I understand the possible frustrations about the short cord. But face it: anything longer is considered a strangulation hazard and in today's world full of law-suits no manufacturer is going to make anything with a longer cord and sell it for little children). Both of my daughters enjoyed this phone VERY much. We have several toys which have strings to be pulled around but this phone and FP's puppy toy (also a great basic/classic toy) were always their favorite. They often talked with the phone on the table in front of them, me holding the phone in front of them while playing together, when they got older they pretended to chat with friends while laying on the carpet on their tummies... they didn't seem to mind that short cord at all. I appreciated that the toy was not noisy, was very economical, didn't need any batteries, was a lot of fun for several years,

      We got this for my daughter for her first birthday. Because this was a classic toy that we played with as children, we just had to make sure that she got it too. She doesn't understand the concept of a telephone (i.e. talking on it and rotating the rotary), but she loves to pull it along. Once she's older I'm sure she'll love to "talk" on it as well.

                      The first time I saw this toy was at my doctor's office in Canada. I found it very cute and I wanted to buy one when I had a baby. We bought this phone for my son when he was 6 months old and he loved it!!! It was his favorite toy for months. He loved to dial and to hear the noise. He stopped playing with it when he was around one year old, maybe because he got some more interesting toys at his birthday party. Now I am getting a second phone to give as a gift to an one year old boy. The only thing I don't like about this toy is the fact that the colors of the eyes, the mouth...kind of disappear after a while.
