We gave this to our son for his 3rd birthday a couple of weeks ago. The first engine we ordered had a faulty switch and had to be returned, but the second one is fine. Our older son has a battery powered Thomas and they were always fighting over it. So we invested in Percy so that they could both have one. Thomas has been around for over two years and I hope Percy is just as durable. They are fun little engines and pull a pretty good load. They even run right on our carpet, so that adds versitility, and my boys run them all over the house. Before we got Thomas we baught a battery powered engine from another company and it did not last. These cost a bit, but the kids love them, and we have had good luck with them.

Percy worked great for a while and my son really enjoyed playing with it. He was so excited that he didn't have to use "boy-power" to make the train go. I think we must've left Percy on because a few hours later we found HOT Percy stuck, but his light still working. He wouldn't go anymore though. We tried changing the battery, but it didn't help. The motor must've gotten to hot and blew up. I guess this is one of those toys that would have to be put up immediately after each use. Not always easy to do!

    We bought Percy for our son who was 2 and is not 4. Trust me our son is hard on his toys! Percy has worked fine and never broken. For the most part he stays on the track. Yes, he falls off now and then, but so what. Our Son puts him back on the track! I have not had to replace the battery daily like some reviews. The engline might start to loose some power after several days, but he keeps going. This train is even holding up to our 14 month old boy! I will agree that they are over priced. Look for them onsale or buy one get one 1/2 off deals.

          We have had Percy for almost a year. We thought it broke after a couple months, however it turned out that it gets worn out or too hot. Give it a break and try again later. Our Percy still works!

              So far so good, I have percy for about one week. And it still works fine.
              The only thing is that it drives of the railes when there are sharp curves or rail conections...
              Other comments say you should buy the train with 3 weels, they will stay on the rails.
              So you better go for Thomas when buying a battery powered train.

                  I have the Thomas battery powered engine and I thought I would expand and have more than one engine running at a time, I bought battery powered percy and salty, percy died after about 5 to 10 minutes, his light would turn on but the motor would'nt go. I wish I had read the other reviews before buying this train, very dissapointing, however my Thomas I have had for 10 months is going strong and Salty is running great as well.

                            Purchased this battery powered Percy to replace a battery powered Thomas which my son used for a few months and had broken. He was so excited to get Percy... we put a battery in it right away. Percy stopped working after about 10 minutes of use. I returned it to our local Toys R' Us store for a full refund.

                                    My 3yr old son had been anxiously awaiting to get his very own Percy. He was so excited when I have it to him. After playing with it for only 10 minutes it stopped working. It doesn't stay on anymore. I tried changing the battery. But it still doesn't work. I can't believe its made so poorly!

                                    My husband and I were out xmas shopping and we thought, since my 2and a half yr old wasnt getting any of the toys yet, we would get him one of his favorite trains, Percy. He loved his friends trains that were battery operated. So we bought it. We brought it home, put a battery in it and it died within 30 minutes of him playing with it. We tried changing the battery, didnt work...it died. We're taking it back today and exchanging it for a simple wooden one. Not taking that chance again.
