we can always take it out of the hardware and pressure-mount it elsewhere as needed. Wonderfully versatile. HOWEVER, when you first get the gate home, the instructions are between the panels and you don't know how to get the panels apart to get the instructions without the instructions!! I ended up having to pull the instructions to shreds, wiggle them through a hole, and then piece them back together. NOT SMART, Safety-1st! HOW TO OPEN THE GATE: Slide the button on TOP of the handle back and lift the handle until it's level with the unlock indicator. Then press the button on the side of the handle, WHILE sliding the top button over and lifting until the handle is all the way up. Now you should be able to expand the gate. Once you get it down, this is an absolutely fabulous product.
